Nah? He has like a billion, at most. Let's say half of it is liquid. What kind of lasting change can he effect with 500 mil? That's tons for one person but peanuts in the grand scheme of things. He can use it to support some poor people in America, for a few years until the money runs out, then it's back to the starting line. He may fund scientific research, but that's a small percentage of everything already.
You need Bill Gates' level of money to make a dent.
No one needs a billion. If all of these parasitic wanna be immortals gave even the amount they get to write off to real charity it would make real change.
The higher level problem is him endorsing people like RFKJ. Which stands by itself as a bad thing.
I'll agree that it takes more money than he individually can generate since we've had billions earmarked each administration to fix various problems.
But we've all seen how that's going.
If people like this and Opera actually wanted to help, things would be different. Instead 30 people get a car and 30 girls go missing in Africa out of her "charities"
Meanwhile this fuck sucked his underage sons blood. Probably tapped his marrow too.
Seems like 1B would fix the fact that my neighborhood doesn't have sidewalks, even though the city put it in the budget 30 years ago.
You obviously missed the part where I said it takes more money than he can generate as an individual to fix problems we've had billions earmarked for by the government. But we've seen how that spending goes.
My city spent 3.4 million to install Flock cameras, but my neighborhood still doesn't have sidewalks for our handicapped population even though it's already been appropriated.
But you're right, why would they deem themselves as being "of the people" and try to help the locals around them.
Any general "charity" has a low net difference when you compare it to things like USAID sure. But saying 1B would make no difference unless you had a microscope on it is just bullshit.
great, so a billion is given to a few towns and neighborhoods like yours. roads are fixed for X years then they’re fucked again after it returns to normal. 99.9999% of living people don’t know and don’t care and aren’t affected and you likely forget that it was done a year in and then complain about it X years after the fact. Did to have a difference? Sure. Is it something that’ll truly matter and is significant? not really.
Sidewalks, not roads. That's another story per district here.
Half of the neighborhood is handicap accessible, the other is not. I promise you it's brought up at every city council meeting here since the 90's when it was promised to us and they started the first half.
You're kind of making my point that these people and you don't care about even providing basic assistance to the populace by making claims like "you'll forget about it" or "you'll never even know"
Maybe I won't, but so many other individuals will.
Tell that to the guy on my street with no legs who fought for us. Tell him he won't notice being able to get to a store without assistance.
All the "charity" money gets slushed away to projects in some other country that never really come to fruition and the American taxpayers are out dollar after dollar while we still can't get to the bus without assistance. And then you still have to pay for the bus. Because you know capitalism.
But sure, let's keep patting these oligarchs on the back when they fuck around and find out.
We can go back to the USSR where everyone gets what they need and works as much as they can.
actually wanted to help
That's the point. They don't. This guy wants to live longer, he doesn't gaf about helping other people.
Charity as I have found is normally just another way for money laundering. If you really want it done right you have to start your own org and micromanage it. If you don't really have a passion for it, it would feel pretty shit.
Edit: I don't really understand why people like going after this guy. He's small fry in the world of billionaires and doesn't do anything malicious. He's honest about what he does and everything is open online for everyone. He's a bit creepy but I don't have to/will never talk to him.

Dog shit take.
He has fucking tons of money. Just because he can’t fix world hunger alone doesn’t mean he couldn’t make massive lasting improvements if he wanted to.
