One told my mom when I was little after a test that I couldn't be autistic because "she checks all the boxes but just look at her, she clearly doesn't have it!"

You obviously have a missing leg but you aren't handicapped because you managed to get here on crutches.

(Is this offensive? If it is I'll delete it).

No it's accurate. It's a good analogy.

Sounds like she was in denial and didn't want to acknowledge that her child falls into a group she seems as mentally disabled.

My mom thought that sounded like BS but ah, she's a medical expert, probably knows what she's talking about...
Now we're struggling to get me tested for autism years later because that's usually something diagnosed in childhood and I am past that point. My doctor told us that she could refer us, but I likely would not get accepted for testing because of my age.

I have gotten retested like 3 times in my life, it is absolutely not just something that happens in childhood. I am in my 30’s and just got reevaluated due to needing documentation that had gone missing.

Depends on the country and/or local medical system. I was in a similar boat.

Edit: And I work in medical

My mom was told I couldn't be autistic because "I loved her"

I had the same thing with a Type I diagnosis as an adult. The doctor looked me, then my numbers, and then back at me. He was like, “we ran all this tests I guess you are Type I.”
