Meta Crashes and Issues? Please post logs!

Theres a wicked guide here for getting logs for In-Home Streaming which applies to the Steam Link.

Please, please, please when posting asking for help with crashes, lag or debugging issues provide logs!

There's not a lot anyone can do in most cases unless we can actually see what's happening, and quite possibly help you out a lot quicker!

You can paste your logs up to Paste2 so it doesn't bulk things down or use the spoiler tags.

Please provide as much info as possible, anything that can help us help you.

Steam error e20

I had this issue. Solved. I have to use 1.1.1.1 whenever I use steam now to download so it won't have no internet error. But why? I used Steam normally before and now I need this. Is it because I used 1.1.1.1 and ProtonVPN before which changed my IP or DNS? (Sorry Im new to these topics).

Support Encountering the weirdest Bug with my Steam Link

Hey Everybody,

i am out of clue how to solve this.

My steamlink worked flawlessly for weeks, playing Satisfactory on my TV, with a Mouse and Keyboard connected via Bluetooth. And it just stopped working.

To be precices, I can not click with the Left and Right Mouse Button ONLY in Satisfactory. If I play it through my normal PC setupt, it works fine, only steamLink is causing this behaviour.

I have reinstalled Steam/Satisfactory and the SteamLink App. I have reconnected all devices, I have given Admin rights to Steam. NOTHING is working.

Please help a fellow SteamLink Enjoyer. I am without any further ideas how to solve this.

Discussion [Feature Request] Option to completely hide the mouse cursor in Direct Touch mode on Steam Link

Adding an option to hide the mouse cursor on Steam Link would be great, as it would make games played exclusively with a mouse feel like native touch controls.

I even tried an AutoHotkey script to hide it, but it doesn't work (it works fine in Moonlight, so I think Steam Link draws its own cursor overlay).

PD: if you know how to do it tell me pls C:

Discussion Allow Remote Play to stream only a selected monitor

Thumbnail steamcommunity.com
9 Upvotes

I'm the developer of HoloMapper, a projection mapping application on Steam. Users operate the software from one display while projecting to another. Steam Remote Play currently streams both displays, making remote operation difficult. A monitor selection option in Remote Play would greatly improve support for professional multi-monitor workflows.

For clarification, HoloMapper is a Unity application that uses two displays:

\- Display 1: Main editor and controls.

\- Display 2: Fullscreen projector output.

The actual problem:

Steam Remote Play initially streams Display 1 correctly. However, as soon as the projector output is activated on Display 2, Remote Play switches to capturing both displays side-by-side in a single stream.

This causes the editor to occupy only half of the Steam Link/Steam Deck screen, with the other half wasted on the projector output.

What we need is the ability to stream Display 1 only, while Display 2 continues operating normally on the host computer.

The newer "Primary Display While Streaming" setting doesn't resolve this behavior. We need an explicit option to select which display Remote Play captures, even when an application uses multiple displays simultaneously.

Question Periodic performance spikes when streaming, any help?

I have the Link h/w box connected straight to my PC's gigabit LAN port. I'm streaming 1080p60 with bitrate capped at 30mbps in Steam, using the Beautiful setting.

Periodically, every 1-30min, the stream will freeze for about a second and then go back to normal. Here's what that looks like in the performance overlay. As well, sometimes a popup will alert asking me to change bitrate to automatic. Here's what that looks like.

This alert box is something new, within the last few days since a recent Link update but the periodic freezing has been a thing for months, even when I was using the Link through WiFi. It doesn't matter what game I play, but recently it has been happening in Forza Horizon 6, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Onimusha Way of the Sword.

In Windows, I've disabled ICS, Energy Efficient Ethernet, and Interrupt Moderation. I'm not sure what those do exactly but someone suggested it could be an issue with my ethernet adapter's power management. None of those changes seem to improve my experience.

What could the issue be? 30mbps should be nothing to the Link's 100mbps port or my mobo's gigabit port. Otherwise my performance is great, it's just frustrating having these pauses so frequently.

Using Keyboard and Mouse with Steam Link. Works 50% of the time.

I am currently using a wireless Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse to connect to my phone which has steam link installed. I know if I get a pop up on my computer, it will disable that portion of the screen and the mouse will stop working for that area due to administrative privileges. I have a decent PC and a dual monitor setup. Majority of the time for games that I play, the keyboard works relativly fine and minimal issues.

The mouse will sometimes just refuse to work or partially work. The mouse at times the clicker disappears but still is functional, sometimes its invisible and doesnt function. The most common issue i have is that it doest register mouse clicks or will show 2 cursors moving over one another. The computer is almost always detecting my mouse movements as it will highlight games in the library and I can see the mouse moving. But I cant right click, or left click. Sometimes it works from the start, then might stop working while playing a game. Ive tried everything I could think of. Im not sure if its my pc, the dual monitor, or what. Help!

Question How do I "stream" from my PC, to my TV... gimme the run down...

With the announcement / beta release of Pyrowave, I'd like to try this out ...

I have a nice 5080 powered PC, and wrangling switching displays between it and the 83 inch 4K TV in the next room is a PITA if you need to jump up and down and wrangle keyboards and mice and controllers...

How can I stream to my TV from Steam on my PC?

I have an AppleTV, a PS5, and of course the TV, but I _really_ do not want to plug in the LG TV to the network.

I have hard line networking between all of the devices.

Is there a good Windows 11 --> AppleTV integration?

Thanks!

Edit: spelling

Support Anyone else lose audio passthrough with the new update (Build 928)?

My Steam Link auto-updated this morning, and now there is zero audio going from my Steam Link to my TV. Even before I connect to my PC, there aren't the usual boops as you move around the menu, there's no noise to indicate it's connecting, and once connected there is zero PC audio playing through my TV. I've checked all my settings and gone through all the troubleshooting steps I can find to solve this, but everything seems to be configured as it's supposed to be. Spouse is out of town, and they said they've had this issue come up with the beta build and that they'll "fix it" when they get home, but was just curious if anyone had any suggestions in the meantime.

Discussion Pyrowave is amazing

Finally tried out pyrowave today after learning you could use it in the Apple TV steam link app. I'm completely blown away. I've done a ton of game streaming over the years with varying levels of success.

Most recently, I've been very happy using Apollo/moonlight to stream my games to the tv. Latency was great and image quality was certainly "good enough." But now, i don't even need to settle for "good enough." Pyrowave is pristine.

Streaming Witcher 3 to my tv at 4k60, CRISP image, and no latency? This was a revelation. I'm very impressed with the tech.

My goal is being happy with an office PC setup streaming to my living room has been achieved. If you have similar interests and a robust home network (pyrowave uses a good chunk of bandwidth) you owe it to yourself to try it out.

Fixing recurring freezes during Wi-Fi streaming

Thumbnail
youtube.com
6 Upvotes

The video shows a TCL TV freezing roughly once every second while streaming games. This happens in both Moonlight and Steam Link.

There are plenty of threads about this issue, but finding a clear, consistent fix with explanation has been difficult. Topic 1, Topic 2, Topic 3.

Here are the suggestions I tried:

  • Switching from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi: this actually helped, but this is bad for many reasons.
  • Lowering the streaming bitrate to around 80 Mbps: 75 Mbps helped in my case while the scene was moving. However, the recurring stutters returned when the image became mostly static. With the game capped at 30 FPS, they persisted even during movement.
  • Disabling location services on the TV: this made no difference.

What fixed it for me: disable Miracast and reboot the TV. If the disabling method shown in the video does not work, you need to disable Miracast via ADB.

Possible explanation: TCL's Miracast service appears to activate background Wi-Fi Direct listening even when you aren't casting anything. My guess is that this interferes with the TV's normal Wi-Fi connection and causes periodic latency spikes. Disabling Miracast and rebooting may clear that problematic state.

Tested on a TCL Q6C running Android 14.

Question Best option for streaming to TV?

So, right now I have been using my Nvidia Shield Pro to stream Steam from the PC to my TV, but I have become increasingly displeased with this because it seems to introduce a ton of lag. I know that this is from the Shield because I also have a Series X and it doesn't have lag.

Anyways, I decided to try connecting my tablet (OnePlus Pad 2) to the TV with an HDMI adapter and that seems a lot snappier and less laggy. However, there I have the issue that the HDMI is a mirror and the aspect ratio is the one from the tablet so it has black bars on the sides.

I'm wondering what would be the best option here.

A) Replace the Shield with a different streaming box that does the job better. I don't know of any of them, so I'd be open to suggestions.

B) Figure out how to get my tablet to change the aspect ratio when using the external display.

C) Replace my phone with one that can output HDMI at 16:9 on an external display and is good for this purpose (I am replacing my phone next year, current one can't do HDMI over USB C).

D) Buy a stupid long HDMI cable and plug the computer directly into the TV.

I would be especially interested in any option that would allow me to use that new codec that is supposed to reduce latency.

Edit: So it turns out that there was something going on with how my controller was interacting with the Shield. I plugged the dongle into the PC directly and it works great now. Hot damn.

Question Steam link gamepad issue for Xbox PC games

I'm using steam link with a gamepad and all my steam games work without issue, but any game I play outside of steam always has controller issues. I've tried changing the "desktop controller" setting in steam but nothing seems to work properly. Is there some other setting I can try or is gamepad support for steam link just not great for any games outside of steam?
