Has anyone from Montgomery county lived at home and commuted to the BSN program in Baltimore? If so, did you drive or take the MARC train, and was the added time reasonable to manage with the workload?

Note: I was already accepted to the Baltimore program and would have to apply to transfer to Shady Grove. I’m hoping to get a scholarship that will support me moving to Baltimore but I haven’t heard back yet.

Hello, for anyone who has applied after July 15th, have you received a decision or an email as an update on when decisions will be out? I believe they stated the second week of October or near the end of October to some people but I haven’t received any confirmation or information. If anyone gets something please feel free to let me know! Thank you! It’s strange because priority admission got an email on when their decision would be out so I don’t know.

I’m taking 2 science courses and am scared my grades will drop as my 1st exam score was really bad. Have they revoked any provisional acceptance due to not meeting the gpa or is there some room if it is below the minimum gpa.

I recently got an interview invite at UMSOM and I’m hoping to talk to some current students to learn more about the community and school. I don’t have anyone I know currently at UMSOM so hopefully there are a few of you who can help out! My biggest questions are:

- I have seen a lot of students online say that the UMSOM class is generally very friendly and that the environment is pretty nurturing, without the “competitiveness” (one classmate vs. the other vibe) that other medical schools may have. Has that been your experience and how have you found working in groups or making friends?

- I’m very passionate about cancer and oncology after personal experiences growing up. I know that UMSOM has the Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center but are there special opportunities that medical students get working with this patient population or doing research? If any of you are interested in oncology, do you feel like UMSOM has prepared you well for your future career and goals?

- What was your interview like? Which one did you find more stressful/serious: the student interview or the faculty interview?

- Lastly, what is your favorite and least favorite part of UMSOM?

I am looking into applying to the nursing program with the entry level if you have a masters degree, I currently did my healthcare administration, my MBA both with over a 3.0 GPA with a recommendation from my honor society program from my graduate level I was wondering how good my changes of getting accepted would be

I don’t have a ton of sciences so idk if that plays a major factor or is there anything else I can do to better my chances

I have been really considering applying to the BSN program Fall of 27.
I graduated from community college last spring with an Associates in Science, but my overall GPA from there was only a 3.0.
I transferred to UMD College Park this Fall, and plan on finishing the rest of my pre reqs.
So far i’ve completed A&P I, A&P II (both with B’s), Microbio(A), Bio I(A), and Chem I and Chem II (both with A’s).
I also have a years worth of Medical assistant experience at a podiatrist office.
I’m pretty dead set on wanting to go to UMSON, and just wanted to know if anyone has any idea on my chances for admission, or even some advice on what more I can do.
I am currently finishing the rest of my pre reqs this Fall, and aiming to get A’s in everything.

does anyone know any good places to study on campus in any of the buildings?? i tried the library once but maybe i just wasnt in a great section but i didnt love the room i was in. our building has study rooms but we arent supposed to use them unfortunately. any hidden gems ??

I am a umbc student and in the guranteed pathway and my advisor told me that i would be hearing back about a decision in the first week of september but i havent seen anything yet so getting kind of worried. if anyone has any information it would be a huge help! thanks!

Applying to UMSON BSN for Spring 2027. I have a bachelor’s degree, CNA experience, and recent prerequisite grades of B in A&P I, B in Chemistry, C in A&P II, with Microbiology planned/in progress. I also have older poor grades that lowered my cumulative GPA, but my recent academic performance is much stronger and I’m submitting the supplemental academic explanation. Has anyone been accepted to UMSON with a similar academic history?

UMB classified my residency as out-of-state. I have lived in Baltimore since the summer of 2024 and submitted all the required documentation to petition for reclassification per the university policy (deed to my home, MD driver’s license and vehicle registration, MD income taxes, MD voter registration). They denied my petition and are charging me out-of-state tuition.

Has anyone else had this issue? How were you able to resolve it?

Off campus student apartment

I’m 19F, taking a year off college after my freshman year (I go to a private university in PA) and I’m spending it in Baltimore and taking community college classes starting this August so I don’t fall too behind when I go back. I really need to secure housing though. If anyone has recommendations for student apartments please let me know.
