Discussion 🗣️ I'm getting super depressed because of AI

Ive been drawing since the age of 4 and I loved it so much, I even dreamed of becoming an animator.

Lately with people using ai to generate art/animation has made me feel what I do for fun has become obsolete. Everyone claims they can draw now because of ai, ai art is being implanted into memes, I have to teach my mom that the funny animation she saw isnt going to be in theaters because it was ai generated and not human made, its all so exhausting.

There was a food fair in my hometown and the amount of ai posters to promote their food was alarming, big companies have used it for their commercials/billboards, and recently in NYC comic con they used ai to generate one of their billboards. 🫩

I saw a trailer for a new Disney movie that was being promoted and I skipped thinking it was ai slop until I realized it was officially posted by Disney. How sad, I almost couldnt tell.

I've found myself drifting away from my drawing pad lately, havent drawn in months, and I love drawing...Always have. I'm unsure if this is dumb of me to say but its how I've been feeling lately...

What do you guys (especially artists) do to cope?

Preventing the Singularity Americans are packing town halls to stop data centers. It's working, for now. Locals have made developers drop billions of dollars in data center plans. They may have to win that fight again at the state level

Preventing the Singularity [Day 1] Drawing everyday until I get good

Post image

So I hear some people say "Well I'm not good at art, so I NEED Ai to help me."

My counter argument? I'm not good at art either, so to prove people can get good in time. I plan to make a drawing/doodle everyday until I get good at art. We'll see where this leads I guess =D

Discussion 🗣️ "Erm, actually you only hate GENERATIVE ai"

There have been several times where I've seen somebody say "I hate AI" only for someone else to come in like "Oh, so you hate video game npcs? There's actually a bunch of kinds of AI other than generative AI and blah blah blah."

I do think people should try to be specific with their words to get across exactly what they mean, but everyone knows good and well what that first person meant and "correcting" them is just pedantic and annoying.

AI "Art" 🖼️ VPUniverse.com, a small community of pinball fans officially supports AI per their release, i spoke out against it and was 'removed'

This is AI art i spotted in one of the virtual pinball releases. I spoke out against it, and was threatened, then they made a release that

Here is their statement:

Posted September 14

Hello Everyone,

Unfortunately, we seem to have a group of people who are against AI...

Not a single person in this hobby has to release anything at all... However, if a person chooses to use AI during their creation process they are free to do so... whether AI is used for code, models, images, or whatever they feel the need for. You don't like it... Who cares.  We don't...

I can tell you one thing.. AI is here, this hobby uses it... Many of our future releases are direct results from the use of AI.  If you are sooooo deadset against AI, then don't bother downloading anything required for this hobby.  All of our tools, simulators, emulators, and other software all have some kind of AI being used to create it.

We don't care that you don't like AI. Go find another site to complain on...

Discussion 🗣️ "AI is just a tool"

• Upvotes

Okay, so are guns. Sure, guns can have some non-harmful uses, such as for hunting under strict regulation, but let's be honest about what they're mostly used for: they kill people. This is why we regulate the purchase, ownership, and use of guns to reduce the harm they cause to humanity (at least in most places...). Do you ever see someone defend AI using this phrase while following it with "but the tool should be tightly controlled and regulated to reduce harm"? I haven't.

We're all familiar here about the dangers AI presents to humanity, but do the benefits really stack up to make it worth all the investment into it? Sure, it can be used to vibe code software full of security holes, it can brute force novel math problems leaving us with no greater insight or wisdom from the process, it may increase corporate productivity (super duper important at this point in history) at the cost of compute.

Every time the discussion with clankers boils down to "we just have to trust that the correct responsible people use it in good ways". Same bullshit rhetoric as "just gotta hope there are good guys with a gun" when school children get murdered almost every single day because there's too much money in arms sales. I have so little hope I'll ever see proper AI regulation and reduction in my lifetime, when in the most rich and "powerful" country in the world we can't even muster sane firearm regulation all thanks to capital influence

For all the "it's just a tool" bros, I say go ham. Have an AI girlfriend. Atrophy your skills. Don't ever improve on yourself in any meaningful way. Develop a mental disorder. Buy a gun. Be irresponsible. It's not like anyone's going to stop you.

Discussion 🗣️ 170 paid games released today on Steam. 80 used AI disclosure. 60/80 have 0 players.

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

After manually checking each game released today on SteamDB I discovered that 47% of these disclose AI usage. Many people simply do not disclose their AI use on Steam and I can say for certain that many of the remaining games released today also used AI images for their capsule or in game assets. I would feel confident saying more than half of the games uploaded to Steam use AI.

You can argue that AI assisted work flows help developers streamline their process and produce better products cheaper and faster, but almost none of these games are the result of that. Most of these games are complete garbage made by people trying to get a quick buck and are saturating the market from small team or solo developers who put care into their games.

I'm not a developer myself, nor do I even expect this information to cause any change. I just wanted to share the info to put perspective into how bad it has gotten on Steam.

Visiting Munich, the place is gorgeous but I couldn't go 20-30 minutes without seeing some absurd ai slop. This is actually fairly tame, the cheese looks poisonous, the fries look like cheese, and the fried shrimp looks like a raw sea creature.
