Hated Tropes (Hated trope) Remember all these stories and characters we followed for so long? Welp now it’s all reset.

1: using another flashpoint to create the tomorrowverse (Justice League Dark: Apokolips war) after 80-90% of the cast is killed off and billions lives are fated to die Flash and Constantine hatch up a plan to kill baby Darkseid to prevent the entire story from happening which just leads to an entirely different universe being formed and even erasing some characters from existence.

2: Jim travelling to the beginning (Tales of Arcadia series) after multiple characters die including Toby Jim uses a magic gem to travel back to the very first episode but instead lets Toby find the amulet… this changes things how?

Sonic Prime ends like this to preserve status quo, with Sonic ending up traveling back in time before the inciting event (somehow) and stopping the entire plot from happening, inadvertently proving the series' antagonist right. I could swear word of god said this was a full-on cosmic retcon, but I might have hallucinated that, since the characters have cameos in Crossworlds

Oh yeah Sonic 06 also happened and then got reset. Nothing all that interesting happens in the story but the weird part is how it should've prevented the awful future that Silver and Blaze come from. They still show up in later games with no real explanation why.

Blaze at least had an origin in the Sonic Rush games prior to 06…I’m not sure they ever tried to explain why Blaze was in the future or if that’s tied to Rush at all, but at least that’s sort of a reason for her.  No reason for Silver, though.

The comics implied in a short conversation between Silver and Espio that Silver's existence is tied directly to the future, so if everything is right and dandy, Silver might as well not exist even though he is there in a happy future talking with Espio, but if there is enough risks that Sonic and co. might fail a crisis in the past, Silver always goes to the past to help them fix it.

This because apparently the future is a straight line that changes in real time, because Silver mentions multiple times across the various arcs on which he appears how the future suddenly changes around him, which is what prompts him to travel back every time, which has its own implications about his place in the world and everything he knows. Lastly, he also mentions how tired of it all he feels.

Don't know where are they going with that but it sounds like they are cooking something nice for Silver in the future lol

Oh yeah, 06 would've been a better example, but in its case the retcon was for the best.

Also, I'm here for Silver's involvement in 06 having changed him, maybe interacting with Mephiles and time traveling in the first place untethered him.

The answer is that something always threatens Silver's future. No matter what happens or who he saves, something will always threaten it to preserve the status quo.

Of course the dlc cross overs aren’t canon. No more then all the other wacky characters they cross in.

Sega just acknowledged that Prime for example did existence and their characters are playable. Nothing more.

If I remember correctly the Shatterspaces still exist, just separate from the real world. He just stopped the Paradox Prism from breaking and tearing his world into the Shatterspaces a second time.
