I miss these kind of stories, JMS understood the character he was writing. He properly understood the world these characters lived in and their interactions. It’s been years since any writer understood them to this level and I miss it.

his characterizations for peter and mj are perfect

Call me crazy but to me it almost feels like the writers want to do away with it completely now. They've made it clear they hate Peter and MJ being married, but also a lot of stuff now seems to almost completely neglect Ben, whether intentional or not. Which is a shame because Pete's struggle and lessons he's learned through Ben and Ben's death, and Pete's relationship with Mary Jane, are two of the best parts of the character and the story.

Because Marvel doesn’t know what good is anymore, they are acting like they are fighting off bankruptcy not realizing they are owned by Disney

reads the second-to-last panel

Awwww 🥰 … I hate One More Day

I guess the last thing Ben said to Peter makes his reasoning for saving May's life way more justified but there was absolutely no need for the marriage erasure. Mephisto could've made it so that Peter and Mj couldn't have kids or a NWH situation where Peter technically doesn't exist anymore but MJ is still allowed to know who he is.

They could've opened up some good arcs with that, like how do Pete & MJ deal with the fact that they can never have kids anymore and how that impacts their marriage, or how Peter manages to live in a world where he might be under investigation by pretty much everybody for just suddenly appearing out of nowhere with no trace of him existing before.

Just something other than erasing years of history

Strange can be a damn idiot but like many heroes, in the end he shows his worth.

So how many rules he had to break for that?

u/DJHott555 Oct 29 '22

All of them

One of my favorite Spider-Man stories ever. JMS is the GOAT.

I feel like his reaction to that was a little bit too calm, but idk how the writers were writing him during this comic

I think he was to shocked to yell or anything like that

3

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '22

Probably, I just think that a little bit of stuttering might make him seem more shocked, but I’m not a writer so that might not actually make the scene better, it’s still a really good scene though

Yeah tbh I feel the same way. Like the whole thing is very tender and sweet but Peter was just way too calm. Of all the emotional breakdowns he has had over the years, this should have been one of them

Yeah but he read the note and knew , it said you have 5 min & to spend them wisely. If he freaked out & worried Uncle Ben instead of having 5 heartwarming minutes it would be quite a waste of time

I mean, tbf, he did just experience something A LOT more crazy earlier that same day...

2

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

Ah, I guess the context is important lol

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '22

What was it

1

u/Sexy_Man798 Oct 31 '22

I recommend you read the story yourself, but if you really want to know, all I'm gonna say is that It's the same story where Peter witnessed his "last stand"

What comic is this

3

u/Sexy_Man798 Oct 31 '22

This comic is part 3 of a 3 issue story arc titled 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' lol

So basically for part 1 and 2, read issue 57 and 58 of amazing spider-man vol 2, then amazing spider-man vol 1 issue 500 for part 3

This is a good way to do it too.

A bad way? The way the celestial did the Gwen one.

Hold on a sec… got some dust in my eye or something…

Did Bully Maguire put some dirt in your eye?

So wholesome

11

u/Piper6728 Oct 30 '22

The fact that peter is happy with his life says how old this issue is

7

u/Baligong Oct 29 '22

This is why I loved the JMS and JRJR comic run for Spider-Man

Dr. Strange: Can resurrect the spirit of Uncle Ben for a five minute chat but can’t do shit about a bullet wound. Christ, I hate One More Day.

This just made me cry 😭

3

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '22

Anyone remember that comic where Peter met the five teen year old him and they teamed up?, I’m not sure if I imagined it or not

3

u/SuperiorSpiderman616 Oct 30 '22

You didn't imagine it. It is in Zdarsky's Spectacular Spider-Man series. Volume 3 I think.

3

u/fafmundo Oct 29 '22

I literally just read this comic last night

3

u/PrinceRobotVI Oct 29 '22

Ah, back when JRJR have a shit about his work.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

But he still won’t save Aunt May, causing Peter to sell his marriage to the Devil!

2

u/IreallyloveMonika Oct 30 '22

Love the Kris Deltarune cosplay Peter!

2

u/LambdaLeader Nov 03 '22

I was literally thinking the exact same thing. Nice to see a fellow Deltarune fan around these parts.

2

u/Nilk-Noff Oct 30 '22

I always imagine Ed Asner as Uncle Ben when reading him in comics and Josh Keaton as Peter

2

u/JediMasterJackal Oct 30 '22

damn dude Uncle Ben hitting HARD with the wisdom

1

u/MeMikeMonster Sep 12 '24

I only wish I could have that for my birthday present. Only instead of Uncle Ben, I just want to talk to my elementary school teacher for five minutes. I want to talk to her about how much I miss her and how much I worked hard in my life after her passing. She meant so much to me. If I could have five more minutes of having one last conversation with her, then that would be the best birthday present I could have ever asked for.

Wanted to see these panels, because I've had this thought too. My teacher role model probably passed years ago, no idea, can't find an obit - and honestly, I probably don't want to. But her name was Sister Pat. Patricia Flynn. She's responsible for much of my moral center, I think.

Oh my god I have never seen this before, it's so beautiful. And the cherry on top is the John Romita Sr. artwork

I’m really starting to resent Marvel for making Spider-Man’s life so miserable
