I'm flabbergasted!!

Next you're gonna tell me Starship Troopers isnt about blind patriotism and nationalism?!!

[u/Zirofal → u/Temporary-Employ-611]

What's next? Matrix being some weird pro trans movie?????

[u/Moe_Perry → u/Zirofal]

Meh. I’m not blaming anyone for not seeing a trans allegory in the Matrix, regardless of it’s creators intentions. The thing about the Plato’s Cave allegory is that it’s both super evocative and fully general. Literally any possible claim is justified if you accept a divine revelation, inaccessible to the normies.

I mean… Starship Troopers the book is about how blind patriotism and nationalism is good.

[u/Benegger85 → u/Subspace-Ansible]

He never said it was good, it just was like that in the books.

It's more about the psychology of soldiers

[u/RuffneckDaA → u/Benegger85]

In the same way that 40k says those things are “good”. My take away with tropes like these tends to be that when extinction is on the menu, most things can be argued to be permissible, even if there are severe moral consequences.

You can turn any progressive opinion into a conservative one, by just amping up the fear. It’s why it’s so effective.

Can’t risk change to social norms when the Xenos are at the gates.
