Hated Tropes Stupid Contrived Survival Stories

  1. 12 Feet Deep - Two idiots decide they absolutely positively MUST go swimming in a pool after it's closed. An incredibly contrived sequence of events happens so they get stuck in a pool. So the movie can happen.

  2. Frozen (not that one) - Three idiots decide they absolutely positively MUST get on a ski-lift after it's closed. To the point of bribing the operator who for some stupid reason doesn't say anything. Do the movie can happen. Also, Wolves are not that aggressive. They are typically shy and avoid humans.

  3. 47 Meters Down- Arguably the most believable scenario on this list. It's still really stupid.

  4. Fall- Two idiots decide to climb an abandoned radio tower without proper equipment that would make escaping their predicament trivially easy. Stop me if you've heard this one before

so the movie can happen.

A MOVIE coming out this month on the 16th I believe is about a man surviving being swallowed by a whale (my bad on the spelling mistake)

Nope. Jonah.

My favorite thing is people are like, 'Oh, Jonah Hill, fucking fat guy from Superbad.' And I'm like, 'I would fucking annihilate you, dude. I'm not kidding you. Try it. If you see me, try it, dude. Bring it. Who's got it?'

Jonah hill should have been the villain in this is the end

Which is phisically impossible btw. Most Whales have throats that are to narrow for a human to fit trough

Have you not read the BIBLE??????

Act of divine providence does not count as a general example

Next they'll be saying that strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is a basis for a system of government

u/TheStrangestOfKings 15d ago

Which is crazy! You can't expect to wield supreme power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!

They're probably trying to say the whole movie concept is based off Jonah in the Bible. Whether it's realistically possible or not, this is basically what the movie is most likely parodying and why it's being made

I think he is stuck in the whales mouth not throat. Could be wrong

Now I haven't seen the movie, so I could be wrong, but 1. From the trailer it looked like an actually stomach, 2. I'm pretty sure getting stuck in a whale's mouth is even less possibile al the whale would have to open its mouth multiple times to, yk, live. Plus in the movie it's a sperm whale, whose mouth are pretty thin and small so I don't even know if you can phisically fit in one without being crushed (but I'm not sure if that's actually the case). And even more, he gets trapped in the Sperm Whale's mouth during its hunt for a giant squid... Never mind those hunts happens way to deep for any human to actually reach (and the movie even shows it happen on some kind of reef? Somwhere never creature would go during such an hunt)

I just read the book not knowing about the movie being made. He gets swallowed all the way into like the second stomach iirc. It’s in Monterrey Bay, CA so it’s probably kelp forest. He does talk about how unlikely it is to see a sperm whale and a squid at the depth he is and his dad who was a life long diver never saw either there. The book is ok. I’ll watch the movie on a plane someday because I read the book which was a gift from my wife. It was entertaining enough for a pretty short read.

Apparently the whale ate an octopus and that's what pulled the man in. As if it wasn't contrived enough, am I right? Yay, Whalefall.

giant squid, which tracks with their diet, but yeah. That dude would be dead and also spit out

Which still doesn’t work, because the whale would still not be able to squish a guy’s carcass into its orange sized throat, unlike it can with a squid

Spermwhales have a lot bigger than an orange sized mouth. I don't think it's big enough to swallow a human true, but they are big damn animals.

I mean if he’s gonna die he’s at least doing it while serving /j

It’s based on a book and the book is really good. I honestly look forward to a book movie for once.

it also was a humpback instead of a sperm whale iirc

Jonah?

(I know the Bible translation is a bit shady)

Dude the trailer for that made me so tense
Though I’ve heard the whole thing wouldn’t be happening if he’d just not gone down there alone

And that actor keeps acting in bangers. It looks really good, I hope it is. Though I could not watch it in theaters, looks too stressful.

Wtf will it even be about? I've seen like 3 trailers
