Random but one of my favourite historical fun facts is that the Romans loved the Spartans so much that aristocratic Roman families would send their children to Sparta to learn their ways purely for educational and recreational purposes, not for any practical reasons. Sparta and the Spartans at ine point in Roman history was essentially a living museum and tourist attraction.

Spartans had slaves and beat their kids so it was probably not the greatest summer camp experience

Your acting like romans did not have slaves or beat their kids

That's probably what they liked the most about Sparta

I mean, my understanding is that you have to pay attention to your kids to beat them so maybe the Romans didn't actually do that.

Hello Muddah, hello Faddah.

Here I am at Camp Granada Romana.

Camp is very entertaining.

And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining they stop the beating

Athens was basically a tourist attraction at the time too. It was probably the number one reason it was so well preserved and even had Roman Emperors putting money into building projects in the city. They loved it for much of the same reason people visit Athens today.

Awesome, didn't jnow that haha thanks :) It is brilliant how little we have ultimately changed as a society and collective culture across thousands of years really. The same things stood. Aesthetics. "Memes" or other humour. People act like we are so far gone from our roots, but what exactly are our roots in this kind of discussion??
