Can I ask a few questions? Because I worked 4x10 as well at one point and it felt like I had more time to be on top of things.

Is your job a more physical demanding job or mentally demanding job?

How much do you sleep? Im usually a 6 hour person, 8 if I'm actually tired when I go to sleep lol.

Do you spend a lot of time like cooking meals for dinners and stuff? I'm more like the "throw together a sandwich and get back go my hobbies" type.

Did have a long commute? (Probably the biggie, my job was 15 minutes awaY)

So yeah my third off day was usually a week day, so I'd use that time to bulk up chores, errands, and adult responsibilities, and then the other 2 days off would be nothing but personal recreation time.

Basically, since I was someone who didn't need much sleep to feel functional, and don't care enough about food to spend a lot of time on it, I felt like I still had time to spend on my hobbies on those evenings.

Tbh my job is neither physically or mentally demanding, it's pretty chill, and I leverage that to try and run errands while on the clock

I try to get 8 hours of sleep per day. I can only do 6 hours a of sleep when necessary, but definitely not as part of a routine

I do like to cook a good dinner when I get home - takes about an hour from starting to clean up most nights if I'm keeping it simple

Commute is only 20mins

But ultimately, it sounds like we're in a similar boat. You're using that 3rd day (Friday) to catch up on chores and errands so you can have Sat/Sun available.

When I have extra time after work Mon-Fri, then I already have Sat/Sun available

However, at my last job, I also did 4x10s, and that set up was On two days, Off one day, On two more days, Off two more days. And I think I like that better - that way I never worked more than 2 days in a row, and I also never felt like things were "falling behind" during the week. Sure, I get people want 3 days off consecutive, but I find the trade-off of essentially neglecting a full week of chores feels worse

Yeah I agree, I think I would love a 2/1/2/2 kind of schedule. Personally I would love to have a weekday off again, to take care of all those things that only happen 9 to 5, without looking PTO or weekend days to them :p
