Political Question Are Republicans inherently selfish?

Not referring to every individual obviously but as a whole, compared to democrats/independents they seem to really only care about themselves or their immediate family and pretty much have a “f**k em” attitude towards literally everyone else. Does anyone else feel this way?

This would explain why so many are against social policies but have no issue dumping much more money into the military instead, for example.

Republicans donate to charity more than democrats.

Ah, so they're donating to churches.

Btw have you seen that social experiment where churches denied baby formula to that single mother?

Yes and what do you think the churches do with the money? All over the country, they give away free groceries and hot meals to hungry and poor people, and they also provide free resources and treatment for people living on the street trying to beat their drug addiction. The reason you want to say donations to churches don’t count is because of your political bias and your self-image as a nice kind selfless person who is on the same team as all the other compassionate liberals, unlike those evil meanie selfish republicans.

Do some research. I’m not a conservative but this is the one thing I will give them. They definitely win when it comes to charities

Posted this elsewhere, but actually they do not. In fact, conservatives and those who attend church are much less likely to give to actual charities.

Did you even read your own source? It states in fact that conservatives do give more to charities

Despite being an atheist myself, I do occasionally volunteer and churches make up a huge portion of the soup kitchens, food banks, clothing closets, and resource centers in my metro area

*churches LMAO

The study literally concludes with “In sum, what we found in breaking down the donor population by ideology is that liberals are more likely to donate to nonprofits than conservatives.”

Church fundraisers don’t count

Nowhere does it say that Church fundraisers make up the majority of their charities but putting that aside for the moment, despite being an atheist myself, I do occasionally volunteer and churches make up a huge portion of the soup kitchens, food banks, clothing closets, and resource centers in my metro area

Look at all the hospitals and schools with the word "saint" in them. Who do you think started them?

Tax write offs dont count

8

u/-seabass 8h ago

All charitable donations can be written off.

u/pizzapit 7h ago

For this purpose a tax write off doesn't mean you gave from the goodness of you heart but for the tax deduction. Doesn't count.

You do realize that it isn't possible to receive more of a tax deduction than what the charitable donation is right?

Even if I am getting $2 back from the government, that doesn't make my $10 donation any less valuable. You could call it 20% less generous and you would actually be right in that, but 20% less generous is still generous.

Are you like 14 years old? Have you ever had a job or paid taxes? “Giving for the tax deduction” isn’t a thing. If you make a donation and write it off, you still end up with less money than if you kept the money and paid the tax on it. Because in order to not pay the tax on that money, i.e. write it off, you have to give it away.

All the ultra wealthy are Republicans because this party is all about preserving their privileges and never taxing them. They have more than they can spend in several lifetimes. Of course they're using some of it to curry favours and get good PR through donations, especially to their churches they can be fanatical about.
