iOS Universal [iOS] [Watermelon Backup] [Lifetime IAP $7.99 → Free] [Back Up iPhone Photos to Your Own Storage Using External Drives, SMB, WebDAV, S3, or SFTP]

Hi, AppHookup!

I’m the developer of Watermelon Backup.

iPhone Photos take up most of the storage for me. I do have an iCloud plan, but after a few heart-stopping moments, I decided not to enable iCloud Photos and to manage my photos myself.

I had a Synology DS216play for years, and setting it up was not too difficult for me. But over time, the poor hardware became more and more slower.

Last 2 years, I bought a new device and started using unRAID to store all my photos and videos, and use a more powerful Mac mini to drive Immich and manage unRAID photo folder via External Library feature. Immich mobile is great, but it cannot backup photos directly to unRAID.

So I needed an app that could backup the photos from my iPhone while keeping the original files and metadata, without reducing image quality or removing EXIF data. Ideally, it should support background backups, not be tied to a specific brand or cloud service, perform well, and preferably be open source.

Eventually, I realized I probably needed to build the app myself. That’s how Watermelon Backup started.

---

Compared with other similar apps, Watermelon Backup tries to offer all of these things together:

  1. The code is open source, which I hope can reduce some concerns about the privacy of your photos and videos.
  2. It supports multiple storage nodes. A node can be an external drive, SMB share, WebDAV server, S3-compatible bucket, or SFTP server.
  3. Carefully design and implement in code, not a toy project.
  4. No Subscriptions.

---

Version 1.5.0 is a big update for Watermelon Backup, and it also has a new website:

https://watermelonbackup.com/

I spent about six full weeks working on the update and the website. The “design → code → test” loop went on and on, and honestly, I’m a little exhausted now. I would really like to get more feedback from users.

So the in-app purchase free for a limited time.

I am waiting for your all feedback, no matter good or not good.

Multi-Platform [MacOS/iOS] [Rainbow Craft + Rainbow of Desire][Pro → FREE with code, until Sep 30][Plan your week on Mac, catch 5-minute gaps on iPhone]

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
43 Upvotes

Likes and App Store reviews are a source of strength for solo developers.

Every planner I've used starts from an empty week. Seven blank columns, and you fill them with everything you want to get done. It looks doable every Sunday night, and by Wednesday it's clearly not. The week was never empty. Sleep, meals and work had already taken most of it before I wrote anything down. So I built the planner I wanted, as two apps that share one to-do list.

Rainbow Craft (Mac) is where you plan. It starts from the hours you can't take back. A week is 168 hours. Lay down sleep, meals, work and exercise as fixed routines, and it shows you what's really left. In my case it was about 46 hours, not 168. Then you drag your to-dos into that time.

Rainbow of Desire (iPhone) is where the day actually happens. You're away from the desk, you have five minutes, and you need to know what you can pick up right now.

How the two work together

Capture anywhere, plan at the desk. A thought on the street goes into the iPhone app or its Share sheet. When you sit down at the Mac, it's already in the list, ready to drag onto a day. Same list, two sizes of time. Break a to-do into steps and the app sorts each step as a fragment (something that starts cold and finishes in five minutes) or a block (something that needs protected time). Blocks go into your week on the Mac. Fragments show up on the iPhone's Lightning widget, which shows one step you can do right now. Checked off in one place, done in both. Finish a step on your phone in the elevator and it's gone from the Mac by the time you're back. Nothing is tracked twice. Two views of one week. The Mac shows how much free time is left. The iPhone's rainbow grid shows how crowded each day is, with overlapping plans in darker colors, so you can spot a crowded Thursday while you're still on the train.

On the Mac Fixed routines first, so free time is a real number instead of a hopeful one. Drag a to-do onto a day and it becomes a plan block. It snaps into a gap it fits, with "drop here: 14:00" under your cursor. Day view reads as one line, with gaps labeled ("1h 30m free"). Timer that asks for a "next first action" when you stop, so coming back is easy. Close tomorrow tonight. In the morning it shows just one first step. Daily check and weekly review. Routines like sleep and meals aren't checked, because you keep them, you don't achieve them.

On the iPhone Rainbow grid of your week's density, days by time of day. Steps with an order switch. Choose "in order" or "any order," and the list shows what's actually available now. Home and Lock Screen widgets: your top to-do, the Lightning step, and the rainbow. Share extension to add a to-do from any app.

Free vs Pro, plainly: planning, routines, to-dos, steps, the timer, reviews and iPhone–Mac sync are free in both apps. Pro unlocks the longer-range features. On Mac: 8-week trends, reusing another week's plan, exporting reviews and sharing your schedule. On iPhone: widgets, calendar import, sharing and stats.

- Pro is free this month with code SEPT. The two apps are separate on the App Store, so redeem both: Mac promo code more than 10000 (Rainbow Craft): https://apps.apple.com/redeem?ctx=offercodes&id=6777737322&code=SEPT

- iPhone promo code more than 10000(Rainbow of Desire): https://apps.apple.com/redeem?ctx=offercodes&id=6755280882&code=SEPT

I'd genuinely like to hear where it falls down. The thing I'm least sure about is the split itself. Does "plan on the Mac, grab fragments on the iPhone" match how you actually work, or do you plan and do everything on one device? Happy to answer anything in the comments.

iOS iPhone [iOS] [AmberTime - Offline Backup] [$4.99 -> Free Lifetime IAP] [Back up iPhone photos & videos directly to USB-C drives, completely offline]

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
97 Upvotes

Hey r/AppHookup,

A few months ago I built AmberTime — an app that backs up your Photo Library directly to USB drives, completely offline. I just shipped a massive v2 update and decided to make the Lifetime Premium unlock completely FREE for the next week to celebrate and get some early feedback.

(To claim: Just download the app and select the Lifetime unlock on the upgrade screen, which is currently set to $0.00!)

What's new in v2:

- Auto-sync all custom albums — automatically backs up all your custom albums the moment you plug in your drive, no manual selection needed.

- Built-in photo browser — browse backed-up photos directly in the app, organized like a native album view.

- Live Photo playback — view backed-up Live Photos with full motion, right on your drive.

- Multi-language — now available in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and German.

Core features:

- Works with any USB-C flash drive or SSD (Samsung T7, SanDisk, etc.) — not locked to a specific brand.

- Incremental backup — only copies what's new, so daily backups take seconds.

- Complete Live Photo backup (HEIC + MOV kept together).

- 4MB chunked streaming — handles 100K+ photo libraries without memory issues.

- Pause & resume — unplug mid-backup, continue right where you left off.

- Runs in the background.

- 100% offline, zero tracking, no account needed.

Why I built this: I wanted a dead-simple way to back up 50,000+ photos to a USB drive without trusting any cloud. iCloud costs money monthly, Google Photos compresses your files, and most backup apps either require proprietary hardware or an internet connection.

Normally $4.99 for a one-time lifetime unlock (no subscriptions ever). Free for the next week.

🔗 App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6760618605

🌐 Website: https://amber.reddash.app

I'm the solo indie developer behind this, so I'm happy to answer any questions about the tech or the app in the comments!

iOS Universal [iOS][Zwind - I built a WebDAV server for iPhone because I got tired of algorithm-controlled internet. RSS Projection, Web Projection, open resolver protocol][Web Media Projection Resolver $6.99 → FREE & more]

Thumbnail
zwind.app
38 Upvotes

Hi everyone — I’m back with another Zwind promo and bringing a new feature: the Web Media Projection Resolver.

This time I don’t just want to drop a promo link. I also want to explain why I built this thing in the first place.

The app is called Zwind. On the surface, it looks like a weird niche utility: “A WebDAV server for iPhone.” And honestly… it kind of is. Because almost nobody today thinks of phones as servers.

Phones became machines for doomscrolling, algorithmic feeds, notifications, platform hopping, and consuming content someone else controls. Our devices became more powerful than ever, but somehow they became less ours. That feeling started bothering me more and more.

Promo Offers

A lot of people from my last post asked me to continue building the resolver ecosystem, so I decided to run another large promo round.

And honestly: every purchase genuinely helps me continue building this weird anti-platform project.

  1. Web Media Projection Resolver $6.99 → FREE
    1. Redeem: Free Offer Code
  2. RSS Projection Resolver $6.99 → $0.99
    1. Redeem: RSS Resolver Offer
  3. VIP Lifetime $19.99 → $4.99
    1. Redeem: VIP Lifetime Offer
    2. VIP Lifetime unlocks:
      1. multiple simultaneous WebDAV servers
      2. lifetime access to future resolvers

I got tired of platforms deciding what I should see

The modern internet looks huge, but real freedom on the internet feels smaller every year. You think you're exploring, but actually algorithms decide what reaches you, platforms decide what survives, creators disappear because ranking changed, subscriptions became engagement feeds, and recommendations replaced discovery.

I started missing the old internet: the internet where you subscribed to your own RSS feeds, managed your own files, chose your own information sources, and your workflow belonged to you — not to recommendation systems, not to engagement optimization. So I started asking myself: what would a truly user-owned information gateway look like? That’s when I chose WebDAV.

Why WebDAV?

WebDAV is old. That’s exactly why I love it. Because it still represents something modern software abandoned long ago: openness. WebDAV fundamentally says: “Turn anything into a filesystem.” And filesystems are still one of the most universal interfaces humans understand: folders, directories, paths, mount points, copy, move, sync. Those concepts survived decades because they work.

So I started thinking: what if internet content itself could become a filesystem? That idea became the core philosophy of Zwind.

Zwind turns internet resources into filesystems

Inside Zwind, local storage can become WebDAV, cloud storage can become WebDAV, RSS feeds can become WebDAV, websites can become WebDAV, and remote resources can become WebDAV. Everything eventually becomes a virtual filesystem accessible through WebDAV.

Which means you can browse RSS from a file manager, stream subscription media directly from players, mount web resources into NAS workflows, and access content from any WebDAV-compatible client. Your phone quietly becomes your own information hub again.

Then RSS Projection changed everything

At first Zwind was mostly about sharing files. Then I realized the real problem wasn’t file transfer. It was information access. So I built RSS Projection. But I didn’t want “another RSS reader.” I wanted RSS to behave like infrastructure.

For example:

/Subscriptions/TechCrunch/
/Subscriptions/HackerNews/
/Subscriptions/YouTube/

Articles become files. Media becomes streamable resources. Feeds become mountable structures. And because everything is exposed through WebDAV, you can use players, file managers, sync tools, automation systems — whatever you want. RSS stops being trapped inside feed-reader UIs. It becomes portable again.

Then I went further: websites themselves became mountable

A lot of modern platforms don’t expose RSS anymore. No APIs. No export. No openness. So I built something much crazier: ZWMP — Zwind Web Media Projection Protocol.

This is probably my favorite part of the whole project. ZWMP is an open projection protocol that transforms arbitrary websites into virtual filesystem resources. Meaning a website can become folders, media collections, streamable files, paginated directories, and searchable resources — all exposed through WebDAV.

Even if the original website provides no API, no RSS, and no open protocol, projection rules can reinterpret websites into mountable resource structures. Chaotic modern websites can become something like:

/Media/
/Videos/
/Articles/
/Collections/

And because the protocol is open-source and extensible, people can build their own resolvers too. That part was extremely important to me. I didn’t want another locked plugin ecosystem. I wanted users themselves to reclaim parts of the modern web back into open infrastructure.

At that point Zwind stopped feeling like “an app.” It started feeling more like a user-owned interface layer for the internet.

What I’m actually trying to fight against

Modern software increasingly wants users trapped inside platforms, closed ecosystems, recommendation loops, and algorithmic walls. Zwind was designed in the opposite direction.

I want open protocols, local-first workflows, composability, interoperability, and user ownership. You don’t even have to use my UI. Use your own clients, your own workflows, your own automation stack. That’s real freedom to me.

“Everything is a filesystem”

Over time I realized something strange: most internet content is just resources, and resources can be filesystemized. RSS becomes folders. Websites become directories. Media becomes files. Subscriptions become paths. Resolvers become mount systems.

Once you start thinking this way, the internet suddenly becomes much simpler — and much more yours.

Zwind is still niche

I know most people see “iPhone WebDAV Server” and immediately think: “what kind of nerd tool is this?” Honestly, I like that. Because the people who get it usually understand immediately: this isn’t really about file transfer. It’s about reclaiming control over your information environment.

I don’t think Zwind is “finished.” Honestly it feels more like the beginning of a larger idea. Maybe the internet doesn’t need more platforms. Maybe it needs more open resource systems, more interoperability, more ownership, and more freedom.

At least now, I can finally browse the internet the way I want. Not how algorithms want. Not how platforms want.

My content. My gateway. My workflow. My internet.

Thanks for reading, and thank you to anyone who tries or supports Zwind.

Hey all!

I know this app is not for everyone, but I still wanted to share it — it was a fun way for me to experiment with iOS haptics.

I just made the lifetime free for a short time— grab it from within the app!

Backstory: this has been by far the most difficult app to pass App Store review, given the topic...

If you find it useful or interesting, a quick review would mean a lot — it really helps others discover it too.

And of course, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Drop a comment anytime!

Thanks for the support 🫶🏻

iOS iPhone [iOS][Ringtoner][Lifetime $9.99 to Free][Make custom ringtones for iPhone]

Thumbnail

I bought my mom an iPhone 2 years ago, and the first thing she asked me was: “How do I set my favorite song as a ringtone?” That’s when I realized a lot of people still find it complicated to make custom ringtones on iOS. So I ended up building Ringtoner, a small app to make it easier. With it you can:

  • Upload audio or videos to create ringtones you like
  • Extract audio from videos and set it as your ringtone
  • Turn any sound into ringtones, text tones, or alerts

• Meta • [Meta] The Epic Games Store for mobile games is now available for Android users worldwide and iPhone/iPad users in the European Union with support for third-party games. Their free mobile games program is live now with Bloons TD 6 and Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee being the first set of free games.

Download instructions and more info: https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/mobile (this store is separate from the Apple AppStore or Google Playstore and will have to be downloaded first). Requires iOS 17.6 or iPadOS 18 or later / Android phones running SDK 24 or later.

Bloons TD 6 and Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee are available to claim (and yours to keep) till February 20. Download the Epic Store app, open it and both games will be shown prominently under the “Free Games” section. It is not required to fully download the games to claim them, just hit install and then cancel the download to claim and Epic will email the receipt/proof of purchase after claiming the games.

Edit: As pointed out in the comments, these games are separate purchases for each platform so if anyone wants to get these for both iOS & Android then it is required to claim the games from Epic Store on both platforms.

A new set of games will be games will be made free after February 20th in all likelihood (like the weekly free games they have on PC). Though in yet another case of Epic launch tradition, the Epic mobile store is barely a store and only has barebones functionality right now (no library, no cart, no search function, etc.)

Epic has also stated that this store will be made available to Apple users in the United Kingdom and Japan later this year (these two countries have recently made similar rules as the European Union to allow third-party stores on Apple devices).

iOS iPhone [iOS - Universal] [Sloth Solitaire] [Free] [Celebrating iPhone release w/ 30 Promo Codes]

Hello fellow AppHookup fans,

Sloth Solitaire on the App Store

To celebrate the release of Sloth Solitaire on the iPhone I am posting a few promo codes so ya'll can check it out. While the iPad is a spatially better way to play Spider Solitaire, I have really been loving playing this version on the go with my phone. I hope everyone is doing their best out there, let's take care of one another.

My name is James Zaczkowski, I am a longtime member of AppHookup and have recently created my very first app called Sloth Solitaire. I learned to code just to make this app primarily because I couldn't find any Spider Solitaire apps on the App Store that had the functionality that I thought this classic, and my personal favorite, game deserved.

I've uncluttered the standard Spider Solitaire interface. Usually you will find distracting menus and worse of all advertisements haunting other Spider Solitaire apps. Normally, if you want to remove the ads you have to pay once, or worse still, pay a monthly fee to unlock items and get rid of in-game and post-game ads. So, no ads. Just a nice and relaxing place to play.

Some of the new features in this game are:

A two finger tap undo so that you don't have to open a menu or tap undo somewhere in the screen.

A two finger swipe that lets you quickly undo up to ten moves in a second or two.

Highlighting columns with either a red or green glow. Marking columns that are promising with green or King filled columns with red.

Color coded cards that allow you to quickly identify suits. This feature alone boosted my win percentage by over 25%.

Also cute sloths on the cards, congratulating you with heart-felt messages when you win, teaching you how best to play, and just generally everywhere. You can also unlock costumes for your sloth buddy by earning XP when you win.

The game is supported by one in-app purchase for 2.99$ that unlocks Highlighter, Swipe Undo, and the colored cards as well as two themes. But, I think, even without the in-app purchase the game is far more fun and relaxing then what Spider Solitaire players have come to expect.

Thanks for checking this out and here are 30 promo codes to unlock the premium features. Hopefully there are some fellow Spider Solitaire fans like me out there!

I'm also planning on creating versions of Klondike and Fan Solitaire with, hopefully, new features as well.

Have fun everyone, and be good to one another!

Promo Codes:

Sorry everyone, totally messed up and generated app promo codes instead of IAP promo codes. Here are the real things...wow new at this.
