Hated Tropes (Hated trope) Remember all these stories and characters we followed for so long? Welp now it’s all reset.

1: using another flashpoint to create the tomorrowverse (Justice League Dark: Apokolips war) after 80-90% of the cast is killed off and billions lives are fated to die Flash and Constantine hatch up a plan to kill baby Darkseid to prevent the entire story from happening which just leads to an entirely different universe being formed and even erasing some characters from existence.

2: Jim travelling to the beginning (Tales of Arcadia series) after multiple characters die including Toby Jim uses a magic gem to travel back to the very first episode but instead lets Toby find the amulet… this changes things how?

jojo is mostly because the universe, for all intents and purposes, "reset" with each part. We have entirely new casts of heroes and villains with only a couple returning characters each part, so a universal reset isn't as out there as it can be for other shows

Yeah it’s not a reset in the traditional sense, it’s more like a reboot which is why it generally works.

This is very true and really is to Araki's credit as he is able to tell a variety of stories, but he did completely reboot the universe after Stone Ocean. I really think Steel Ball Run (and JoJolion and JoJoLands) really showcase Araki's talent and skill as a writer because he is able to do the reboot successfully. He explores the new universe while keeping just enough of the core concepts and names and such that you can see what came before but enjoy it in a way that never feels stale.

It does confuse pretty many people because the reboot came immediately after the universe reset. They think SBR is the resetted universe

I mean it is in a way, but it’s so totally different is why it works. It’s not an undo all the character development and set everyone exactly as we know to square one even if the original universe is gone.

Yes but Steel Ball Run was a complete reboot of the universe. I think Araki does a really great job of exploring the rebooted universe (in SBR and then JoJolion and JoJoLands) while keeping enough nods to the previous iterations to keep it fresh but also giving nostalgia for what came before.

I loved that little touch. Araki finds the most fun and original ways to pay homage to his previous works and show connective tissue between them.

Not to mention there are plenty of characters that are all but their mainline universe counterparts

And Araki does that in such a way that it doesn't feel like the character was cut and pasted or that the new story is a rehash of a previous one. For example, Phantom Blood/Stardust Crusaders Dio feels very different than SBR Dio, has a different storyline, etc.

SBR Dio (late spoilers) actually helps the protagonists (not necessarily out of altruism, but because he wanted the parts for himself), although his AU counterpart still tries to bamboozle them in the end and is a bit more sociopathic. But I still wish Diego & Hot Pants could have survived and gotten together because they were such a fun pairing, in the same weird way that Jolyne & Anasui were.

Also, he had a legitimate reason to be a dick. OG Dio's only reason was "lmao fuck the Joestars"
