That’s honestly not it. I don’t get paid a great wage either and I don’t go around smashing others peoples stuff. It’s a work culture issue

Absolutely not excusing the behavior but things like this get changed from the top. We have a dude at work that is a nightmare to work with. Lazy, grumpy, rude. Management complains about him. Never writes him up, coaches, anything. Our union contract gives them plenty of leeway to discipline but they would rather we all think he’s “overly protected.”

Yeah its probably because there is not really a risk of accountability. So many people touch the bags and it is a process to get the bags from check in to the plane to collection. You could reasonably assume the break happened at any point so you cant definitively prove a baggage handler did it. Most people probably dont have that level of anonymity to be able to be so haphazard and not care.

culture and personal issue. some people work jobs like that with an idgaf mentality and will do whatever they want until they get caught and fired

Also people who get paid low wages that care about their job are the exception. You literally get what you pay for. Call me crazy.

Or maybe they only qualify for low wage jobs because they're pieces of shit who never gave a damn about anything, and that's how they got stuck working shit jobs.

Honestly, I'll give you a C in terms of ragebait. This would be a believable Facebook or Twitter comment.

That's always it

Low wages invite bad behavior, it doesn't guarantee it but it always invites it.

You being different doesn't mean other people aren't. Many people don't give a shit if they don't get paid shit and that's just the way it is

You get what you pay for

It really is it though, youre just looking at from the wrong side.

They're not doing it because they get paid a low wage. They get paid a low wage because they are the type of person who does this and therefore cannot compete in positions where the stakes are higher.

If they raised the pay for these positions, they would have more people to choose from and the throwers would have to find other lower paying jobs.

Do you do the same thing a few hundred times a day. Maybe you start off super careful at the beginning but after a while I'm sure that would wear off.

Yeah I agree, it’s not about the pay, they go out of their way to do this. If you disagree, you’ve never done manual labor before, it take so much more effort and energy to toss it

So the neat thing is, maybe you don't get paid a great wage right now, but if you keep that attitude up it'll probably pay off for you in the long run. It did for me, anyway.

This isn’t 1970s. Loyalty and work ethic don’t get you anywhere anymore.

Loyalty? No.

Refusing to do a job less than properly? Yes.

And I'm not saying that minimum wage at McDonald's is worth your A game, or you should spend extra time to outperform the requirements your client is paying for, anything like that. Let’s be realistic, some jobs it's just not worth giving it your all etc, and that's fine. That's real life.

But making sure that when you do a job, nobody can say you didn't do it right. That attitude pays off long term. There will definitely be times when it's a waste of effort, but it's more about how you live your life than anything else.

That guy chucking suitcases? Guarantee that he lives a shit life now and forever, until he fixes his attitude.

You can fix work culture by paying people a living wage.
