💭 Question Nepropagandni izvori o bliskoj političkoj istoriji?
Hvala unapred :)

💭 Question Documentaries on Slobodan Milošević and how he rose to power.
I recently read 'Love thy Neighbour' By Peter Maass and I am looking to learn more about Slobodan Milošević- how he utilised the idea of a 'greater Serbia' to incite such violence, his political strategies and his downfall.
Honestly documentaries on even just the fall of Yugoslavia would be much appreciated!

💭 Question Can You Recommend A Monograph On Tito, Yugoslavia, And/Or The Balkans in the 20th Century?
Hopefully this is an okay place to ask this; my apologies if not!
I just recently read a little something involving Tito, Yugoslavia, and the Balkans, and I'd like to bone up on it, as it's been a long time since I did any kind of deep dive into this area. Can anyone recommend any (preferably recent) monographs on Tito, Yugoslavia, and/or the Balkans in the 20th Century?

📸 Gallery / Images A photo of Tito and my Great Grandfather
Unfortunately I only have the picture of the photo, as the original is somewhere now in a storage. But as far as I know Tito is in the back and the man without a Hat is my Great Grandfather who was I think the mayor(?) of Bogdanci, now N.Macedonia.
No clue who the other person next to Tito is.
I believe there was an ongoing rebuilding project that Tito came to inspect at the time. We even had a big picture of Tito with other people from Bogdanci walking in a field hanging in the stairwell at my grandparents but that one is gone.
Would like to know more if people have more information about what the project was. I think this is somewhere early to mid 1950s. Unfortunately the people who remember are no longer here.

🗿 History Glumac iz Cedevitine reklame (1991.)
Pozdrav svima,
Hvala vam puno unaprijed!

📼 Video A Croatian-American family’s return to the region after decades abroad
I recently interviewed Anamaria, an American of Croatian descent who moved from San Diego to the Promina area of Croatia with her daughter.
Both of her parents were born in Croatia, while she was born and raised in the United States. Her story is part of an interesting pattern among families from the former Yugoslav region. One generation leaves and establishes a life abroad, then a child or grandchild begins looking back toward the place their family came from.
Anamaria’s move involved much more than simply buying a plane ticket. Her family shipped a 40 foot container from California containing belongings collected over roughly 40 years. It took more than 90 days to arrive, followed by additional delays at the port.
Croatian customs asked for proof that the family had genuinely been living in the United States and was relocating to Croatia. This included evidence of their previous address and a letter from the Croatian consulate confirming the move.
She also spoke about applying for Croatian citizenship after arriving, establishing residency, adjusting to life in a rural community and the difference between imagining life in Croatia and actually living there.
I found the generational side of her story particularly interesting. Although Anamaria grew up in America, Croatia remained part of her identity through her parents. Eventually, that connection became strong enough for her to move there and begin a new chapter with her own daughter.
I recorded the conversation for Croatian By Descent Community:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Epi03nJL4uA
Full disclosure: I help run the channel and interview people of Croatian descent about citizenship, family history and returning to Croatia.
Do any of you have relatives who left Yugoslavia and whose children or grandchildren later returned to live somewhere in the region? I would be interested to hear whether they felt immediately at home or experienced a cultural gap after arriving.

💭 Question Is it possible for there to be a rejection of the concept that in the infamous 90s wars they were truly good vs evil as opposed to wars with criminals on all sides
With the recent conviction of Hashim Thaci, presumably issues regarding accountability and culpability in the 90s Yugoslav wars, starting with the Bosniak/Croat/Serb wars of 1992-95 and the Kosovar-Serbian war of 1999, have been and will continue to be inflamed.
And it's self evident when discussing, for example, the 1992-95 wars, the premise that the most notorious war criminals from all ethnicities were exactly that - war criminals and not modern day Robin Hoods simply defending and advocating for their people. Radozan Karadzi, Ratko Mladic, Jadranko Prlić, Slobodan Praljak, Hazim Delic, Naser Oric, all of them likely have waves of supporters who will eagerly explain how they did nothing wrong and were just protecting themselves from those looking to slaughter them. Ditto for Hashim Thaci, Ramush Haradinaj, Vlastimir Đorđević and Nebojša Pavković in the 1999 Kosovar Serb war.
Is it possible for the premise that this is simply not true for any of these genuine war criminals and that universal accountability is needed? Or is the ethnic and national polarization and partisanship too deep and ingrained?

💭 Question What kind of references do you want to see in a game inspired by Yugoslavia?
Hi everyone, I am a solo dev making a narrative strategy RPG that takes place in a fictional state inspired by Yugoslavia. It has a demo out on Steam now. My goal is to display the kind of political struggles that took place in the 1980s, but also the cultural landscape of the region.
I have done a lot of reading to prepare for this game, but books miss the little things that people personally familiar with the history/region can say. What kind of things do you want to see represented? Good things about Yugoslavia, cultural artifacts everyone would remember? A slogan, a book, a song? The bad?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surdulica\\_massacre
O ovome nikad pojma nisam imao.

Pozdrav ekipa! 🌊🛵✨
