Hated Tropes (Hated Trope) TV endings so awful it completely ruins rewatchability of the entire show.

Game of Thrones - Entire season 8 and finale completely ruins the entire narrative and show ends in the worst way possible. It kills desire to rewatch the show.

How I Met Your Mother - Show ends such awful they kill the... the mother. After spending years growing into a loyal partner and father, he instantly reverted to his old womanizing behavior after his divorce. Also he ends up with robin randomly.

The Boys - While not as bad as GOT but the worst aspect is the cheap Vought Rising spin-off tease, pointless storylines and rushed ending which leaves a sour taste. Despite hitting the right points... it feels cheap and not satisfying.

The reaction to House of the Dragon is mixed (I rather like it). But people overwhelmingly loved A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

people were raving over HOTD season 1 too, I'll wait until season 4

Its because S1 is super well written with strong character arcs, the most compelling monarch in the entire universe on screen so far, and the best of the political intrigue from the early GOT seasons.

I have no idea what the fuck S2 was trying to do and S3 is doing everything it can to have a war not happen

Season two seemed to be a victim of the writers strike. Season three just seems to scraping every inch of its budget after it blew through it in the first episode.

The scripts for S2 were finished months in advance, they just couldn't fiddle with the dialog on set (but the actors could improv).

They thought the scripts (in which Aegon and Helaena never interact after the murder of their son) were good and polished enough to shoot.

Apparently the actors did try to help do a lot of improve and fiddling with wording (with the showrunners permission), but almost none of it was used...other than Rhaenyra kissing Mysaria after Mysaria just got done talking about her childhood sexual abuse, and Aegon pleading for "mummy??" as Alicent walks away from his (assumed) death bed.

I do remember a scene in season 2 where Aegon and Helaena pass each other on a staircase after the murder. He just kinda looks at her and keeps on walking. It’s unclear if he blames her or just doesn’t want to deal with her right now. IIRC, it’s echoed at the end of the episode when Alicent sees Aegon sitting on a bed sobbing. And she just stares at him and walks out. That’s a very clear, “I am not dealing with this shit right now.”

Yes, that scene was not in the original scripts, Tom and Phia (the actors) had to beg for a scene after their kid was killed to be included, as the writers didn't initially bother. And that's what they gave them (prior to the writer's strike). A 10-second scene of them passing on the stairs.

The scripts they originally turned in as the finale one had no scenes of them interacting after their kid was murdered (and they only interact for about 60 seconds before that, in the entire series; mind you, they were siblings forced into unwanted childhood incest by their parents, but the writers didn't find that important enough to ever address). That's what I was referring to.

Mind you, we had a 2 minute 30 seconds long scene of PhilosophyTube rolling around in the mud in the same season.

I would just like to offer a correction, I was mixed up about which scene Tom and Phia had to beg for. The silent staircase passing scene WAS in the original scripts, but the scene in 2x01 where they bicker for a minute about Jaehaerys's schedule and rats was the one that Tom and Phia had to beg to be added last minute. Which in my opinion, reflects even WORSE on the writers.

You don’t understand though, war is coming. Been saying that shit since the end of season 1 despite there being active battles and major casualties.

Also the decision to make Rhaenys and Meleys causally kill a bunch of innocents for an aura move and not end the war right then and there because It wAsNt HeR cHoIcE tO mAkE.

Ugh HOTD makes me so angry with their decisions.

4

u/Farraddaayy Jul 31 '26

Ok *Joins the opposing side and immediately plots to kill them*

Insanely stupid

Also the BTS after creds talking about how this shows the whole difference between the rich and the poor as a social issue then just not mention the hundred dead and maimed like, literally ever again

Great job.

I STG don’t get me started on this trainwreck of inconsistent motivations. Show suffers from the same syndrome so many other adaptations have of seeing the source material and then burning it to keep their fan fiction warm.

Go off I ain't got shi to do at work

S 1 sets up a amazing conflict and then S 2 is like no wait women can't want war or power they are peaceful and lovely creatures while the penises do all the fighting and world ruining!!!

Then S3 just has a single naval battle and an offscreen land battle then ends the war and also Daemon of all people instead of disarming an enemy army says "its over haha go home" and lets them leave???

4

u/salluks Aug 01 '26

S1 was carried solely by the king imo.

5

u/Outrageous_Bank_4491 Jul 31 '26

S3 is awful because they’re going off-script because the producers want “women power” while being incredibly misogynistic

4

u/Important-Leg-2154 Aug 01 '26

It manages to be both misogynistic and have a lot misandry

1

u/Larcye Aug 01 '26

The show is doing everything to not have it end like the book ends. We already know the ending to the story.

1

u/Weird_Bat_Lady Aug 01 '26

I recently rewatched S2 before starting S3 and on second watch I honestly didn't find it as bad. Liking S3 so far.

Knight of the Seven Kingsoms was great, just so short and I hate that there's so much space between seasons nowadays

1

u/Typical-Ad-9625 Aug 01 '26

I enjoy the series, but there is noone to root for. There are not really likeable character like in GoT.

A Knight of the seven kingdoms is an A+ for me

u/don-chocodile Aug 01 '26

Season 2 was definitely a step down from season 1, but if you take the first two episodes of season 3 and slap them onto season 2 (which was the showrunner’s original intent) it’s actually quite decent.

u/skoomski Aug 01 '26

WTH? I just read AKOSK is planned to 12-15 seasons. I thought it was meant to be a small series.

3

u/Both_Lynx_8750 Jul 31 '26

because he can write a beginning he just can't write a fucking ending

3

u/Important-Leg-2154 Aug 01 '26

GRRM? He actually can, just not for the series people care about

2

u/Shadowmonarch660 Jul 31 '26

im not judging, actually ive watched the whole season 1, and found it good, but i lost the interest.

3

u/vanastalem Aug 01 '26

AKOTSK is great! HotD is not good and I quit after Season 2.

6

u/Gorostasguru Jul 31 '26

HoD this third season is dull and half of cast is miserable.

21

u/ChristTheChampion Jul 31 '26

I like this season better than the last one for some of the characters. The new Hightower dude is a weirdo and I think it’s kinda unique, but then you have Allicent who does nothing but walk around with concerned face.

6

u/Specialist_Humor_651 Jul 31 '26

The episode this season that was basically 50 minutes of Rhaenyra having an anxiety attack around the castle was great.

5

u/Chick-Thunder-Hicks Jul 31 '26

Ormund blowing chunks all over his fancy table over the dudes being covered in cow shit was hilarious.

u/BlazedBoylan Jul 31 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

I’d be pretty concerned too if all of my relatives were weird incest babies riding on nuclear missiles to kill each other.

I don’t know that I’d be an important enough part of that to warrant a third of the screen time though.

2

u/SlightlySychotic Jul 31 '26

It’s mixed. Like there’s been a big twist or character death every episode. But the remaining forty minutes seems to be just faffing about. Rhaenyra slowly losing it. Alicent slowly becoming more desperate and trying to find a way out for her an Helaena. You can see where that shit’s going and you know they’re just buying time for the finale.

Oddly enough, I’m really enjoying the Aegon and Larys storyline despite thinking I would always hate those characters. Again, there’s a lot of faffing about but at least the actors are great and seem to be having fun.

We're at the point where most of what should be happening in HOTD is big battle sequences since, you know, it's a war. But it's clear that doing more than 1-2 a season is beyond the show's budget, so they keep having to gloss over everything.

It's also an awkward story to adapt, because it's written very "realistically" like a real life history book would be. The major players spend a lot of time sitting in their castles not doing anything, and there are a lot of characters who do one important thing and then die or are forgotten about because most people aren't making history every day of their lives. But the show needs the main characters to have scenes in every episode, so they keep having to invent reasons for them to be in the show. Most of them end up being pointless to not interfere with the actual plot.

I know this is edited, but God I hate her fuck ass wig.

4

u/NoBizlikeChloeBiz Jul 31 '26

That's a shame. I was really enjoying it, but Season 2 ended basically exactly where Season 1 ended (oh man, we've really done it now, an actual war is gonna start this second), and all of the trailers I saw for Season 3 looked like they could have just been using shots from Season 2. I still haven't gotten around to it because as much as I like the characters and the setting, they haven't convinced me it's going to go anywhere.

4

u/Miserable_Spell_2964 Jul 31 '26

Thats pretty much me when it comes to HoD, they keep trying to hype up that the war will eventually start and im sitting here like "Oh for fucks sake im not doing this again"

2

u/SlightlySychotic Jul 31 '26

War started. Hell, war basically ended in the first episode. The battle they were building up to last season happened offscreen.

2

u/Miserable_Spell_2964 Jul 31 '26

You gotta be shitting me, they had the battle offscreen?

3

u/SlightlySychotic Jul 31 '26

Well, one did. The battle between the Daemon’s army and the Lannisters happened offscreen with the camera turning during the aftermath. But the naval battle between Corlys and the Free State fleet took up most of the first episode. Probably more than half of the season’s budget used up right there.

2

u/Fakjbf Jul 31 '26

The first two episodes of season 3 literally are from season 2. It was originally supposed to be ten episodes each but HBO cut them down to eight for seasons 2 and 3, but they were already significantly into production of season 2 when that happened. So episodes 1 and 2 of season 3 are genuinely supposed to be episodes 9 and 10 of season 2.

-7

u/xvsanx Jul 31 '26

the characters are annoying and the cast isn't very good at acting imo, I couldn't take anymore after episode 3

looking forward to more Dunc and Egg though

1

u/skoomski Aug 01 '26

It is good but also appeals to a broader audience the first season had little to no fantasy elements

-1

u/SoggyOutfield Jul 31 '26

House of dragons is..ok. it reuses so many plot points from GoT and...why the fuck did they use the same theme song lol? Like, how fucking lazy and just weird

2

u/Fakjbf Jul 31 '26

They did mix it up for season 3 by adding war drums, if the show actually leaned into showing us the details of the war it would be perfect.
