Bamboo-based fuel could power vehicles, planes at a competitive cost
Researchers modeled bamboo as a feedstock for liquid transportation fuel and estimated a production cost as low as $2.75 per gasoline-gallon equivalent. Their life-cycle analysis calculated emissions of 3.5 grams of CO₂-equivalent per megajoule, compared with 90–95 grams for conventional fossil fuels. These figures are modeling results rather than evidence from commercial-scale production, so further development is still needed.
Trump goes after an offshore wind farm that’s already up and running. Trump is seeking to revoke a permit for Revolution Wind, a $6.2B, 704MW project that is already generating power for the energy-hungry Northeast. It "makes no sense."

Trump Should Be Held Accountable For Defunding Renewable Energy Projects. Ninety-five clean energy projects have been delayed, threatened, or cancelled since Trump’s re-election, putting more than 60,000 jobs and $71 billion in investment at risk. Trump repeatedly undermines US progress.

Federal court dismisses consumer billing action despite evidence of smart meter waveform calibration failures and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) anomalies
The technical issue highlighted in this case involves documented testing where smart meters continue to register continuous usage ("creep") even when an electrician has completely isolated a property by shutting off the main breakers.
Grid experts on the case note that Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) levels on modern residential loops are routinely reaching 40% to 50% due to modern energy-efficient devices and variable frequency drives (VFDs). This distortion creates significant current and voltage waveform errors that digital metering software fails to accurately calibrate, leading to inflated consumer bills and subsequent shut-offs.
Despite this empirical testing data, the action was dismissed under Rule 12(b)(6) before reaching discovery. Opening this up for discussion—has anyone else tracked public utility commission data regarding calibration vulnerabilities under high THD environments?

Here’s how much Trump’s Iran war is boosting EV sales around the world
fastcompany.comThe Trump administration has done everything it can to slow the growth of EVs. But in an ironic twist, Trump’s war in Iran is boosting the EV industry globally.
After the U.S. attacked Iran in late February and the price of crude oil soared, global EV sales also surged. A new report from Ember, an energy think tank that is tracking EV sales in 56 countries, found that 49 of them have hit new records for EVs this year.
Between March and August, EV sales in New Zealand grew 165% compared with the previous six months. In Chile, they were up 124%, and in India, 58%.
In many countries, the growth was also supported by new policies. In Germany, for example, pro-EV policies that rolled out last year were in place as fuel prices rose. By August, as Germany’s gas prices reached a record high of around $8.52 per gallon, the country’s battery electric vehicle sales made up 27.5% of total car sales—a 50% increase over the same month last year.
“First you had fuel efficiency standards—which basically means a lot of manufacturers suddenly started bringing out more affordable electric car models at the start of this year—and then there was also some more direct policy support in Germany,” says Euan Graham, senior energy analyst at Ember. “So, all of that has meant that as consumer interest in EVs has risen and as petrol prices have risen, consumers have also had more affordable electric car models to choose from.”

South-east Asia’s new battery dependency needs close attention
I published this analysis today in The Business Times on Southeast Asia's growing dependence on concentrated battery supply chains.
The central issue is not simply reliance on Chinese battery manufacturing, but how that dependence affects ASEAN countries differently, from Indonesia's nickel processing industry to regional battery manufacturing and Singapore's cross-border electricity strategy.
As battery storage becomes increasingly important to power systems, supply-chain concentration is emerging as an energy security issue, not just an industrial policy concern.
The article examines the implications for procurement, supplier diversification and regional energy cooperation.

Houthis hit Saudi Aramco HQ in Dhahran, biggest escalation yet in the oil war
Houthi forces struck Saudi Aramco's administrative headquarters in Dhahran on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, with fire reported at the site. Saudi Arabia intercepted at least one ballistic missile aimed at Dhahran city. Iran separately told Reuters it plans to intensify tanker strikes in the Strait of Hormuz using new tactics.
Previous Houthi attacks went after shipping lanes and smaller targets. Hitting Aramco's command center directly is a different category of action. If operational systems at Dhahran get damaged in a follow-up, Saudi export capacity takes a real hit, and the Strait of Hormuz pressure compounds that at the same time. The IEA already warned diesel stays tight into 2027 even before this week.
Energy traders are now pricing a scenario that looked remote 3 months ago. Does this move oil past $100 first, or does Saudi Arabia respond militarily in a way that changes the whole geometry of the conflict?
