Hey everyone, I’m pretty new to this, so bear with me.
I used around 80 grams of THC trim and 26 grams of CBD flower, decarbed them in the oven, roughly broke everything up by hand and put it all in the jar you can see in the picture. I covered it with 1,5 L 96% ethanol.
It’s been sitting for about 4 weeks now, and I’ve been shaking the jar every day.
Recently, I’ve noticed this yellowish layer forming on top. Whenever I shake the jar, it disperses, but then seems to collect again and stick around instead of dissolving.
I tried straining a small amount of the liquid through a cloth. The green plant material stayed behind, as expected, but I also ended up with this yellow, sandy-looking powder. It honestly looks a lot like pollen/hash to me.. which makes me wonder if this whole thing is working
So here are a handful of questions :
Is this normal with an alcohol extraction?
Should this stuff dissolve in 96% ethanol, or is it something that simply doesn’t dissolve?
Did I mess something up during the process?
Could this mean that some of the THC/CBD isn’t being extracted properly, or affect the potency of the final tincture?
Is there anything I should do with the yellow powder, or is it just something to filter out?(it defo feels weird to toss something that looks like straight Pollum)
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s dealt with something similar. I’m not sure whether I’m looking at resin, waxes, plant material or something else entirely.
Thanks in advance for any advice! Still learning, so any help is appreciated.
