[Discussion] I had a very strange experience in DC last night

This all started at the NoMa metro stop where I got off with 2 of my friends. We are just walking towards the bar and this woman comes out of nowhere, maybe she was walking in the opposite direction? Honestly I have no idea. She tells me she’s locked out of her and needs to dial numbers… you see normally I would say no because I’m worried about digital scams but she looked like she needed some help. So she dials two numbers, one of which she said was her “brother” multiple times and no one picks up, I can see she’s visibly anxious biting her nails and then eventually when no one picks up she RUNS away to the point I couldn’t catch up with her when one of the number texts me.

Okay now this I where I ended up realizing what it ACTUALLY was lol. The “brother” number texts me. He says Hey and I let him know I just talked to his sister who’s locked out her car blah blah do you need me to go find her again. He tells me he doesn’t have a sister so I re-explain the situation maybe it was brother in a friend way, gave him a brief physical description and he kept saying he has no idea who that was and to stay away from her and to keep myself safe. BTW once those numbers didn’t pick up she RANNNN away in the opposite direction. I think maybe she was trying to get ahold of her dealer I couldn’t really tell but definitely a strange interaction nonetheless. Hopefully there’s no tracker on me 😅😅

Edit: I never handed her my phone, I put her on speaker and held it myself because I was worried I was getting scammed

[Rant] to whoever stole boxes of candy from boo at the zoo tonight

1.0k Upvotes

...you literally stole candy from children tonight. I was volunteering at the exits and children were CRYING because once the storm passed and the party restarted, so many candy booths had to shut down because you snatched and ran off with massive industrial sized shipping boxes of candy during the storm. A lot of families came after the storm and didn't even get much candy in the end.

Edit to add: yes, I needed to bitch about this lol. Although I don't have kids, or even want kids, it completely sets me off when selfishness affects children. I know the perps will never see this but man...

[Rant] $40K, yes 40, in unpaid speeding tickets. The Keystone State isn’t sending their best

Post image

159 tickets. Think about that.

It’s depressing that 1/3 of people in DC make less money each year than this guy has in unpaid fines.

Why do we permit out of state drivers to violate our laws with impunity? Ward 9 remains undefeated, as always. Same reason we’re banning Waymo to protect out of state uber drivers over our own safety.

[News] An update from the Purple Line (spoiler alert: it's still not open) Spoiler

Went jogging around Bethesda this week to explore the progress on the Purple Line and the associated bike path. I'm still hoping for a mostly protected loop between the Capitol Crescent Trail and Rock Creek Park for biking in the somewhat near future. Here's what I saw:

- It's still closed but it seems close to finished! All tracks and infrastructure are in place as far as I could see. The bike trail is fully paved and there were construction vehicles parked on the bike trail.

- The construction team seemed to be working on ramps. Specifically, on the north side of the rail track at Pearl Street, and at the East/West Hwy underpass.

- There does not seem to be a place to access the trail from the south side. Google Maps seems like there should be an access point by the Elm Street Park on the south side of the rail track but it didn't seem to be the case in person.

- I was hoping there might be a staged opening of the bike path before the trains, but it seems like the bike path is being used for construction vehicles so my bet is it won't open early :(

Hope that helps! Curious to hear other thoughts, especially farther from downtown Bethesda which I didn't make it to.

[Rant] Diesel-Powered Lights on Capitol Grounds

• Upvotes

How can we force the architect of the capitol/whoever controls these decisions to get rid of the unsightly, polluting diesel generator lights all around the capitol grounds. They have been around for years at this point, they run them all night, and they put out some nasty fumes.

Just randomly saw a TikTok of a corn maze (in MN) where there are reps from breweries and distilleries hidden throughout the maze with samples of their product, so you walk through the maze collecting drinks…I’m dying to do this does anyone know if there is something similar in the DC area?? If not can someone please make this!?

WHAT an incredible show. Just got out of it and I cannot recommend it enough. Just wall to wall TALENT from the four performers and very pertinent to our times without being overly preachy. Just phenomenal musicianship and exactly the right length.

[Discussion] Has anyone successfully switched neurologists within MedStar Georgetown Headache Center?

I’ve been a patient at the MedStar Georgetown Headache Center since 2021, and I’m wondering whether anyone here has successfully changed neurologists within the practice.

My neurologist is Dr. Hamilton, and unfortunately I don’t feel like we are a good fit. Our communication styles don’t really mesh, and over time I’ve increasingly felt like the severity of my neurological symptoms and the amount of disability I’m experiencing are not being fully understood or taken seriously.

My condition has gotten significantly worse. I’m now spending a substantial amount of time bedridden and dealing with severe, constant head and neurological pain, so having a doctor I feel comfortable communicating with has become extremely important.

I contacted MedStar about transferring to another headache specialist within the same practice and was told that their policy does not allow patients to switch physicians. I even appealed the decision and explained how serious my situation has become, but I was still told I could not change doctors.

I’m honestly confused by this policy. I understand practices need continuity of care, but if the physician-patient relationship isn’t working, it seems strange that there would be no process for requesting another provider.

Has anyone here been treated at the Georgetown Headache Center and successfully switched neurologists, appealed this policy, or found another way to get a second opinion within MedStar? I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation.

How are people planning to get to the No Kings rally today? Arlington Cemetery is closed. I'm injured and can't ride my bike. How can I get there?

Does anyone know if the metro parking lit will be open?
