As a brit who has travelled abroad I can say that part of the problem is that other places fucking suck at making British food

I wonder about this because I've been to a few British or Irish places in the US and they all have been incredibly underwhelming. It's like they have never heard of spices, herbs, anything. I had to add salt and pepper to feel something. The Irish place I went also just totally fucked up Shepard's pie so much it had nothing to do with the original dish (which I love making at home) that it's one of the only times I had left food on my plate and regretted not complaining or asking for a refund.

That's always been weird to me. Americans saying "have you heard of herbs?", because yes we have. Most of this stuff has a good deal thrown in for flavour. Im also just shocked to hear that someone fucked up shepherds pie. Did they just cook the meat and potatoes and call it a day?
