So right before the strikes in 2023 they were full on casting for NJO. They got pretty far along but stopped due to the strikes and all. One was for a male, POC lead, Late teens early 20s. He was a “bad boy” and there was going to be some romantic tension with a female lead around the similar age.

If they were in pre-production I don’t understand why they stopped

The strike allowed them to not rush it and make TMAG as a replacement film. They've been re-writing it since, possibly to flesh out the era and plan the other films out more.

So if there were no strikes TMAG would never have been made? I’m sorry but I just forgot the timeline of events

Mandalorian Season 4 was getting ready to film in late 2023. They were already building sets and had costumes ready before the strike. MSW even reported that a Slave 1 set was being built for the series.

When the strike ended they cancelled the season and rewrote the plotline into TMAG. If not for the strike NJO and Mando 4 would have released this year.

We also know that the strikes were one of the many reasons why Marvel pushed Blade back further in terms of development. Thunderbolts*/*The New Avengers was reworked a bit as well.

Ngl, my guess is ages affected it. The trades also revealed over at DC that The Brave and the Bold was ramping up to casting before the strikes hit, but that got pushed back because of them. Wouldn’t shock me if the primary reason for that is Robin being so young means they’ll have to go from casting to shooting really quick. Can totally see the same happening for Rey’s students here.

I mean the strikes stopped everything. I do know they want this script to be perfect, they know it needs to hit. I bet during the strikes they saw an opportunity to improve on it and took that seriously.

but what happened to those actors?

I would assume they would be looking for new ones since it is very age specific? Who knows though, I for sure do not lol.

Not saying I believe this, but Stephen Yuen was supposed to play Sentry in Thunderbolts* and had to be replaced because the strikes shifted that film’s schedule so much. Weapons had a very different cast before they recast several significant roles due to the original actors suddenly being busy. Schedules everywhere shifted because of those strikes, if NJO had to basically start the casting process over after they were resolved it would not have been the only movie for that to happen to.

I mean... they did not just reschedule the production. They started rewriting the script a few times and brought in a new writer. So it could be, that the movie changed quite a bit and maybe even the characters. I just wonder if those characters/actors they had in mind, are still in the movie.

Also a very good point, but mine still stands - they could very well have cast a handful of parts, realized the scripts weren’t working, began rewrites, and then released the actors so that they would not be beholden to a production schedule that hasn’t even been ironed out yet and not have to turn down work.

An Asian actor might be cool, Manny Jacinto as The Stranger sold it for me.

Edit: I'm Asian.

You needed to be sold on having an Asian lead?

No, I'm Asian myself and it was just nice seeing an Asian actor.
