I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with this. You all don’t deserve to be treated like that just because you’re trans. Sending you hugs. Also, what the absolute fuck is “trans broken arm syndrome”??? Is it just a broken arm but accused of happening because you’re trans?

Pretty much! It's the assumption from a professional that any and every unrelated health issue you have is actually due to HRT/transness in general, and refusing to investigate further into it

Essentially the same problem as fat people going to the doctor and being told 'you need to lose weight' no matter what their actual medical issue is.

Or cis women being told it's because of periods or hormones.

Or that when there are issues with periods/hormones, they say it’s “normal” and there’s no need to worry (me)

A knight covered in burns and various other wounds, fresh from a battle with a dragon, stumbles into the hospital. Her arm falls off, she's bleeding.

The doctor asks, "When was your last period?"

"And thats when I choke slammed a doctor into an adjacent exam room with my remaining arm then threw the one that fell off at his nuts."

Yeah, I heard a lot of stories about female doctors telling female patients to "endure it" and that "it's supposed to be painful".

I had a female primary for a while and she performed a Pap smear on me (my first one). It was PAINFUL. I was crying in pain and she told me, while I was in pain, that it’s not that bad. She’s not my doctor anymore

Don't get me started!

I had four orthopedists assure me everything was completely fine with my back and that I just needed to lose weight.

My GP sent me to get an MRI - two slipped discs.

Subsequently, when I walked into my Neurologists office she looked at me like "how dare you walk in here without being called" but asked "are you miss [my name]" and I said "Yes. Hello."

"YOU'RE WALKING!? HOLY SHIT YOU MUST BE IN SO MUCH PAIN!!! PLEASE SIT DOWN NOW!"

I never felt so seen. Turns out I had just gotten "used to" compensating for my slipped discs, which caused tons of other issues that I'm still dealing with 4 years later.

Oh hey, are you me? Took 10 years to get a fenale doctor about my back pain, she did 1 simple test that made me cry out, she sent me for an mri, 2 fucked discs and a 3rd on the way. I cried from the relief of finally being believed and having proof. And that keeps happening with every issue I have- i have to fight for years before it gets taken seriously and it turns out i was right all along. I'm so worn out, and so in pain, and so angry, all the time.

Got told to do water aerobics when I was sobbing in pain from sciatica. My muscles were probably just really weak.

I had a herniated disc.

Still have it, I guess, but physical therapy helped, so the pain is rarely there anymore.

Good grief, that’s crazy. I’m sorry

I've had recurring migraines since I was 8, and almost every doctor I've talked to about them thinks it has something to do with the estrogen I started taking when I was 25.

That's so hilarious because mine (trans man) are apparently testosterone-based lol. Ive had migraines since puberty and only started transitioning at 24.

I don't understand how they logic that 🤔 make it make sense...

I've been depressed for a decade and started T last year, which didn't cure my depression but lifted at least one weight off my shoulders. Had an appointment for a psychiatric dayclinic recently and mentioned that I am trans only because my legal name isn't changed yet. Half the appointment, even after I said how long my depression has been going on and that my T is in a normal range, was about my testosterone.

I've had bad gums all my life, so does my mum. The moment I went on T to transition my dentist became convinced "its the hormones" causing my gums to bleed so bad...

Also, what the absolute fuck is “trans broken arm syndrome”??? Is it just a broken arm but accused of happening because you’re trans?

I have a reasonably rare and extremely painful skin condition where I get giant abcesses all over my body that burst and it's really painful and unsightly. I had a doctor try to tell me it was because I was on HRT and that if I stopped HRT, it would go away. Mind you, this is an incurable disease and the real kicker is I had it for like 5 years before I started HRT. Doesn't matter to them, it's easier to just blame it on their unknown than actually investigate the problem for what it is.

Would this happen to be Hidradenitis Suppurativa?

7

u/Ridiculisk1 Aug 01 '26

yep that's the one

6

u/seethingseathe Aug 01 '26

If you don’t mind me asking, have you found an effective treatment regimen? I’m a student and just saw a patient using Taltz with good relief

3

u/Ridiculisk1 Aug 01 '26

I'm on humira and it's pretty much the only thing that's worked so far. Tried the usual erythromycin and accutane and all that but no results. Humira has been working pretty well though, reduced my flare ups massively and when they do flare up, they aren't open and discharging for as long before healing again. I had surgery a few times ages ago to get one particularly annoying lump removed but it kept recurring so I just deal with it now

u/seethingseathe Aug 01 '26

I appreciate the info and your willingness to share. I’m sorry for your past experience and I hope for your case it was due to ignorance rather than hate, because at least ignorance can be corrected. Have a great day!

a good rule of thumb is any stupid thing society does to women it also does to transmasc/femme types.

So they blame it on our periods, or on our HRT, or on fat. They blame EVERYTHING on one of those three things.

Damn, you fell down some stairs and broke your arm? Sounds like we should reduce your hormones, that lower center of gravity is what caused the fall!

...you want me to treat your arm? But you're trans.

3

u/nonchip Aug 01 '26

"hey doctor my arm is broken, see the bloody bone bits aticking out?" - "that gotta be those weird hormones you're taking, stop those and go home"
