TIL that this is ALSO a Nazi symbol combining some mantra and Hitler salute. What the actual hell.

Also brazen as heck. I'll never forget the time I made a call on a Nazi sympathizer and had to get a supervisor involved when the dude refused treatment due to my partner being Hispanic. Fucking asshole.

And no being civil does not matter red hat man

Reddit really needs to handle "use/mention error"

u/Perryn Aug 07 '26

Nah, that's just the Valuable Discussion™ that reddit values so highly.

14 was new to me too, also german, but I know their codes 18, 88, 28, 168:1, 1919, 311 and 444 also 20.04. And some letter codes like GNLS, RAHOWA, WP and ZOG and then are there also some emoticon dogwhistles, I remember back when the Hogwarts legacy topic was all around were I scrolling through the Community tab from the game arguing too and I saw a guy (who I reported, he didn't get banned just had to change his name) who had two ⚡️in his name

Also a more recent one; 1161 for Anti-AntiFa. Which might be the dumbest one out of them, but still..

That’s incredibly roundabout when you could just call yourself a fascist

When I was younger I used to go by 88 at the end of my usernames because it is my birth year. I stopped when I found the alternate meaning to it.

2

u/threelizards Aug 07 '26

Wow I never knew why 88 was a Nazi thing, I hate my initials now wtf

TIL there's a second half to the fourteen words, I never heard that part before.

14 being a nazi number because a nazi put together a sentence that has 14 words is crazy.

Sucks you have to help those losers too

It is what it is. I may be forced to. But I don't have to be nice.

Luckily the dude in question refused all our help and just let us leave. Never felt better about leaving someone behind while on the ambulance. Don't really care how that makes me sound either

I remember going through training and my friend (who's now a nurse) asked how I would handle a racist patient that wouldn't let me touch them. I told her it's their death to choose, so long as they sign the paper lol

I know some people born in 1988 gets caught in that too. Having a username with your birth year is just not an option for thems no more

You would be astonished at how many lesser known nazi and neonazi symbols that are in common use. 1488 is actually one of the better known ones, but there's probably three dozen I'd recognize. Sometimes I'll just spot a nazi in public, and no one else around has any idea, because that's it's supposed to work. Makes my anxiety spike.

There's a lot that are ambiguous too, like Celtic crosses and Norse runes. Those are very popular with assorted white supremacists, but are also legitimately tied to some people's heritages, and lots of people just think they look cool. It's always a sign to stay alert for other clues.

This reminds me of my friend getting an AirBnb in a very liberal city and we asked him what the code for the door was and he said "owners say it's 1488". We sweeped that place for any other signs and didn't find anything but there was no way those numbers were picked at random.

I mean if that's the only thing you found, then it's plausibly a coincidence. What's that phrase? Once is accidental, twice is a pattern, or something?
