MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Reminder: Christmas gift requests are BANNED on r/Assistance

Since the rule breakers are already here, just a reminder.

If this is your first holiday season at [r/Assistance](r/Assistance), here are some things to keep in mind:

We do not allow requests for Christmas gifts (or Hannukah gifts, or Kwanzaa gifts, or Yule gifts...)

There are subreddits dedicated to these requests so that our subreddit can remain focused on essentials. Which brings us to our next point...

r/RandomActsofChristmas is opening for the 2026 season on November 1, 2026!

This is the only subreddit we recommend for folks needing help making Christmas bright for their kids. They do AMAZING work every year, and they have the capacity to handle everything Christmas so our subreddit can focus on other more urgent situations.

Links to other Christmas gifting subs are forbidden and will be removed automatically. Efforts to bypass this will result in a ban.

Requests for Christmas travel and Christmas meals are allowed.

This year we want to put some focus on the heart of the holidays -- people rather than presents. Requests for travel to see family for Christmas, requests for a turkey dinner with friends -- these can be requested without issue.

Christmas/Holiday Offers

While we don't allow requests for Christmas/holiday gifts in [r/Assistance](r/Assistance), we will continue to allow **offers** of gifts, meals and other holiday-related cheer so our givers who want to give here in [r/Assistance](r/Assistance) can do so.

Some examples:

- "Help me buy Christmas gifts for my family" -- not allowed

- "Want to go home to X for Christmas" -- allowed

- "Let me order your family Christmas dinner" -- allowed

- "Will buy a Christmas gift for your child up to $20" allowed

A reminder that unless an offer is explicitly for Christmas requests, **the same rules apply.** If you are posting an offer over the holiday season, please help our mod team out by letting us know if it's essentials only or if folks can request gifts.

REQUEST Please help me survive and escape my home after facing SA from my dad and brother

Hello guys,
I’m writing this after running out of all other options. I’m 26 arab girl who has been sexually abused by her dad and older brother I filed a report against them but law here doesn't really acknowledge or deal with sexual abuse properly

I’m not allowed to leave the house or get a normal job, but last week I actually found a remote job as an online arabic teacher. Unfortunately, my laptop screen is completely broken. I can take pictures to show you how damaged the screen is and it’s old so it's a waste of money to replace the screen

So please guys I need $605 to buy a new laptop and a good headset so I can start this teaching job
I don't know if it's that expensive but this is the cheapest option I can find here and maybe one day I can finally run away and share my success story

I am really desperate and this is my last chance to get my life and dignity back.

Thank you.

REQUEST Looking to get something warm to eat on a cold day.

• Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m sorry to even have to ask here… again… but living in a small town has very little resources for the homeless…

I’m looking just for like $15-$25 bucks to get something warm to eat for myself, and I’ll be sharing with my dog.
Yes, I know getting rid of the dog would be “cheaper” however the psychological benefit of not being alone is well worth sharing my food. I do have a job, just one of the many MANY people who are underemployed, not making enough to live on…

Whatever you can spare really. I don’t have a set amount… my town doesn’t have a Ubereats or grubhub or anything like that. Basically just a couple smaller mom and pop places, and a few chain fast food places.

I have cashapp, and PayPal.

To anyone who helps, or reads this… thank you so much.

REQUEST Urgent help needed to rebuild our home

We recently found a serious mold issue in our home and had to demolish half of it. The kitchen and the entire basement, which was fully finished before, needed to be gutted and torn apart to address the mold. We put all of our life savings into it but cannot continue anymore. Our basement once had the playroom, the second bathroom, our bedroom, my husband’s game room and the laundry room and now only the game room and the bathroom and part of our bedroom has been rebuilt. We need flooring for the entire basement, more insulation and drywall. We need kitchen cabinets and countertops. I figured I would share our gofundme here. We have 3 kiddos and desperately just want to be able to make our house a home again.

I appreciate everyone for taking a look and helping if you can.

REQUEST Need help paying for storage unit.

I need help paying for my storage unit. I had two surgeries in August, a tooth extraction and a strangulated hernia fix that put me out of commission and unable to work (I do mostly freelance work, but also supplement my income by helping with odd jobs, mostly handyman type stuff and helping people move) for close to 7 weeks. With especially the the hernia surgery, I was unable to do any of that until basically right now. I had a phone call with a caseworker that I connected with through the hospital that might be able to help me with my phone bill/food/hospital bill, but she is not sure if it can cover storage units. I have a follow up call on Monday

I have a storage unit because I am essentially homeless. My mother is in HUD housing and I moved back up to be her caregiver, but the building will not allow me to live there until I am officially her caregiver, which is a process that we started in May and are still waiting for me to be certified (I've completed all the tasks, the company just has not responded to our calls or emails). So I have all my stuff still in storage until I officially can move it in, and have been sleeping in various places until it gets sorted out.

The total amount after convenience fees is about $484 for September and October, but I have $260 after fees that needs to be paid before the 18th I believe before they add on a lien fee of $110 to my account. They do not accept partial payments or payment plans, even with documentation from the hospital that I did have the surgery.

So either $260 or $484 would be a massive help.

I have paypal, venmo, and cashapp.

Please help if you can.

REQUEST Help Me Move Out of An Abusive Household

Hello, I'm a university student in the Philippines who's finally planning to move out of my parents' house after years of abuse so that I can be safe before planning any action against them. I'm in the process of finding myself a better job there (likely as a barista) as well as planning out all the necessary things to get out safely by December. For this, my friend in America has set up a Gofundme for the funds needed for the trip. If you can't donate, simply sharing this will help out a lot.

The funds will go mainly into funding the trip, settling into whatever room I can find there as well as any other expenses while I get used to the new life by myself in the city. Thank you for your time.

REQUEST Help needed for vet care

Hi,

I’ve never done this before but I’m desperate at this point. I’ve been out of work since August on short term disability and I’m supposed to get 70% pay on it. But there’s been delays in paperwork and filing so I’ve only gotten one paycheck since I went on disability and it doesn’t look like I’m getting paid again till the end of the month.

My kitten just broke out in some type of reaction all over his head and ears and mouth and I’ve maxed out my savings trying to cover everything since I went out. I thought I’d be paid today but I didn’t receive anything. I’m scared he’s allergic to something but I don’t have any money to pay for the vet. I tried looking into cash advances or temporary lines of credit but because of the gaps in my paychecks I can’t get approved for anything. This is my last resort. It shouldn’t be more than 200 max for his vet visit, he just got his one year shots a few weeks ago but he hasn’t had the booster yet.

REQUEST Struggling with no end in site

Hi,

I’ve been unfortunately made unemployed with fixed term contract ending in July. I’m on JSA and have had interview after interview. I keep being told I was second best and have 2 more lined up next week. Even trying to get casual or retail work has proven hard and I’m getting daily rejections.

I’m managing to survive using food banks with many mouths to feed, though I have nothing and no idea how I’ll manage Novembers bills without something soon.

The higher cost items, toiletries and pet care, is really making life a struggling.

If anyone could assist with personal care items or cat supplies, I’d be forever grateful and keen to repay the favour when employed.

Thank you in advance.

REQUEST FULFILLED Stuck with a flat

Went to take son to school this morning to find out my back driver side tire was totally flat.. I have an air pump in my trunk.so went to air it back up but nothing was happening and heard air escaping. So guess tire is just done but don't have a spare and so just stuck here. I am a single dad on SSDI and try to Doordash or Spark for extra income but obviously can't do that in this situation.

Have been calling around and can't find any used tire places with my tire size but Walmart has one in stock near me for $52. If anyone could help out I would be greatly appreciative. Just feeling trapped and desperate not knowing what to do.....

REQUEST Rental assistance

My hours at my job were recently cut due to labor hours (love working fast food), and my check this week was a lot less than I was expecting. I'm $80 short on a payment arrangement I have with my landlords to pay rent today. I know, I'm sorry this is super late. I don't see my paystub until after my check deposits, or I could've better prepared for this.

REQUEST Water shut off

Hello, I’m reaching out in the hope that I can get some assistance with my water bill. It was shut off today and I need to pay $647 to turn it back on. I will have half of that in the morning but I need help with the rest. Unfortunately I am disabled and unable to work. I’m back in school to hopefully get a job that I will be able to do with my disability. I have kids that need to have running water. This is 100% my fault I thought I paid the water bill but after looking at what I paid I realized I paid twice on my electric bill and totally skipped the water bill. Because of my medications I often forget things and/or get confused. I’m hoping to get $347 to cover what I can’t. I do not have Cash App or Venmo, just Zelle and PayPal. Thank you for reading my post.

REQUEST Single Income Father of 4 Post Middle Fascia Craniotomy Seeking Help

After years of (SSCD) Superior Semicircular Canal dishesonece, i had a Middle Fascia Craniotomy to correct it. The process has went well but the recovery time of 6-8 Weeks has me fearful about the security of my family of 4 and my wife and I. Me and my wife have little to no family due to being raised by DHS. My wifes church has helped us greatly by catering our dinners for the past week.

It was my wifes friend who suggested starting a GoFundMe. I've never been in this position before and worried.

Seeking help, Even just ways to have it gain more traction would be very useful.

REQUEST Kiddo and I are in need of help.

Hi, I know many people are struggling right now but I’m hoping someone is able to help us. We are located in wisconsin. A position got cut at work so I’m struggling to have enough hours. I’m behind on rent and having a hard time getting everything we need. I have an Amazon list if anyone is able to help purchase things. I listed the link to it. If someone is able to help with rent I can provide accounts I have. I’m behind $2,600. I’m only mentioning the amount because when I tried to post it said I had to include the amount. Thank you.

Edit: to the people complaining about my expensive items, I have a lot of allergies and Mast cell activation syndrome. I react to many common ingredients. This is the only detergent I can use that doesn’t cause hives, anaphylaxis, rashes, severe itching that Benadryl doesn’t help, etc. if I could use cheaper detergent, I would. I react to a lot of scents/chemicals so I have to use more natural and unscented things. Same with fabrics. Some make me break out in hives. I’m also autistic and can’t wear certain things without panicking. That’s why I have selected the items I did, because my body can tolerate them. $15 detergent is cheaper than an ER bill for anaphylaxis or a funeral if said anaphylaxis kills me.

REQUEST Negative 300

Hi reddit friends. I'm going through a particularly rough time right now. I lost my (fulltime) job last year, was on unemployment but that ran out while looking for an equivalent position. Now I've been working a few part time positions more recently but got myself in a shit situation before I got them.

I live with my mom who has alzheimers and even with IHSS pay I'm deeply in debt. I'm in the reds right now and would appreciate support from this community.

LMK if you're able to contribute to the cause. I can share proof of hardship

Thanks in advance. Going to prep for a lesson- wish me luck!

REQUEST FULFILLED Request - Need $25 for gas to get to work

i just found out about this sub so i hope i am doing this right.

i am in need of $25 so i can get to work this afternoon. i am a single parent of 3, i get paid tomorrow. gas is approx $4.60/gal and my job is 45 minutes away on a good traffic day and approximately an hour and twenty minutes on a usual traffic day.

i asked 4 coworkers if they could spot me but 2 don’t have it [we get paid tomorrow], the third only has cashapp, which i dont have and the forth has cashapp or zelle but my bank account is negative so that won’t help.

i am an RN and cannot miss work; first because my coworkers need me and it’s not safe for the patients when they are understaffed and secondly, i just cannot afford to miss a shift. losing out on over $200 over $25 is just devastating and depressing.

here’s a pic of my empty gas tank. i can provide more information if needed.

i only have Venmo.

thanks for your time.

REQUEST FULFILLED I need help with my dog's vet care and food $31

For the past few days, my little dog Copito has been trying to vomit after eating; I tried changing her food, but I didn't see any improvement. She seems very lethargic and clearly unwell, so I decided to take her to the vet to see if it might be a stomach issue. To be honest, though, I only have $20 left in my bank account, and the cost of the vet visit alone exceeds that amount. I spoke briefly with the vet on the phone, and the consultation fee is $28; depending on the diagnosis, I might also need to buy soft food for Copito. I don't know the cost of soft food since I've never had to buy it before, but I hope or at least assume it isn't too expensive. I usually buy her regular food for just under $23, so I imagine the soft food costs something similar. Even using the money I have in the bank which I know isn't much I’m still short by $31, which is money I simply don't have right now.
