OC A Comic about DID - Part 9 [OC]

If you want to help playtest this mod, join our Discord! It features the creation of different "profiles" on one account which each have their individual skin, location, inventory, and their own keep inventory toggle.

You can download this without joining the Discord here, but keep in mind it's still in early beta so there will probably be bugs. The keybind for the alter menu is 'K' by default.

if you don't mind my asking how does the switch occur? is it when you fall asleep or does it occur randomly

It's random for the most part, aside from specific conditions that might have one alter switch over another

Do you ever switch while playing and go “wait what the fuck?”

Genuine question, curious on how your brain reacts to the changes

More "what the hell am I doing/supposed to be doing" lol. It's like walking into a room and immediately forgetting why you entered.

What if you guys switch when driving or holding heavy stuffs? Would that be a dangerous situation?

Our switches are usually slow enough that we can pull over in time or set things down

When driving, do you pull up Google Maps or something to let the next person know where you were going?

Yes I can't live without google maps even when I was only driving to work at one place consistently, I stopped doing it because I knew where we went but then some other alter got lost lol

How does you working work exactly? Did every alter need to be trained separately?

I want this question answered. Lol

I imagine there are struggles for individuals with DID and memory related to working

For most of our shared life, yeah. We'd all have to relearn the same thing over and over and over again. Though we all got extremely good at learning. Thankfully these days we can learn something once and everyone can access it.

Oh, I can relate to that!

We have very subtle switches since we have very little amnesia barriers. Crocheting is a fucking trip sometimes. We’ll be trying to count a row of like 36 stitches and switch halfway through and it’s so annoying lmao

Do you ever get "wait why am I here" (in front)

We get that one a lot

Oh, you should look up the little fan corner for the characters Sun & Moon from Five Nights At Freddie's: Security breach. They have this whole dedicated corner of fan fiction stories that's all about exploring your similar diagnosis and with people's perception and actually diagnosed people of them. Theyre a daycare worker robot who has some serious issues because theyre forced to share a body with their other half basically (a seperate AI most believe but could possibly just be his alternate personality. Its never been proven which was unfortunate and the franchise moved on with it instead staying open to interpretation.) Theres lots to unpack and explore but all the fan fictions are usually about how they work that out with themselves and what they're like when you're around them. Its often described exactly how you just did. And people try to visualize it more like theyre both sharing the same head space and one is just awake while the other is asleep or hovering in the background.

They are super popular even after all these years and even for me personally still my fav characters of all time. Theyre very cool.

Not the OP, but for us, each of us have different characters on City of Heroes. We have pretty overt switches now that we know what they feel like; we typically go and lie down for comfort, and when switching in, walk in, log the character out without a word and log in the one that we actually play. It's not confusing at all to us.

We also read our own books after an incident where one of us finished reading MY book and returned it, and I couldn't check it out later. They read books very differently, so it's like it was spoilered badly and taken out of my posession.

I know it's not the point of the thread, but I'm surprised to hear City of Heroes is still going! I remember when it and CoV shut down, it took up a huge part of my life.

Homecoming is free to play and is actively maintained. There were... hijinks with the original source code.

If you switch in the middle of something private, do you respect that alter's privacy? Do you have individual passwords on documents?

So could you be in the middle of making dinner, have no idea what kind of dish it is going to be and have to improvise stuff? Does everyone cook after their own preferences? How do you keep track of whether or not you have taken medication - if you need to take some regularly? I have so many questions, hope it's not a bother

For us, we periodically just have a particular very floaty, drifty feeling, and if we don't risk a headache and fight through it, after a few seconds we close our eyes and are gone to the innerworld, and it's not our problem anymore. Usually about threeish times a day.

12

u/Alexmira_ 4d ago

What's the inner world? What do you experience while you are there?

A shared dream/visualization/memory palace space that we have furnished with useful things to help us communicate and do our jobs, and sometimes billboards of important things everyone needs to do. Not really much, but it helps us conceptualize what's going on and be able to work with it. All part of our therapy to work better as a system.
