Hated Tropes Stupid Contrived Survival Stories

  1. 12 Feet Deep - Two idiots decide they absolutely positively MUST go swimming in a pool after it's closed. An incredibly contrived sequence of events happens so they get stuck in a pool. So the movie can happen.

  2. Frozen (not that one) - Three idiots decide they absolutely positively MUST get on a ski-lift after it's closed. To the point of bribing the operator who for some stupid reason doesn't say anything. Do the movie can happen. Also, Wolves are not that aggressive. They are typically shy and avoid humans.

  3. 47 Meters Down- Arguably the most believable scenario on this list. It's still really stupid.

  4. Fall- Two idiots decide to climb an abandoned radio tower without proper equipment that would make escaping their predicament trivially easy. Stop me if you've heard this one before

so the movie can happen.

You're underestimating how stupid humans can be

See, for instance, those dumbass rich guys who took a jury-rigged submarine to go goggle at the Titanic. Or that one guy who wandered off into the wilderness, alone, without telling anyone where he was going or when he'd be back, and had to cut his own arm off after it got stuck under a rock

Or, for a not-famous example, I had to rescue a dumbass teenager the other day who hopped into an Uber with no phone, no contacts memorized, not even knowing the address, alone, at 9 at night, zero backup plan for when they dropped her off at a random intersection.

Up to the minute I got her back to her mom, I don't think she had the faintest idea that she was putting herself in serious danger of getting kidnapped or worse.

Very concerned that might’ve been the mom’s fault because what teenager goes anywhere without their phone. Sounds like a crazy sheltered upbringing

Hopefully, her mom had a talk with her about basic common sense, because girl, that's how you end up on the news!

I just learned the difference between jury-rigged and jerry-built. thanks friend

edit: jerry-rigged is a blend/bastardized version. yes it is now commonly accepted because that’s how language works. * sigh *

can’t even use the word “literally” anymore..

Cavers with a good paying job and a loving family seeing a hole named “silly string” that is about two inches small than their head and probably has a dead end: “Totally worth it.”
