If you were buying a high end custom game table, what would you buy today?
First things first. By high end, I mean willing to spend ~$7k to $12k all in for a 6 person all wood table and chairs (84” x 48” is our ideal). We want this to be the last game table/matching chairs we ever have to buy.
Unless folks onsite can vouch that things at Wyrmwood are no longer toxic, they are not in the running for consideration. No matter how beautiful they may be.
Don’t want medieval distressed and don’t want mid century modern. We want to be able to pick the wood and stain. Prefer cup holders as attachments on rails, not built into the table edge. Open to drawers, fold out, or other options for individual players to organize their game components. We have a dedicated game room so this isn’t our main dining table but want the option to take a break and put a topper on for eating/snacking.
Given the price point we’re willing to pay, looking to work with a business vs hobby woodworker (unless you have a registered business or a whole collection of tables you’ve created and customer references to share). We live in the Midwest so are unlikely to consider anything from overseas unless the freight shipping is reasonable.
Being direct about our preferences because my searches have yielded so many threads where everyone’s response is, “it depends on what you want”. 😊
ETA: we have looked at several websites and BGG’s board game table list. Would love to hear from folks who actually have a custom table and what they love/wish was different about it. Allplay makes a table that meets many of our requirements but I haven’t been able to find that many reviews of a custom build from them (vs the Jasper or Jasmine).

For chairs, unless you’re 100% dead set on matching, I’d go with a different manufacturer than the table.
We went to 4 or 5 different furniture stores to find our chairs because we really wanted something that was comfortable. I’ve also heard of people going with gaming chairs or office chairs. We brought cup holders from our table to be able to compare colors, and ended up going with something contrasting the table.
Your table has all your bells and whistles, the chair needs to be able to withstand long gaming sessions, and finding one that can without the ability to test it out is extremely difficult.

Gaming chairs are not the move even for video games. The stereotypical gaming chair design was started for racing simulators to simulate a car seat, now it's just a gimmick to sell a lower quality overpriced chair marketed as a gaming chair because people associate that design with gaming, but it's way worse than a regular office chair. The only special chair you need for gaming is one designed to be comfortable and healthy for your back sitting at a desk for longer periods of time, this is what office chairs are designed for. A high end office chair like Herman Miller or Steelcase is the move

u/JJMcGee83 Mar 03 '25
This is the truth. I bought a steelcase shortly after the pandemic started when and I was given the order to work from home. It was worth every penny, it's comfortable, was adjustable so I could get it to fit me perfectly and sturdy. It's 5 years old and you'd never know it by looking at it.

u/Late2theParty2022 Mar 03 '25
I hear that, re: chairs and comfort. We have an Amish furniture store that made our bedroom furniture, so that’s an option. But finding a table manufacturer is the key and then from there we’d judge whether to get chairs from the same place or not (I included chairs just to give a sense of price point all in).

Unfortunately I can’t help you on the table. Ours is a Wyrmwood, purchased and delivered before any of the toxicity came out.

Would it matter if things improved? So long as the original owners are there, along with that Bobby guy, I would never give them a cent of my money.

Not sure if that was directed to me. In any event, I’m always willing for people to learn and grow from mistakes. I read the threads when they came out and a couple updates recently — I’m happy to be proven wrong, but it still doesn’t seem like much has changed. My husband feels similarly.

If you’re looking to spend this much - you should really consider nice office chairs. You can’t beat them for comfort and ergonomics.

I’m building my own version of this. Letting the wood cure right now before I have a go at it. Took all of the measurements, have the tools and a willing father-in-law to assist me. I’m with you. It’s the best looking table on the market imo. But I couldn’t justify the cost. Got all of the wood for it (hard maple) for less than $550. I’m basically copying the exact design and saving myself $5,000.

Have you thought about commissioning someone local to build you one?
You can pick what features you like with each table and have it built how you want.
That's the route we are going. Or if you are reasonably handy it's not too difficult to build.
I am not a huge fan of all the sunken tables that are trending.
I would love to be able to have a height adjustment to be able to adjust for playing with kids or shorter players, and to have the center be adjustable as well.
Not something I have seen on any table yet.
Best of luck to you. Let us know when you get your new table so we can all drool over it.

The Prophecy by Wyrmwood has a recessed center that can be raised to be level with the edges, but they're a shitty company, so do with that what you will.

Yep. That’s why I said in my OP that Wyrmwood is not under consideration.

We are not handy although my husband questioned aloud whether he should take up woodworking (no, he won’t. He already has multiple stations for painting minis).
We get this suggestion a lot but never anything concrete. We’ve been searching and asking around, even going to Amish stores. No dice so far.

Check out your local flea markets or craft shows.
We have a woodworker at our flea market that makes all kinds of stuff.3
u/Danimeh Mar 03 '25
Could also be worth trying a local Mens Shed if they have access to them. My friend’s retired dad loves a good project and he’d find designing and making a good quality table a satisfying way to spend his time, especially if there was no immediate time pressure.

I spent alot of time in research 2 years ago and after a lot of consideration I purchased the Rathskellers Sunnygeeks modular table. It was an investment for sure including taxes shipping and import duties came to roughly around 6000 cad. I was blown away by the shipping, not a scratch or thing out of place due to being very well packed, build quality is amazing and it’s beautiful to look at. The way you can switch compartments around with magnets It awesome. You can use it as a dining table with the leaves on. I also love that you can just set a game up and leave it if you want, just throw the leaves on. I very much recommend and if you are interested they are doing a new campaign on gamefound soon. If you have any questions about it or want to see pics let me know.

Whatever table my wife says, then I buy a gaming mat to put on top of it. The ultimate gaming table was crap and the money for a ww doesn't seem worth it for all the drama and production problems. So whatever she says and boom any neoprene cover for everything else.
20
u/BillionTonsHyperbole Mar 03 '25
I'd find a local woodworker and commission something if I had ten grand or so to burn on a table. I'd do this to 1) support a local craftsperson and 2) have enough inputs on the design and construction to make it one-of-a-kind and sufficient for my gaming needs.
Personally, there are some old black walnut trees on the family farm that my brother now owns; I'd want a table made from one of those and some osage orange wood from the property for sentimental reasons.
2
u/Late2theParty2022 Mar 03 '25
We are definitely all about supporting local—we’ve gone to local stores and even the Amish to see if they would do it. But everyone says to find a local woodworker and we never have any specific recs sent our way. 😕 I’m also not really willing to have a woodworker have us be their test case to make accessories and things like that—we don’t need a crank necessarily like Wyrmwood has on the Prophecy, but we like the rail system concept.
12
u/Mo0man Mar 03 '25
Unfortunately, you're not going to be able to find specific recs about local woodworkers on an international subreddit, and custom furniture is a relatively niche market, so it's pretty hard to find specific local recommendations as well.
2
u/GriffinFur Gloomhaven Mar 03 '25
We found a local woodworker who has done a bunch of gaming tables. We saw him at PAX West, and were able to see an example of a table in person and talk with him for awhile. It's been a great process with lots of back and forth communication and we're getting exactly what we want.
Maybe check out local or nearish-by conventions? Don't even have to necessarily go, just look at the exhibitor list and see if there are any table makers you can reach out to.

He's out of Portland, but drove up and hand delivered and setup our table when it was done - we're on the Eastside. He was in tons of contact with us via email from start to finish, showing us plans and mockups, then in progress pictures. His name is Jordan Saia of Tiny Shed Custom Furniture. It's expensive, but worth it to us to have an absolutely gorgeous and functional table we'll be able to pass down generations.

We have a geekchiq table, from what I understand many of their craftspeople moved to create Band Pass Design. I haven’t seen their tables myself, but their website looks nice. We also have a Carolina Game Tables coffee table. It’s very nice. We don’t use it as a game table as much as we thought we would, but it’s a fantastic coffee table and their support was excellent when it was slightly damaged during delivery. I still see them at conventions, it looks like they’re still making great stuff.

u/bctopics Mar 03 '25 edited Mar 03 '25
Without writing a book about it, the main problems are the actual tables don’t look like the pictures do. Colors are majorly off and many of us had issues with the toppers being fairly damaged / not matching.
My main frustration is how cheap the accessories feel. Outside of the actual metal table the accessories are all very breakable, and the toppers are incredibly easy to scratch (they scratch with board game boxes).
It’s also very difficult to put on and off the toppers.
Overall we do use it every week, I just think it was advertised as a high quality modular table that can kind of transform into whatever you want which we’ve found not to be the case.
It’s also been years and we’re still receiving pieces every few months, it seems atleast the US based delivery was severely under stocked.
To be clear I’ve talked with the owner of the company and they are very nice / try and work with you. Just the wait combined with the flaws of the first version is just not worth it imo.
For what it’s worth they have a second version that seems to fix some of the issues I mentioned.
4
u/organicHack Mar 03 '25
Yeah get non-matching chairs. Deliberately. Then, you can always change the chairs in future decades to update the style (if you care) without having to feel like you need to update the table.
6
u/Borghal Mar 03 '25
Have you played at such a table already? If not, maybe do that first.
I find it's an acquired taste at best. It sounds like the ultimate gaming equipment, or so I thought before I actually got to try out a few (I can only remember Rathskellers by name, but there were more). Being able to pause a game and play another one is the _only_ advantage I was able to find, and that's such a niche case to me that it's not worth all of the downsides.
The main elephant in the room I rarely see peopel talk about is that while a table to play games on should first and foremost provide ample space with easy access, such a table actually offers substantially less space for games than a regular table and obstructs the game somewhat, providing a subpar experience.
- The edge makes the playing space a lot smaller - around 30% less than the table's footprint!
- You can't have the edge too thin or it'll be uncomfortable to rest your hands on the edge - but even with a 20cm edge it still kind of is uncomfortable anyway
- The rail addons designed to compensate for that 30% lost space make the tables footprint even larger, meaning you might have to reach quite a bit further to reach your game, and they can get in the way more than things on a table would
- The playing space being depressed makes you have to reach just a little bit farther, which compounds with the above
Maybe some people feel otherwise, but for me the rail addons feel like compensating crutches rather than improvements - we use a 95x180 table and rarely have issues having both a game, snacks and drink on the table at the same time. And all that stuff that you can see on the promo photos of the tables, you can just put on that normal table using that 30% you have extra... and we've spilled a drink ONCE in 20 years of gaming, but ymmv if you drink a lot of alcohol I guess :-)
Ultimately these aren't any huge issues I suppose, but for me it feels like paying exhorbitantly more money to get less versatility, and that just feels wrong, as pretty as these tables can be. Regular tables can also be pretty, anyway.

u/Late2theParty2022 Mar 03 '25
My husband is a big board gamer and so yes, he has. He plays his Gloomhaven campaign on one. I’m the late to the party board gamer after meeting him a couple years ago. 🙃 We tend to play a lot of cooperative games but he’s the one with regular game nights at our house—I play occasionally.
2
u/rbnlegend Mar 03 '25
The edge makes the playing space a lot smaller - around 30% less than the table's footprint!
I don't know what tables you have seen, but my table is 42 inches across, and of that 5 inches (total, 2.5 per side) is rail space. Very rarely, we leave the tabletop on to be able to use the extra 5 inches, but that's very rare and the option is there.
I am not a fan of the cupholders, built in or otherwise. I bump into them more often than I would like, and there's plenty of space on the table for a cup.
1
u/Borghal Mar 03 '25
The one table I remember seeing by name, the Rathskellers Councilor:
https://rathskellers.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/COUNCILOR_CATALOG_2021_2022.pdfThe example they give in the sizing guide is that for a 200x110cm table, you get a playing space of 176x86cm. That's 22k vs 15k cm2, i.e. 30% smaller / 50% bigger.
And besides that difference, just on absolute terms, 86cm width can be pretty cramped for many games. I would never go under 90cm for a gaming table, ideally 95-100.
3
u/sfw_pants Mar 03 '25
So we bought ours from Allplay back when they were just boardgametables.com. We've had it for over 7 years at this point so I'm not even sure it's the same table anymore, but for what it's worth it's still going strong. We have the massive lift-off lid that's not convenient for everyone, but we have space to stash it during game nights, and there's no seams in the cover. We also have slide out drawers and cupholders rather than rails. I guess we technically have the custom build because I think that's all they had at the time? I can answer more questions if you have specific ones
2
u/Late2theParty2022 Mar 03 '25
That sounds a lot like what we’ve been looking for at with their customer build option (vs the Jasper or Jasmine). Are you happy with the quality and finish of the wood? Is it holding up over time or showing a lot of wear and tear? We really liked the drawer option—do you feel like they get used during gaming or do you only use them for storage?
1
u/sfw_pants Mar 03 '25
Yeah they are mostly storage. In addition to board games we play a lot of ttrpg, so players keep pencils and character sheets in their drawers. The table survived a house move reasonably well, has a few dings and scratches due to age, but I think it has held up. My only complaint about the finish is probably the decorative divot in the topper. It looks beautiful but collects dust like crazy. I have considered filling it with resin but I'd have to sand and restain. I'm not sure if the current model would still have the divot.
The table and the topper are both incredibly heavy, so the quality feels good. I can take current pictures to show you wear and tear. There's a few places of heat damage too, but that was our fault.
It did come unassembled, but it was less work than most flat pack furniture. Add 4 legs and install the drawers/cup holders and that's it.

u/AdventJer Apr 27 '26
Im actually looking for a board game table and have been searching for a while now. ive come across the jasper and wondered when I came upon this reddit thread. curious to know what table you ended up going with? the main issues im finding is the dinning topper being scratched easily or just cheaply made. I feel if im spending $1500 on a game table it should be of good quality and last many many years.
2
u/rbnlegend Mar 03 '25
Sounds like we got the same thing, or very close. We have drawers and a rail for cupholders. The big one piece lid is somewhat awkward, but entirely usable. We lean it up against the mantle of the fireplace when we use the table, which is fine because we've never lit a fire in the fireplace.
2
u/OtterScript Mar 04 '25
This is the route we went and I am so happy with ours. My wife wanted a farmhouse looking table (breadboard topper and central support instead of legs) so this was one of the few ways to get it. The table is so solid and even though the table topper is heavy, it is easily lifted off with two people and I don’t have to worry about spills since it is a solid piece (our toddlers are always spilling things on it)
3
u/lucigen Spirit Island Mar 03 '25
First off, good luck. This is a really hard problem to solve. I have the WW Wargaming MGT which came out before all the drama, and I used to be friends with several people that worked there. Most of them have left, I fully support your mindset on not working with them, thank you for paying attention and holding them accountable.
If I were doing it again, I'd contact a local shop or build my own. I continue to look at tables at conventions and have never seen one I'd actually want to buy. It's so frustrating, I'm sorry there's not an easy answer. I'll put some design thoughts and considerations below in the hopes that it's helpful. I'd like to note that my group generally hates phones. We look at them enough for work, we are very pen-paper oriented when it comes to games. My game room is also a dedicated game room, gets used about 2x per week for dnd, campaign, and normal games
Vault: generally something I like. Planning to fill in with solid neoprene (very hard to cut straight btw). Can cause clearance issues with chair heights if you go with wood chairs.
Removable Top: Generally annoying to actually use. We just use plates inside the vault for eating dinner on a pause because it takes too long to assemble the massive topper. We do occasionally use when we have a campaign game that had to stop mid-way, and have some other event happening before the campaign hits a save-able stopping point
Rails: We only use cupholders really. Love that they can slide around to accommodate any number of players. We have some trays for components but most of the time the game has a custom organizer that handles 90% of component organization
Dimensions: This is really hard. I like the wargaming one because we can sit 2 people on the short end, and have often done so. I also build dnd maps that are on removable 2x3 sheets, and we can place those in the middle and folks can still have a full character sheet in the vault in front of them. Most non-game tables are much too thin to be practical. Also, make sure you can move your table into the space. The MGT was so attractive in part because it breaks into pieces, and I had a weird stairway to get up to my game room.
Lighting: Anything in the table is a gimmick. Anything electronic is a gimmick actually
Adjustable surface height: gimmick
Player desks: We just use the table, no need
Useful Mods:
DM Platform: I had a custom DM screen made with a platform that fit inside the rail and then supported itself on the table, flush with the table rail, effectively extending it past the 3-4" to fit whole sheets of paper. Now, I had some quality issues with that too and I'll be making a new one but that worked really well. Important to me removable for normal board games. Note, I do use a chromebook on this platform for app based games.
DM Cabinet: I also have a cabinet off one leg that offers the DM the opportunity to store books, small maps (big maps have their own storage solution), and miniatures they want to keep hidden. This was a custom build from me, really happy with it. It also extends the table rail and DOES have a built in cup holder since when it's in use, you know where the person is sitting. It too is removable in case we need to put 2 players on that end too.

I ordered the Sunnygeeks 1.5 by Rathskellers on Gamesfound. Took about 2.5 years for fulfillment, but I love the table.
There's no way I'd be OK with a) waiting nearly three years for something I ordered and b) having to give the manufacturer my money in advance.
I could kind of cope with a 3 year wait list if it was something crazy, but having them hols into thousands of pounds for years is crazy to me. I'd rather pay more to buy one now or pay in three years when it's ready.

I would find a local furniture maker and get a commission. I build furniture as my job and would love to be commissioned for something like this and the result would be excellent (likely better than something built on a production line such as Wyrmwood). I am not even nearly local to you but I am sure that there is someone who is.

We have a table from uniquely-geek and love it. I like how they will build a custom size, they have lots of wood and leg options, drawers, reversible insert for multiple playing surfaces, it's totally customizeable. They will send you a wood sample or two to help decide, and we took the sample with us to the Amish furniture store to perfectly match some chairs. They would be right in your price range too for anything they build except likely the Legacy, which runs a bit more money. Relatively speaking.

Currently in the production queue for our Uniquely-geek.com table. The design process was very straight forward, chose our preferred wood and stain, ,chose the edging style (farmhouse, rustic, ect.)
Ultimately went with them because we really wanted the trestle base so we can avoid the corner post legs.

For Uniquely geek, maybe. It really depends on a couple of things.
If the place you order from has the tables in stock waiting to be purchased, it will be LOTS cheaper. U.G. is make to order, and you definitely pay for that.
Any customization from a standard product gets very pricy, very quickly.
U.G. is made-to-order, custom designed, one off, solid hardwood. So they are pricey, but that's what you're paying for.
If you don't get carried away in the design, I'm pretty sure you can get a 6 person under 10k.

I also am not a fan of Wyrmwood, and would probably spend my money at UniquelyGeek instead.

I rarely post on Reddit so just wanted to say thanks to the many people who weighed in with their thoughts. We hit decision fatigue but that may have been a silver lining—we just serendipitously stumbled upon a local woodworker in our relatively small town who, based on initial interactions, may be able to build exactly what we’re looking for. Fingers crossed!

We ended up choosing a local Amish woodworker we found over the local hobby woodworker I had mentioned here. While the hobby woodworker was excited to do it, it was clear it was very much going to be an experiment for him. He also had a lot of strong opinions on the type of woodwork he liked to do (live edge, no staining) that didn’t mesh as well with our opinions. We respected his opinions but we didn’t want to find ourselves locked into a battle during the process, especially not at this price point.

I love the idea of a tv for running the Dark Tower app. Do you actually have the app running on the TV, or is it being cast from your phone? If it’s being cast from your phone, if it’s someone else’s turn, do you just pass the phone around or have the person running the game just handle it all?

u/Late2theParty2022 Mar 03 '25
My husband has an iPad or computer we use to cast all of our games that have a video app. He also backed the Teburu game system on Kickstarter (which is awesome btw) and for that everyone uses their phone or a tablet as their gaming device plus he still uses his iPad or computer to cast to the TV.

I have nowhere to put one but my minimum size is whatever the eclipse mat is (I think 100cm?) +40cm for a player board either side.
Other than that don’t care. Felt nice but I’ll play on wood no problems. Drink holders look dumb but probably worth it to reduce spill issues.

Not a petfect match for what you want, but I went for a Carolina gaming tables dining table with no cuphulders.

I used Wheatland Woodwork, he's totally custom and ships intentionally if you need it.
His email communication is.... Bad..... But the quality is there when you do get your product.

We bought the last round of this kickstarter and the table has been fantastic. They just launched a second KS with a second design available. We got the Monarch in espresso. This is like the heaviest piece of furniture I've ever had to lift!

One feature my table has that I haven't seen in any others which I really like, Adjustable play surface height. My table can convert from vaulted to flat. Some games you really don't want the vault for and it's just nice to play on a flat albeit padded surface.

u/Late2theParty2022 Mar 03 '25
Is that the Wyrmwood Prophecy table? Or something else?
2
u/mousicle Mar 03 '25
I had mine done by a local guy McFadden in Ontario don't know if they still make them this was like 6 years ago. I don't have the fancy crank mechanism they just added a wooden "craddle" that you pop in that the playing surface sits on if you want the flush top instead of the vault.

I don't have a gaming table, so I can't speak to the actual product, but I have met Jodi Black of Carolina Game Tables and she was/is an absolutely delightful person. I would not have any qualms about purchasing a table from her if I was in the market.

u/therealchrismanahan Mar 03 '25
I currently have a Game Theory table and would not buy another. I've had it for about a year now and the finish is too fragile. Also, there are/were some issues with the mounting height of the legs. I can provide additional pictures or details if you want, but for the price I cannot endorse this table.

And go custom table from a local wood worker

Are you willing to pay shipping? I know someone who custom designed a table. The thing is epic, but it's not made in the USA at this point.

I ordered one from Carolina game tabled a few years ago and love itCarolina game tables

If you can justify paying around 1000-1500$ for shipping then Rathskellers Gaming Tables may do the trick :)
Based in Greece, using only White European Oak which essentially is one of the toughest and prettiest woods to be looking for.

I did a custom table at Lumber2love. Not a dedicated “game” table, but I got it for games. It has been awesome for large table presence games like 6-player scythe, Cthulhu Wars, Death May Die, Arkham Horror card game, etc, I was able to get as large as I could fit down my stairs into my basement. Lumber2love was great to work with.

First off — love how clearly you laid out your expectations. That kind of clarity makes it so much easier to avoid the usual “it depends…” spiral 😄
I’m replying as someone deeply involved in the design and manufacturing of premium board game tables. I lead a team of professional woodworkers in Poland (we’ve been in the woodworking business since 2008 — furniture and staircases originally — now full-time board game tables for the last 3+ years), and I think we might be able to tick a lot of your boxes:
What we offer that might interest you:
- Fully customizable sizing — 84" x 48" for 6+ players? No problem.
- Choose your wood — solid oak by default, but we also offer walnut, ash, zebrano, padouk, and others.
- Stain and finish? Fully your choice.
- Cup holders — mounted on aluminum rails, modular and removable.
- Drawers or player trays — available both integrated and modular.
- Topper for dining/snacking — included or optional, depending on your preference.
- Design style — minimalist, elegant, no medieval distressing or mid-century angles unless requested.
- Chairs — We don’t currently produce matching chairs ourselves, as customer preferences are highly varied. But once you have the final table height (floor to underside), it’s usually easy to match chairs locally to your liking.
We’re currently running a Kickstarter campaign (with a few configurations like this on display), and while we're EU-based, our U.S. shipping is relatively reasonable — especially at your budget tier.
Would love to show you some examples, reviews from previous clients, or even build you a custom quote if you’d like. But regardless, I think your criteria are spot-on and hope you find the table that’ll serve your group for decades!

Carolina game tables are good. Their chairs are incredibly comfortable too. Only thing I don’t like about them is the lack of a rail system for but they have a built in cup holders and a wide enough space for most games.

We have the 32 inch Infinity Game Table. It was $999 but so worth it. Its pretty big and not easy to move. Foldable legs and a handle to take it to friends etc would be amazing. My family and I use it all the time. I don't regret the purchase at all. Its not wood and has no chairs but is preloaded with a lot of games. Check it out.

Thanks again to everyone who provided input here. I just posted final photos here for anyone who wants to see the final product (TL:DR we found a local Amish woodworker to make it for us).

u/Birdmn987 Mar 03 '25
So for chairs I ordered my chairs from a company called Room & Board. Padded back and padded seats. I think ran me around $3,000 or a little bit over that. Super comfortable. They will do a number of different stains for chair legs and they have a bunch of different Woods if you get solid wood and they have a lot of fabric choices.

Geeknson do very high quality tables and has some great design features. It's European based so delivery may be too much, but if spending that much it may be fine.
1
u/Late2theParty2022 Mar 03 '25
Yeah I think when my husband built the table he’d want it was pretty far above the max of what we’re comfortable spending.
1
u/WorldClassCactus Mar 03 '25
There are tons of anecdotes of terrible customer service from Geeknson if you look on both reddit and bgg.

u/Shinagami091 Mar 03 '25
Wyrmwood is good. Very expensive but they have one that’s got a hand crank so you can choose the depth of the bottom part of the table and you can buy all kinds of accessories for it.
Edit: wasn’t aware of the wyrmwood drama.
In that case I would go with Game Theory Tables which are also made of solid wood.
-2
u/donkeycentral Mar 03 '25
Check out the Wyrmwood subreddit, they recently fulfilled a dice Kickstarter that has been plagued with quality issues, to the point where the dice are likely unbalanced or "loaded" due to errors in the manufacturing process. Their statement was basically, "the vendor in China screwed up, we'll issue store credit only, no refunds." Customers are rightly outraged over this.
I had wanted to buy a table from them for some years but I'm glad I didn't. The company seems to have totally lost its way.

u/atcstretch Mar 03 '25
Dont have any experience with purchasing something like this, but based on your pretty specific requirements/desires, your best bet is probably to find a local woodworker who can handle this type of build and go from there.
Would likely be able to get everything you are looking for, especially since price doesnt seem to be a factor. And their expertise may be able to suggest features or design elements youve not even considered!

u/Late2theParty2022 Mar 03 '25
We haven’t found any and have been scouring the internet, stopping at Amish furniture stores, and asking around.
Allplay (formerly boardgametables.com) has a table that meets all of our expectations but wanting to hear what others have to say.

u/ksimpson639 Mar 03 '25
I have the AllPlay Jasper Long. We have owned it almost a year now, and I am so glad that I purchased this table. It has seen so much use in the last 9 months. At the time of purchase it took about a month to get all of the pieces in. We ordered a couple of the cup holders and several of the trays for the magnetic railing and they work perfectly. Zero complaints. The topper works really well, but I had some troubles getting it to go down inside of the frame(each end piece has two plastic feet that are supposed to be seated inside the frame of the play area that were not fitting where the pre drilled holes were) so I had to make some slight adjustments to the location of the feet. But that was the only issue I had. Assembly is absolute cake. They have a great tutorial video to watch they they send you before you get your shipment. It’s worth the watch just to understand it. I cannot recommend this table enough, I have several all play products, including the bag and one of their play mats from before I purchased the table, and they are high quality products. And their customer service was stellar. One of the player trays I received was missing a magnet, I contacted them, and they sent out a brand new one for free, and didn’t ask me to send the other back.

This is great to hear. We’ve been thinking about doing a custom build with them. We already use one of their gaming mats on our existing table.

I bought us a table from Carolina Game Tables, I had seen their booth at GenCon.
Liked the wide edge and solid wood construction. Very sturdy. Very happy with it so far. Wish I had gotten the 3 piece topper though, the 2 piece is very heavy.
I'm using thrift store chairs with it right now, ha!

I cannot vouch for whether Wyrmwood’s company culture is toxic or not. (I believe many companies have toxic cultures, but they are not as open on social media as Wyrmwood is). At any rate, I hope you get the reassurance you need about them because their tables are amazing. I have the Prophecy with matching chairs and an MGT coffee table. I love that with the toppers on they do NOT scream gaming table. They are just nice quality pieces of furniture that have the extra gaming functionality.
Whatever you decide, good luck on your journey. I wish you many fun hours of gaming with your new table!

I cannot vouch for whether Wyrmwood’s company culture is toxic or not.
You don't need to. There are many ex employees who can and do vouch for the toxicity.
-2
Mar 03 '25
And just asany that vouch that it isn't. Loud people love to complain so they'll create a bigger splash, most people that are happy and content with the way things are tend not to voice it.
2
u/etkii Negotiation, power-broking, diplomacy. Mar 03 '25
And just asany that vouch that it isn't.
Do they?
But let's say hypothetically that you're right and 'only' 50% of ex-employees assert that it's a toxic workplace: that's a toxic workplace.

🤷🏻♀️ We have a custom-made Amish made king sized bedroom set with two dressers and two nightstands so I know how much good woodworking costs. We are looking for a similar heirloom piece for our game table.

u/GaiusCasius Mar 03 '25
Your process is simple. You want high quality, which automatically means all boardgame table manufacturers are out of the way. 1. Find out what you want, try different tables and get a feel for them, do the same with different kind of woods and finishes. 2. Work with someone to design your table in e.g. autocad. 3. Sent the design to several woodworkers and get a quote. 4. Enjoy.
12k is reasonable for the table alone. If you want high end these are the prices. Buy the chairs seperate.

u/crazyg0od33 Kingdom Death Monster Mar 03 '25
Absolute hard disagree with the first statement.
My bandpass design table is extremely high quality
🤷🏻♂️
-10
u/GaiusCasius Mar 03 '25
That's only because you don't know what high quality is like. The grain isn't going to the right way. I personally hate incline, so that's also a minus. The slabs aren't solid but instead it looks like they put together multiple small slabs / pieces. It looks like a board game table, another minus. Sure it might be solid and pass the test of time, it's all right, but it's definitely not high end.
2
u/Sethron1 Mar 03 '25
Do you know what solid wood is? And what does "looks like a gaming table" mean? Have you seen one with its topper on? No one can pick out its a gaming table with that topper on.

I have had my Rathskellers for 8 years and I love it. Few key things I highly recommend:
