Apearently like 90% of invincible from what it seems like from an outside perspective

Well, that's mostly because people underestimate the villains a lot

The villains considered "weak" in the show are ridiculous, like, Killcannon, who is a complete nobody, at his absolute weakest can blast through buildings like it's nothing, and fight on-par with Eve

The Reanimen, who Monster Girl can beat, are able to hit harder than a space laser stronger than any nuclear bomb

It's not that Invincible has a ton of anti-feats, it's that people underestimate the "weak" characters

are able to hit harder than a space laser stronger than any nuclear bomb

Was that ever said?

u/Lowlevelintellect Jul 04 '26

it's because they can hurt Omni man who tanked the space laser no problem

In fairness, that is kinda bullshit. I straight do not buy that somebody making monsters out of human bodies and spare parts could pull that off.

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 Jul 04 '26

He uses science to make them.

3

u/ReptAIien Jul 04 '26

Well there's also BS sci-fi/magic involved in there somewhere.

One thing I noticed in fiction is laser are always portrayed as weaker then anything thats solid. If lasers are the top dogs then bullets just dont exist or/and fists are still stronger sometimes.

Its a comic book. Tony Stark built a war suit in a cave. WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS.

Its completely tonally consistent in the world thats all that matters

I know what you mean, but Omni-Man doesn't get hit with the hammer or fight the re-animen in the comics.

1

u/WaterWitch5031 Jul 05 '26

I mean. No i guess he specifically doesnt but the Re-Animen do fight characters with comparable power levels and theyve just always been that strong.

I'm not questioning Nolan dura, I'm questioning weather the space later specifically was "stronger then any nuke"

12

u/Lowlevelintellect Jul 04 '26

they most definitely know Omni man can tank a nuke so they didn't want to bother launching something they knew he could survive

1

u/JWARRIOR1 Jul 04 '26

Worth noting omniman doesn’t take any visible damage from them when he fights them

11

u/RedNUGGETLORD Jul 04 '26

Hurt Nolan while the laser did jack shit

This is pretty consistent as Mark was hit with a direct nuclear explosion, no damage, but can still get fucked up by Reanimen

6

u/static_func Jul 04 '26

That’s exactly the inconsistent power scaling people talk about lol

0

u/RedNUGGETLORD Jul 05 '26

No, they are just THAT strong, but people refuse to believe it

0

u/static_func Jul 05 '26

People “refuse to believe” your fan theory because it’s stupid af

0

u/RedNUGGETLORD Jul 05 '26

How is it a fan theory when we literally see it in universe?

Reanimen do more damage than a space laser, that's it, it's been shown, it's canon

1

u/static_func Jul 05 '26

In one episode you’ll see Nolan breaking the sound barrier and in another you see him and Allen running away from aliens at like 15mph. It’s just inconsistent power scaling and you know it, don’t be an idiot

2

u/Ok-Pea9014 Jul 04 '26

I'm not questioning Nolan or Marks dura, I'm questioning weather the space later specifically was "stronger then any nuke"

The neat thing about visual media is you can show in addition to telling, which appears to be a large explosion radius, indicitive of it's power, which can be compared to other explosions to determine how it matches up!

Yeah every time people claim that Invincible struggles against "street level thugs" its actually characters who were introduced fighting Invincible and hold no larger significance for the viltrumite plot.

The idea that characters with barely any buildup or context for their power can't be that strong is even more ridiculous when you consider that Battle Beast, one of the strongest characters in the entire show, was introdcued as a random member of Machineheads miniboss squad.

12

u/Exolerate Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26

That's the one thing people always forget, these "street level thugs" were fighting one of the strongest characters in that universe. It's like if Sandman was introduced as going toe-to-toe with Sentry.

2

u/gingeregg Jul 04 '26

Thanos should have been introduced as a random kingpin thug. It would have been way funnier.

7

u/Dward917 Jul 04 '26

I feel like the BB thing was literally Kirkman just remembering that he had this character who beat up Invincible handily and decided to bring him back later.

8

u/Saymynaian Jul 04 '26

Meh, when multi Paul, who is just a bunch of guys, can hold back Invincible post training arc, there might be a powerscaling issue. It's hard to have any tension whatsoever in the fights when street level thugs can body Invincible, who then goes on to fight Viltrumites like Conquest.

These guys went on an intergalactic quest for the like three things that can hurt Viltrumites, but on the daily are fighting near Viltrumite level threats on Earth? That either means Earth has ridiculously powerful street thugs or Viltrumites aren't that strong, and both are bad for maintaining tension in battles and for suspension of disbelief.

2

u/RedNUGGETLORD Jul 04 '26

They can't hold him back, he just didn't want to kill anyone

As soon as he decided that the clones don't count as "people", he easily tore them apart

5

u/Saymynaian Jul 04 '26

I'd agree with you, but this revelation that they're clones and not people is headcanon. Also, multi Paul did hold him back. Like, two guys holding onto Mark was enough to slow him down.

Mark is always holding back, and that's a fair explanation of why he doesn't always immediately win, but when a dinosaur, Jesse Pinkman, some underground worms, Angstrom's balls, the MAULER TWINS (who got killed by child Oliver) and so many other things are all legitimate threats despite him being a Viltrumite, it feels like there's no consistency.

Mark is a pushover who can power up to Conquest levels of strength without any in universe explanation. It's not like a desperation power up where he stops holding back either, because he's constantly getting just fucking demolished, with other people's lives in danger justifying him no longer holding back. He's just weak at the start of fights and strong at the end, when he needs to win.

The actual answer with invincible is that the author publicly explicitly dislikes power scaling and is going for a more classic comic vibe where things just happen. People defending the power inconsistencies as logical is crazy, they're really bad, but they're not really a issue to begin with that's just the vibe the author is going for.

2

u/BiredeRovu Jul 04 '26

They are a issue when they want us to feel tension.

6

u/nhansieu1 Jul 04 '26

still more consistent than Marvel/ DC Comics

4

u/SimonMJRpl Jul 04 '26

Part of the problem is that the fights in invicinble aren't about hitting the hardest but surviving the longest

1

u/MalcolmLinair Jul 04 '26

The problem is Mark's legitimately in the top 1% of the universe in terms of power, and is almost always forced to fight the 0.9% of the setting that stronger than him.

1

u/ZylaTFox Jul 05 '26

Mark, aka 'vincible'

0

u/legit-posts_1 Jul 04 '26

Nah, Invincible fans are just dumbasses. Mark starts out pretty weak relative to a Superman-level character, so he gets the shit kicked out of him a lot. But as the series goes on he gets stronger and loses a lot less, only taking serious damage from other Viltrumites or people with specialized equipment.

You know people are always saying how it's hard to write villains that can challenge a superman level character, and then Invincible does it well and people complain.

2

u/Snoo96346 Jul 05 '26

C'mon, Omniman can move planets but struggles to fight some bugs? Invincible too struggles against bugs in early season 3. Are viltrumites dark/psychic type?
