When I get home he is on the bed staring at the front door if I'm late he is sitting on the floor right at his food bowls so he knows what time I should be home

’“If you don’t want to stay, at least bring back treats”’
…Human… where you going? why you leaving me again ?
i watched you getting ReAdY, n i tried to Stop you, fren…
my lonely heart is breaking every time i watch you go…
am sit here by the window,
making sure that you will know…
you’ll see my sad eyes watching, as i’m on the window shelf
am holding back my kitty tears
so Brave here,
by myself…
but i’ll stand guard n watch each human passing on the street
Alone is Hard…

Awww that face! My cat will follow me to the elevator when I leave. Sometimes I come home and he’ll be sleeping in front of it waiting for me. Makes me feel TERRIBLE!

Used to feel this always, heart wrenching! I got another cat and it helped us all

u/Little_View_6659 May 25 '26
I would love to! I’ve been outvoted. I just foster kittens when I can. Mine is a patient big brother. They only get a little time together before they go for adoption, since I have to keep them separate until it’s medically cleared.

u/Artemis1911 May 25 '26
Awww. I think you should be reconsidered for the buddy cat because it will benefit two members of the household ❤️

But I need to go to get food for her 😭😭

u/venturousbeard May 25 '26
Try using an 'away toy'. I had an anxious orange that would do this and not give me a moment without contact for 30m every time I got home. Got him a a kong treat egg, would put in a tsp of his food b/c too many treats lead to diabetes, put it out right before I left and put it away as soon as I got home, and he'd greet me but be less anxious about my ventures away.

u/Allaboutpeace2022 May 25 '26
How true. Can you hold up a sign with cat food and some sort of pointing finger and explain that.

u/Allaboutpeace2022 May 25 '26
I know. If I was on my way to work, I think that I would hang my head and try not to look.

Oh she absolutely knows how to be dramatic!
She knows that I give her food in the same time, more or less same amount, so now she just quietly and very closely follows me when I'm about to get her food.
But when my grandma comes... she immediately is in a SCREAMING mode, she starts behaving like she is STARVING, WASN'T FED FOR DAYS because she knows my granma is easy go break with few dramatic meows and get more food
She is such a manipulative little menace
I love her so much

My husband had never had a pet cat and legitimately thought I was starving them. Look how they’re crying! You forgot to feed them! I literally fed them every night before bed. They’re just cats, they’re dramatic and act like they’ve never eaten before. He’d actually get really upset about it. Bro…

My two do the same. Around me they're totally chill, no drama. They follow me at meal time and calmly wait while I take it up and then walk with me to their eating spots.
When other people are involved it's as if I starve them for fun and please for the love of Hesat and Bastet someone please feed them.

u/pwninobrien May 25 '26
You should probably get her a friend. A second cat is wonderful for morale. Especially for pets with seperation anxiety.

What a beautiful cat. My cat used to do same to me always made me feel terrible for leaving. And my husband said she would start waiting for me at the front door when she knew I would be home. And if I was late she would cry until I got home. Cats are so smart and they love their people so much. And you can tell your cat loves you very much.

Give your kitty treats before you leave if you haven't started that routine. This has helped my boys who, instead of being sad I leave, encourage me to leave faster so they can get some treats. 🙄😂

Wow. I had a cat that used to sit in the window and when he saw me coming up the street from work, he would do a double-take, then run to the door. And when I would come up and open the door, he was basically wagging his tail. His tail would go straight up and kind of vibrate. He would purr his little kitty lungs out.

The concern in her face!!!
My voidling, Luci, does this whenever I leave through the front door. There's a window above the door and a convenient ledge he can sit on. He'll watch me leave and cry a bit. If I've only stepped out to take out the garbage or go get mail he'll wait for a minute for me to return. He will watch the whole way up the walk and only when I get near the door does he hop down to greet me on the half wall with little squeaks.

Reminds me how lucky I am to work from home so my babies always have me. I hope one day our world changes dramatically so more people can spend time with their pets and family. Love this precious baby and she will be so happy when you return!!!

This must make it so hard to leave the house. Your best bet is to commit a mild crime and get house arrest.

Tristan is absolutely beautiful! She looks admittedly sad in this picture looking out the window. Mine do something similar. They go to the back windows (i park my car directly outside the back windows) & will stare out at me as I get in the car to leave. I wave at them & tell them ill be back soon & to be good. Like they understand me...not lol! I do it anyway 🙂

I feel like people should get a large photo of themselves (8"x10", not like a poster or anything) and put it somewhere near their animals bed or where they like to sleep so the pet can see them during the day and not be so lonely. It isn't the same as the real thing of course but it may help them not feel so lonely

My boy Loki follows me to the door. Then when I get home from work he’s watching for me at the upstairs window and runs to greet me at the door.
Love that little guy

Our calico (Koi) does the exact same thing! She'll also run to the window when she hears our car pull into the driveway.
