Discussion Buy Used or Repair??

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My right controller's finger tracking is all fucked up, I'm always flipping people off because the middle finger won't go down lmao. Valve denied my RMA twice, and they're apparently not selling right controllers anymore.

I've looked around online and controllers are so expensive now, specifically if you need a right one like I do. I've seen a few left controllers up for like $80-$130, but never a right one for less than $200.

For myself and maybe other people in my unlucky scenario, would you buy used or pay for a repair??

Yeah, if I recall this is a known issue with the last ones they were releasing. I also got one. RMA way late cus I was lazy and still had an old set. The old set, the right grip was 100% all the time and I couldn't use it. New grip has the same issue yours does and a sensor issue for the ring finger as well. It works okay enougb to play games but yeah.

I'd love to know about a repair tho. I'm pretty handy with small electronic repairs.

Tundra sells them refurbished for $95, though they're out of stock at the moment - could sign up for the notification list on that.

I saw but I didn't know they had a notification list for it, good call, thanks

Tundra Labs - they make the Tundra Tracker for full body, but also sell refurbished Index parts.

Will they refurbish parts for you?

I don't believe so, no. Not sure where they procure their parts exactly.

Just ask them, their support is insane. I dropped one of my Tundra trackers and the shell was broken. Found no shells and thought I must buy a new one. I asked them if I can buy only the shell and they said I can have a shell for free, only have to pay for the shipping costs. Payed less than 10€ for the shipping and surprise, they even send me 2 shells. 2nd one must still laying around somewhere here as a spare part

Crazy how regular controllers have been solved at this point and VR, especially lighthouse controllers are just so far behind. You can get a controller with TMR sticks and extra buttons for $30. WHY are used valve index controllers 5x times that FOR ONE SIDE and they break/drift within months. the only new sticks for lighthouse are $400. I'm considering ditching my whole setup for the Frame for that one reason.

as cool as the index controllers where, I can't stand the lack of a dedicated grip button. the unreliability of the controller finger tracking stacked with games sometimes only needing one finger to count as grip or full white knuckling it always irritated me. plus letting go of things like guns in shooters to switch to something else was always a hassle, especially if you where sweaty. as fun as finger tracking was, I much prefer the quest pros full hand tracking for social stuff and the dedicated grip button on quest controllers. no opinions on the frame because I haven't used one yet

it always felt super natural to me, i would loosen the straps a bit so it would feel more natural to hold the grip

these issues can be resolved in steamvr input.

yeah but it's always a hassle for something that's already a hassle. the barrier to get up and into VR is already a commitment for the night, to spend it messing with even more menus sucks. I already have to mess with my audio settings especially if I'm in a call as well as make sure other things launched properly depending on the game and if it's modded then I hope to god some update didn't break things. menus menus menus, Im tired of them while wearing a toaster

Where are you? I'm in Louisiana and plan to sell my Index kit once my Frame arrives (next week?). I could part with my Right Knuckle if you're nearby.

I’m also in Louisiana, are you still asking for $300 for the full kit??

Have you tried the calibration ?

Yeah, I've tried power cycling, doin the drumroll thing, re-pairing, removing all devices, and everything else Steam support told me to do. It started to work then the ring finger would get completely stuck, I'd power cycle, and the issue would start over with the middle finger. Valve said it was "likely a hardware issue" but they won't help me unfortunately
