Had to gate check my carryon…

…and then watch the fellas manhandle it from my seat while waiting to de-plane. 😑

Why are you always traveling with glass? Common sense would tell me to put the fragile items in my hand or backpack, especially after the first 3 times things got broken..

Especially after the first time, maybe second time a most. All the glass stuff would be carry on or in a backpack where I’m holding it myself

Is honey considered a liquid? I guess it depends on how many ounces they had and if it was in a clear bottle

Ah yeah. True. I think honey still falls under the 3.4oz limit.

But the French presses, tea set, etc... all carry on lol.

The jar of honey I guess would go deep inside the center of the luggage surround by all the clothes as "cushion"

I was literally picturing someone cramming 2 coffee makers a honey jar and a tea set in a single suitcase ngl. I was like "well yeah no shit they broke"

I mean the context of this post is a carryon and they didnt say their checked bag so the implication is that the items were in a carry on which can be a hard sided luggage piece that in theory should be subjected to fewer potential impacts than a backpack. You had to go out of your way to call them out...

It was gate-checked. Gate-checking is absolutely out of control. The last flight I was on the pre-boarding announcement was “we need 18 volunteers to gate-check their luggage”. Like wtf, how are you overselling luggage space by that much. I paid for a carry-on!

I had a very expensive camera I would travel with. After the first time it was man-handled I bought a pelican carry on case for that shit. Wound up also putting mugs (my wife collects them from places we go). Never had something broken again.

Just flew Alaska last weekend, started boarding with “voluntary” carry on checkin, then went to “mandatory” carryon check by my time because it’s “now full”, when I got into cabin, overhead was about 50% full near end of boarding, my Patagonia bag came out of baggage claim like 2 of these fools did same,

I traveled with a little china. My mom sold her house. UPS was outrageous so I had some stuff in a backpack, carryon, and a checked bag. Some of this stuff was from great and great, great grandparents. Luckily only one thing was stolen out of the checked bag and I was stupid on that.

bruh what i travel all the time with glass bottles full of liquid. if they break it's on you, wrap them good

every time i go back from europe to the US i just buy a couple of yoga mats for 2 euros from Action and just wrap all glass with it, each one gets a roll. nothing ever gets damaged even when my suitcase is LITERALLY CRACKED APART (CDG is worse than any US airport), and at least I get some spare yoga mats i can dirty and throw out in my crawlspace so i dont hurt my back
