I think a lot of Europeans don’t realize you’re expected to have leftovers a lot of the time with big portion sizes. Taking the rest home and eating it later is very normal. We aren’t (all) just gorging ourselves at every meal.

That is pretty normal in Spain, people often ask for a plastic container to take leftovers home

This!!! Like the reason our portion sizes look like two meals is because that's what often happens.

It would be very strange if a restaurant *didn't* offer containers for leftovers.

And I think it's strange that you would order a singular fresh meal and would then have to pay for the equivalent of two meals, one of which you have to lug home to eat later, no longer fresh.

Just let me pay for and eat one fresh meal when that is what it says on the menu. Don't make me pay double and give me double!

As a kid that was berated and always required to clean my plate or sit at the table until bedtime, the idea of a single plate being multiple meals is not an easy thought.

Americans gonna America. Yeah we get large portions because we can take them home said no-one ever. 99% of the 'big' Americans eat everything untill they're finished. And also refill their drink 4-5 times so they get a good 2 liter of soda (couple 100 grams of sugar).

I feel like if you have left overs from your meal, you’re getting “too much”. Obviously can’t speak for all of Europe but in countries where I lived it was preferred to just have your set number of meals (2-4 for most). It would kind of suck to have half a meal left over from lunch and not being able to have a proper dinner.

Then save it for lunch the next day?

I actually enjoy it because I feel like I got two meals out of it. Today’s dinner is tomorrow lunch. Saves me the trouble of coming up with something lol

European logic: "It isn't the way I do it, it must be wrong because there is no other way."

They're much smaller

They do exist. It’s just not great to keep cooked food in them for too long, considering bacterial growth. I’d also just prefer to eat fresh food instead of 1/3 a lunch from last day.

In what world are you going to get a bunch of bacteria on your food by storing it in a fridge for one day? That's like half the point of a fridge, to keep your food from going bad.
