i'm experiencing crackling audio? not sure if it's a speaker or game or system thing. feel a but insane.

u/ShaneRus02 24d ago

Its pretty bad for me. Music is constantly cutting out, and combat encounters are terrible with the enemies audio being in and out too

Yep, same here (PC). Audio is stuttering constantly, and lags by seconds during every one of Dylan's cutscenes so far, and I've just gotten out of the Oldest House.

And I was stuck in the elevator to the lobby for nearly a minute with zero audio until the doors finally opened.

UPDATE: moved my install to a new SSD... sadly, no difference for me. Same audio stuttering and video lockup right off the bat.

thank god it's not just me. Fiddled with settings so much trying to fix it

edit: Updating NVIDIA drivers and turning on night mode on audio menu fixed it for me! Running silky smooth now

edit 2: oops spoke a tad bit soon. Still getting background audio cuts in some places and weird desyncing. Gdi

Same down to the elevator! Also on PC

I find it unplayable as the cutscene when we leave the oldest house is completely impossible to follow and understand with the audio issues.

Moving the game to the SSD to see if that helps :/

u/pardyball 23d ago

Obviously, YMMV with what you use, but mine is on my SSD and I'm having audio issues, too.

2

u/Elrik_Murder 23d ago

Same! I quit playing the game until they acknowledge and fix this. You can't not have working audio in a Control game.

1

u/West-Application-375 23d ago

I moved it to SSD and it's mostly fixed, some lagging here and there but it's playable at least.

5

u/Zenzirouj 22d ago

Exact same for me, I can't stand playing because the audio problems are so bad.

Also exact same thing in the elevator. If the game hadn't been running so terribly leading up to that point I would have given up and reloaded, but since it had been so bad so far I assumed (correctly) that it was just taking forever.

u/ashriekfromspace 23d ago

Kinda baffling we get same bugs as in AW2

2

u/User4f52 19d ago

Exactly. Same bug as AW2!

3

u/Top-Appointment6461 23d ago

I fixed the elevator issue by running right up against the edge of the door to scratch the audio. Even so, the game runs perfectly fine, but the audio keeps glitching out all the time. We’re definitely not the only ones either; there are a lot of complaints about the same issue on Steam.

1

u/Average64 22d ago

Move the game to your internal ssd drive. That fixed it for me.

7

u/Kalpazen 23d ago

This is a huge immersion breaking bug imo. Thought it'd be fixed with the day one patch

3

u/Favorite-Cantrip8424 23d ago

Ditto, glad I'm not alone

3

u/offocialqdoba 23d ago

same exact thing happened to me.

2

u/Mustard-Eggs-Cheese 22d ago

I had the exact same issue, genuinely thought I got softlocked.

I had the game installed on my hard drive, but I'm going to move it over to my SSD to see if that'll help, apparently it's meant to help fix the audio issues too?

2

u/CADJunglist 21d ago edited 21d ago

Was having the same issues as everyone else; long loads and objects missing in first cutscene, audio desync, audio cuts during game play.

Moved the game from one SSD to another, started a new Gamez and it's now fixed. At least up to when you leave the oldest house, no time to test further

1

u/Front-Gap9212 23d ago

Damn I thought I was the only one experiencing it

12

u/benh79985 23d ago edited 23d ago

Yeah audio is constantly cutting out on PC, both in and out of cutscenes.

11

u/subdivisions-rush 24d ago

I've got that too, not consistently, normally after a scene involving cutscenes

11

u/Mindless_Tie5140 23d ago

yeah, same, i'm probably gonna leave the game alone until its fixed, it makes the game unplayable, mine starts from the begining of the game, from the intro cut scene, all I see is objects being loaded into the game during the cutscenes as well. Audio is cutting in and out during and out of cut scenes, during the gameplay it starts freezes and than starts again.

6

u/ASharpEgret 23d ago

Exact same bugs for me, and I was also stuck in the elevator a while.

3

u/West-Application-375 23d ago

Same. Also was stuck in elevator too. I can forgive that but the audio in the cutscenes being absolutely awful makes it impossible to know what's going on. Currently unplayable.

3

u/ASharpEgret 23d ago

I reinstalled the game on my SSD instead of my HDD (as someone mentioned in another comment) and it fixed all my problems. Still some screen tearing, but 1000x better than before.

6

u/GasMaskExiitium 23d ago

I’m glad this fixed it for you but a lot of us with it loaded on an SSD are still experiencing the audio bug unfortunately.

2

u/Diddley4209 23d ago

my game was freezing on one of my ssds but installing it on my boot drive fixed it? bizarre

2

u/GasMaskExiitium 23d ago

Hmmm I do have mine on my secondary SSD. Maybe I’ll clear some stuff on the boot drive and install it there

3

u/Diddley4209 23d ago

I have no idea why this worked for me... let me know I wonder if it's some odd texture streaming bug

1

u/ASharpEgret 23d ago

Yeah really strange bugs- glad you've got it sorted. Hopefully AMD comes out with a driver update soon as well.

u/Kalpazen 23d ago

I had my game on my external ssd. Had to move it internal and it now runs flawlessly

3

u/GasMaskExiitium 23d ago

All my SSDs are internal lol

2

u/akqqa 23d ago

Huh, I'll give that a try

1

u/undertone90 21d ago

Same for me. Though my boot drive is an nvme, so maybe that's the reason?

2

u/Diddley4209 21d ago

Both are nvmes for me!

1

u/iGBZ 21d ago

Happening to me on a nvme SSD and I've figured my drive tanks read speed after a couple minutes of playing. I've found out that my SSD is dramless and has qlc nand, which seem to drop in performance in this game after a lot of consecutive read/write in a row. Maybe the way the game loads files?, as it also happen with textures when performance tanks. Seen that some games like bf6 has compatibility issues with some drives.

It also seem to track with the people below who changed SSD and the issue went away; maybe the other SSD had dram or tlc memory, which helped with consecutive reads.

1

u/Elrik_Murder 23d ago

Same thing happened to me. I thought it was a game stopping bug due to the audio issues, but it's simply stalling to load assets. It will eventually open.

2

u/Unfair-Inflation7453 19d ago

Yeah, I've run into the same problem—it's such a headache!~

5

u/asharkmadeofsalsa 23d ago

same here and I had the same thing with Alan Wake 2 :/

1

u/User4f52 19d ago

Same. Both in AW2 and now

1

u/asharkmadeofsalsa 19d ago

after 15 hours I'm happy to say it's not as bad as in AW2

it mostly happens on checkpoints between zones where the music will completely cut off for example

have not experienced a lot of cutscenes audio desync since posting this tho tbf there's just not a ton of cutscenes compared to AW2

3

u/FrozenDuckNipple 23d ago

Same here (PC). Changing buffer size DAW didn’t help :( I’m not a tech person, so have no clue what to do with it

3

u/Dezember_Assassino 21d ago

Same here. Playing on PC. Cut scene sound is SUPER delayed. Gameplay sounds are crackling and sometimes cut out. Elevator out of the oldest house just got dead silence and didn't move. I was running around for a solid 3 minutes before the sound came back and the door opened.

2

u/Real_Pepe_Silvia 23d ago

Also happening to me, tried reducing the settings in case it was a rendering issue, but no dice. Also got stuck in the elevator in the lobby as mentioned previously.

2

u/Nomnom_Chicken 23d ago

This just happened to me. I cleared the underground supply line, when getting back outside and Zoe talks to you - audio did just that, also the game had a MASSIVE stuttering spike. Like 2-3 seconds of solid frozen image and glitching audio, then it ran fine after that again. Has only happened once so far, about 3 hours into the game.

EDIT: The game is installed to a Kingston KC3000 NVMe drive, my Windows 11 OS also uses the same drive. Probably a game issue.

2

u/Tight-Bumblebee-638 22d ago

I got the same, even if I reduce the graphics. However got a stong pc. And take eternity to load

1

u/Rassilon83 23d ago

Oh I thought there was some sort of interference between bluetooth and xbox controller sticks

1

u/Sansgi 23d ago

I have the same problem in ps5, in my case i fixed it for some time if you open any document and wait around 30 second, but maybe it brokes again later

1

u/________76________ 23d ago

Yes, happening to me as well, today is day after release.

1

u/ThePsyPaul_ 22d ago

I'm experiencing this too.

1

u/Effective-Task2672 21d ago

Yeah I'm having this issue as well, very frustrating. Happened when Zoe put on "say what"

1

u/darxide23 20d ago

I had this happen exactly one time. I thought it was just my wireless headset acting up.

1

u/Salsicha007 19d ago

Same here. Cutscenes get desynced audio and it stutters. I am moving it to a SSD in hopes it fixes this issue.

1

u/Ben_Zetrix 18d ago

Same here. Really breaks the immersion and the experience. I'm waiting until they fix this before doing New Game +

1

u/adventureremily 18d ago

I'm experiencing the same thing on Xbox Series X. Crackling, static, stuttering, and sync delays.

1

u/AdIll1796 17d ago

The cool music after u "jump" from a Special Location bugged out so extremly (on off on off)

1

u/edward323ce 17d ago

Oh I thought that was part of the experience because new york is fabrically falling apart

1

u/emtee 13h ago

Crazy to me there still hasn't been a fix for this. Just reached credits earlier today, and the audio messed up at the start of the cutscene, which really undercut what was happening, and took me out of it.

0

u/happyhonks 23d ago

Same here but on ps5

u/greihund 20d ago edited 20d ago

Hey, same. I started off running it from an external drive, but everybody was a bit potatoey, like Alan Wake 2 was when running from an external drive, so we moved it to an internal NVME. Now the graphics are glorious, but the audio crackling persists. Digital distortion at random times. Somebody mentioned turning down the haptic volume (?! what) so we tried that, but it persists. I really, really hate the digital distortion sound, I am trying to convince myself that the Hiss have infected my computer, but it just sounds like something is overloading sometimes.

Pop OS 22.04, NVIDIA 3070, unsure of my driver version but I will try to update it as a precaution

edit: solved. For Linux users, run

pw-top

in a terminal and check for anything in the ERR column. That's your culprit. For me, it was ALSA outputting to my S/PDIF soundbar. Specifically, we made a configuration file for the audio buffer via

mkdir -p ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d
nano ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d/99-audio-buffer.conf

and then added

context.properties = {
default.clock.quantum = 1024
default.clock.min-quantum = 1024
}

to give the audio enough of a buffer. It worked after a restart and we haven't had the problem at all since. I don't know if Remedy is able to somehow ensure that people's systems are adequately buffered, but that seems to have been the issue (for me)
