Hated Tropes (Hated Trope) TV endings so awful it completely ruins rewatchability of the entire show.

Game of Thrones - Entire season 8 and finale completely ruins the entire narrative and show ends in the worst way possible. It kills desire to rewatch the show.

How I Met Your Mother - Show ends such awful they kill the... the mother. After spending years growing into a loyal partner and father, he instantly reverted to his old womanizing behavior after his divorce. Also he ends up with robin randomly.

The Boys - While not as bad as GOT but the worst aspect is the cheap Vought Rising spin-off tease, pointless storylines and rushed ending which leaves a sour taste. Despite hitting the right points... it feels cheap and not satisfying.

It’s ego. They shot the original ending during season 1 and wanted to keep it. They couldn’t pivot because it meant that they were wrong.

To my knowledge, it was because they didn't want the kids to age over the years of filming

Sure, but....tradeoffs. I don't think the fans would have cared that much if we just...didn't actually cut back to the kids in the finale.

Yeah we barely ever saw or heard from the kids towards the end anyway. In early seasons they would occasionally interject or we would see their reaction to things, but in later seasons all we would get was quick b role shots of them looking forward and not saying anything. Obviously that was due to the kids aging and them not being able to shoot anything new with them, but no one cared that they were featured less in later seasons.

I always thought it was stupid they didn't just do a 4th wall wink to the audience, have them be teenagers and say something like "God, dad, it feels like you've been telling this story for almost a decade, can you get to the point?" or something like that. It is a comedy series after all.

There was this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YhxKIVwD_E that had the aged kids, it just wasn't aired on tv.

Kind of like Roseanne and the two Beckys.

Or Morgan Matthews longest timeout in boy meets world

That would have been perfect.

Or they could have just shot a bunch of alternate endings with the kids and teenagers. Give them more options.

I would have been ok with the kids being grown ups with their own babies and laughing at her dad, saying it took him the same amount of time to tell the story than it took her to find their mom.

yeah, there's like a million ways they could have worked around the whole 'we already shot the ending thing' so I don't buy that excuse. They must have really wanted to show the ending we got.

I’m pretty sure they brought the daughter actress back to voice some lines in the final season and she was like “is she dead??? Please don’t kill the mom off!”

So the kids are an excuse for them not seeing the majority of their audience was over Ted and Robin

They could just recast. I mean the base premise of the show is that a fully grown man is going to somehow morph into Bob Saget

Great lesson in coverage. Shoot stuff you don’t think you’ll need. Painting yourself into a corner years out might not be the best move.

Do we have a pro AI in entertainment argument brewing here? Mostly /s

Not in a million years. They should have found some other creative thing to do

If the show ended after 5 years it could be worked. Ted would have had longer with the mother, so it wouldn't have felt so much like 'how I met my womb', they wouldn't have beaten the Robin isn't right for Ted' horse to death, and Barney/Robin will they, won't then thing wouldn't have gone on so long, if at all.

That seems like a bit of an assumption
