Powers (Hilarious Trope) That's not how this gun works!

EDIT: Just so you know, I might have been wrong about the 3rd example!

  1. The Simpsons (Season 30, Episode 9) - The character is holding a revolver (which is normally charged by putting the bullets inside the cylinder) and charging it by putting a magazine in the grip like a Glock. Please note that this was done intentionally to make fun of how guns are portrayed unrealistically in movies;
  2. Shadow the Hedgehog video game - In one of the trailers, Shadow is holding what I think was an M4A1 and, in this shot, he is arming it by pulling the handguard like a shotgun. The handguard is only for protecting the shooter from the heat generated by the barrel.
  3. Stranger Things (Season 5, Episode 8) - During the fight with the Mindflayer, Nancy is loading an M4A1-5, and, after she inserts a magazine, she is pushing the carrying handle to arm it like a shotgun. That's not what a carrying handle is for, obviously.

I want to mention that I know there's another popular example with a silencer for a shotgun or something, but I am not familiar with it. Also, I tried my best to identify each gun, so please correct me if I was wrong about any of them.

There's also the dardick, which uses triangular rounds or trounds

This has to be the ugliest gun ever made

Zip 22 for consideration

24

u/TeaKingMac Jul 08 '26

Does that... Unfold?

u/Maned_Cyborg Jul 08 '26

Nope, that's the whole gun. It was made to be the cheapest possible gun, so it does come with many issues such as

  • A brittle firing pin that can shatter
  • a plastic bolt, which is so light it cycles too fast for the magazine to feed. It also can shatter
  • a bolt "handle" that for some fucking reason is placed right next to the barrel. Like the thingy at the front is something you have to push. If you're not careful you can shoot your finger off

i feel like if you're going to make a gun that shitty you could probably make an even shittier gun that just blows up the second you pull the trigger. the goal should've been cheapest gun that still works under normal conditions.

It's supposed to be an attachment to another gun, so I don't think so.

26

u/Maned_Cyborg Jul 08 '26

It was made to be the cheapest possible gun. The attachment part was just to try and have a wider possible clientele

But if I already have a gun why to I need a weaker one under it?

Switching weapons is faster than reloading.

That said, the zip was a failure as a product, so you probably don't.

You gotta AIM DOWN YA SIGHTS Ramirez!

2

u/PEKKACHUNREAL_II Jul 09 '26

Not if your side arm is more likely to jam than to fire

2

u/The_Ghast_Hunter Jul 09 '26

And if you're in a fight bad enough to need sidearms, you probably want something stronger than .22

No its just awful lol

2

u/TacTurtle Jul 09 '26

Nope, one of the plungers dangerously close to the muzzle loads the gun and the other one ejects if there is a jam (this one has to be used frequently).

You ever see the Ideal Conceal fake phone gun? Those are wild

1

u/Arbusc Jul 09 '26

Itโ€™s like a real life Warhammer Bolter but bad.

11

u/Alpha433 Jul 08 '26

Naw, the ruskis got that one covered.

I present to you the tkb-022 design

4

u/DeusKether Jul 08 '26

warframe ass weapon

3

u/Alpha433 Jul 08 '26

The entire project produced some absolutly wacky results. Iirc, there was one prototype that used the magazine as the pistol grip, so you were basically forced to grab around the magazine in order to fire the damned thing.

u/Kurotan Jul 08 '26

Kind of looks like a more normal style design cousin to the p90.

1

u/HealthyMaximum Jul 09 '26

This displeases me.

A lot.

3

u/MontrealChickenSpice Jul 08 '26

The Borchardt C-93 would like a word. It is also an early model of magazine-fed semiautomatic pistol.

u/self-conscious-Hat Jul 08 '26

that i actually like because of the back for counterweight. the Dardick just looks like an unfinished AI interpretation lmao.

2

u/TacTurtle Jul 09 '26

I made this one.

1

u/Lord_Doofy Jul 09 '26

At least itโ€™s gun shaped

1

u/TacTurtle Jul 09 '26

Shoots just fine, safety selector is a bit wonky though.

2

u/FisherPrice2112 Jul 08 '26

It definitely is. Looks like a cheap cap gun

1

u/Hoshyro Jul 08 '26

I've seen worse

Some ugly mofos

3

u/TeaKingMac Jul 08 '26

Reliability, safety, versatility

2

u/Bignholy Jul 08 '26

That looks like it's going to be really prone to jamming...

5

u/Abeytuhanu Jul 08 '26

There's a review on gunsandammo.com that says it is prone to jamming, but acknowledges that might be because they had to use substitutes for the bullets

2

u/TeaKingMac Jul 08 '26

Firing pin selector!

This reminds me of the 1950s era bel air with the fold out compartment for a box of tissues.

Why? Because we can!

u/disbelifpapy Jul 09 '26

Looks like one of those memes of an object haveing a part photoshopped out of it like plane turning into plne
