General Discussion Assuming Vader survived EP VI and Luke somehow convinced the New Republic not to execute him, would Leia have ever been able to reconcile with him?

Probably not. She lived her entire life in politics and knew Vader was the supervillain in the galaxy.

Luke was just some podunk kid who went on a road trip with the town kook and met his father.

There’s no basement in the Alderan!

Now that's a line I've not heard in a long time.

You don't watch your home PLANET being destroyed and then become amicable with the number 2 guy of the regime that did it.

Vader would be lucky if he ever heard her communicate to him ever again without screaming at him, trying to kill him with her bare hands.

Don't forget that Vader tortures Leia in A New Hope too. It's easy to forget because it has a quick cutaway instead of the background screams from Han in Empire Strikes Back, but IIRC the Bloodlines novel acknowledges the torture Leia went through

Even if you take away the screams, they make sure to show Han stumble back into the room and can't even stand post-torture. Whereas Leia looks like she just woke up from a nap and is striking a pose like a model the next time we see her in the cell.

Don't worry. I remember.

Your stormtrooper's looking a little short.

She’s just that much of a badass compared to Han

It was the midichlorians

one thing we dont see if what Vader must have thought, after finding out he had a daughter and realising he had tortured her earlier..

yikes.

He senses only from Luke that he has a twin sister in the fight right before he dies, never her identity though

His force ghost at the end surely knows.

“…damn that’s crazy! My bad.”

He was ready to murder his own son multiple times. I don’t think it bothered him much.

u/DjawnBrowne 5h ago

She also watches him basically massacre an entire village of civilians or indentured servants in the Obi-Wan series

Honestly ever since the prequels, every new addition to Anakin's history makes his eventual redemption in episode 6 feel flimsier and flimsier

Yet names one of her kids Anakin. (Legacy)

I’m don’t think they tortured her. I think the bot gave her a truth serum.

But i thought the books arent canon?

24

u/RaptarK 10h ago

Bloodlines was made under Disney's control, so it's part of the current canon

Number 3 (or lower) guy at the time, but yeah agree otherwise. I think Leia would (reluctantly, mostly due to respect for what Luke sees in him) sign his execution order.

7

u/penty 7h ago

In legacy she does name one of her kids Anakin.

She's forced trained. She'd be force choking him from across the galaxy every morning

45

u/Aggravating-Pattern 11h ago

Using the force to make his life borderline unbearable, disconnecting the charger cable from his suit in the middle of the night

47

u/DeyCallMeWade Grand Admiral Thrawn 11h ago

While I appreciate the sentiment, Leia wasn’t that well trained. It would be a struggle for even Luke to do that much.

Yeah people act like all is forgiven for Vader when he put himself in harms way to save his son. The man is legitimately one of the worst people in the galaxy. Hes tortured and brutally slaughtered tens of thousands by his hands alone. You can’t just have a single moment of mere consciousness and just be redeemed after being space Hitler.

Town kook: “Hello there”

u/StrohhutXD 10h ago

"I wonder if he means old Tom Kook"

11

u/ExcitingSink4272 8h ago

"I knew a Tom Nook once"

3

u/AWonderlustKing 8h ago

I did it all for Tom Nookie

He would have made it possible to completely erase the remaining Imperial forces. Luke & Leia would have benefited from his daddy's teachings dating back from the former Jedi Order, and some insider knowledge of the Sith as well.

But sure, he wouldn't have been really able to manage a living as the former genocidal maniac of the galaxy.

20

u/Luciifuge 7h ago

Also he personally tortures her, and had Han tortured.

Probably puts a damper on things

9

u/sidepart 7h ago

Ok sure, but what father among us wouldn't torture the dead beat scruffy looking nerf hearder their daughter brought home?

11

u/drquakers 10h ago

Let's not forget that Vader tortured Leia for information on the death star.

u/aelysium 6h ago

It’s implied they reconciled in the rise of Skywalker novel, as Anakin’s force ghost makes an appearance there at her bedside as she passes iirc.

She defacto did in Legends (even names a kid after him) and it’s also explored in Infinities (the ROTJ run where Vader is redeemed)

Kind of tangential to the point, but I love out-of-universe takes that establish how kooky Old Ben’s role in ANH was from a bystander perspective. An old wizard from out in the Dune Sea takes this farmboy kid to the seediest dive in town to recruit a drug smuggler and accomplice on a trip, ferrying treasonous cargo. This all also happens coincidentally when that farmboy’s parents are burned down to the bone, parents who were categorically not fans of Old Ben.

We know she came to some level of forgiveness when she named her son after him, but if he was still alive? I doubt it.

6

u/tokays 9h ago

one reason i don't care for the legends kids - Leia would never forgive the man who took her planet and parents from her and then name her child after him, wtf

3

u/ZarduHasselfrau 9h ago

Her son’s name is Ben?

9

u/Sex_E_Searcher 9h ago

Yeah, short for Benakin.

1

u/Logical-Country336 8h ago

I don’t think those are considered canon

0

u/Jon_Snow_1887 3h ago

He’s talking about legends where she has Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin.
