Rainbow prism

I rebleached this week and managed one of my best lifts ever (level 9!) so I decided to try a rainbow prism color for the first time. I'm so happy with how it turned out! Took about two hours to apply the color and then left it on for 90 minutes.

Most colors are IroIro unless noted otherwise! Rainbow: red, neon orange, yellow (with some Ion Brilliance lemon), green (plus a little neon green), blue (plus neon blue), one n'only midnight blue, purple

Base: one n'only blood orange mixed with IroIro pastel rose gold and some red at the base.

First two pictures are after blow drying, then I styled it - which do you like better?

Could I add purple to my faded blue? First pic is what it looks like now, second pic is before.

I started with a cooler blue-purple and its fading into more of a teal-blue. Could I add purple to my current colour, or will it make it look not-so-great?

Thanks in advance šŸ˜ŠšŸ’œ

Bleached hair advice

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve had my hair bleached 4 times during the past 4 months with the same hairdresser and the result is always the same looking like this. I’m thinking of doing something myself to change it, but I’m not sure how.
The top of my head is very light, while my mid lengths are that brownish/orange (I’m not sure) and I’m genuinely embarrassed whenever I leave my house looking like this.

Do I bleach the sections that still look dark or tone it? I have never done bleaching myself, and I’m hoping to get some help from people online because it seems like my local hairdressers do not seem to understand what I want nor how to do it. If someone can please help or guide me I’d really appreciate it.

Me now, second picture was me before. I wanted a more natural ginger colour with some artificial brightness, not this red colour. Will it fade to a ginger?

bleached my bangs for the first time. To get rid of brassiness do I need to bleach again or tone again? Or both? Will purple shampoo help?

Does anyone else find that hair dye itches or stings while it’s on?

Hello everyone. To start with, I have a mild case of seborrheic dermatitis, which might explain why my scalp stings and feels slightly burned whenever I get my hair dyed. I use regular hair dye containing ammonia; ironically, when I tried ammonia-free versions, my hair became extremely dry.

I don’t experience any significant issues once my hair is washed—no redness or lingering itchiness. However, I’m wondering if I should look into different types of hair dye, or if this is a relatively common occurrence for those with sensitive skin.

Difference between 6 volume and 5 volume

Post image
3 Upvotes

Wella Color Touch 6 volume lifts my very fine dense hair and was wondering if switching to 5 volume would solve this? Or is it basically the same thing?

People will say it doesn't lift but after leaving it on for over 2 hours just at the back, it does and it's bright in real life. I can't do it faster. I tried to give it some air and to keep it away from my scalp but it didn't help for my root blend. I'm a natural level 7. My 8/81 mix didn't cover my last lifted band from CT so now it's double the band with the new one. I understand now I need to drop it and probably use 7/89 in my formula but it will still keep lifting and my band will keep getting bigger lol. Anyway that's not my question.

Will 5 volume help?

I tried rinsing it half way through and it's just such a pain to avoid getting the water and color not into the the top section of my hair. 5 hours is long enough to hold up the bathroom. I don't want to add another hour. I will probably have to next time.

Shrug.

Permanent color lines with blue boosters?

I know Wella and I think Igora have their special series in both lines with have permanent options in blue and green to customize the tones of their other dyes. I'm wanting to transition back to a rich, blue, almost black color soon and want to use a brand where I can have the option to add more blue pigment. I used to use just the Age beautiful color in 3B but it seems to have changed as my swatch of a new tube just came out as a very cool toned black without as much of the blue tones as it used to give me (it was subtly blue black in dim lighting but had more in natural and bright light)

I have natural level 7/8 hair so prelightening isn't necessary for me, I can just use permanent color for the "almost black" blue I want.

Advice foxtails on curls

Post image
14 Upvotes

Heyheyy, so I'm planning to do foxtail style coloring on my hair, but I haven't been able to find that many references or tutorials on curly hair. I haven't bleached or colored my hair.

I'm probably gonna use manic panic vampire red on my ends and manic panic raven (black) on the very tips (so it would look from roots to ends, my own brown color to red (ends) fading to black (tips))

Does anyone know if this will be easy to do at home or is it better to let a professional do it? And any tips or tutorials you have for doing this are very very welcome!

[Update] Not So Edgy Coloring - Please Help!

Thank you for everyone’s help. I decided to go in with a pair of scissors tonight and correct the ā€œstyleā€ issue before touching anything related to color.

Last photo is the original hair I needed help with. Unfortunately, I was feeling more soccer mom than rockstar mom. šŸ˜‚

The updates are the first time I’m styling the new cut, so improvement is much needed… but here we go!

Thanks again!!

[edit to add] I still am not capable of growing eyebrows. So… that’s where we’re at.

Has anyone tried Evil Hair Color Conditioner?

Since I moved to the UK, I’ve been searching for a vivid purple color conditioner like Overtone. I came across Evil Hair and it certainly looked promising…until I received it today.

The product smells really nice and was much thinner than I anticipated. But what gave me pause was when I noticed that the label on the jar was just taped on and looked really badly printed. The ingredients list and the directions are completely illegible - not just because they’re tiny but they’re so blurry and undefined. I did peel off the tape to see if there was another brand or label under it but it’s just a blank pot.

Has anyone tried them? Are they legit?? This is a new to me company and it feels like I’ve been scammed.

Scraggly hair!

Thumbnail

I have longish hair, I would say it's medium strand thickness and low-medium density, and when it's straightened/blowdried it can look like a cohesive curtain. But I'm trying to cut back on heat, and let it air dry naturally every second wash. However this is what it ends up looking like after a few hours, scraggly, mildly frizzed ends, separated out.

Brushing it out does nothing, it forms these scraggly sections in half an hour of just walking around doing normal stuff.

I do tend to lose a good bit of hair every wash, but it has always been like that, and my hair has always more or less gone like this when I don't blowdry/iron it smooth/straight.

My question is, should I give up on the length, and cut it up to the marked white line, where it seems to be thicker/cohesive? I just think the mids-ends look really bad.

And if I were to cut it up, and grow it out again, would the same thing happen? Or is there a known way to prevent against this pattern?

Black Hair, Possible Developer Allergy -- Any Ideas?

I've never dyed my hair before, but I wanted to so I went out and got the Ion Permanent Hair Dye Creme and their Sensitive Scalp 20V developer, and the patch test itched a little so I immediately washed it off. Is this normal? I googled it and said even a slight itch is an allergy. So. My hair is black so not even henna or demi-permanent dyes will do much. What can I do?

BTW I'm pretty sure it's a developer allergy since I did patch test the L'Oreal Casting Creme once and it was kinda itchy then too. Didn't dye my hair that time though since I accidentally mixed the whole box for the one patch test and I didn't feel like going out to get another box.

i just bleached my hair and i bought the wrong hair dye

i just bleached my hair a few hours ago with 20 developer, intending to go ginger after. my hair is around a level 8 i think? i bit more yellow though so maybe between 8 and 7. i’ve been wanting to dye my hair ginger for awhile now, so i bought revlons bright auburn box dye. it was cheap and it looked like the color i wanted.

i’ve been reading up on bleaching and dying my hair since its my first time, and i realized that this dye has 20 developer in it. or at least that’s what it says online. i’m worried to use it now. i really don’t want my hair to fall out. it feels okay right now just a bit dry. but i also don’t want to walk around with yellow hair for 2 weeks. i’m not sure what to do.

i know i should’ve gotten semi or demi permanent now that i’ve read up on it but i feel like i’ve just wasted money. maybe i can return the dye and buy something else?

Hi guys! I’m bleaching my hair at home and I’ve split the top into three sections, and i’ve bleached the sides but I haven’t done the top. Wondering how I can go about it? Should I put it in foils or do an open air application and just put it back? Do i start from the front or the back? Thanks in advance!

When do I set the timer for hair bleach?

I was wondering when I should start the timer for the bleach. Do I start it immediately when I apply the bleach to the hair OR after i applied it to the entire head? Or should I start a timer for every section? I've been very confused about this so if anyone can explain this I would really appreciate it!

Why is only one side of my head frizzy?

Post image
9 Upvotes

about two weeks ago, the left side of my head suddenly became much frizzier and dry-looking than the right side of my head. it’s not the side I sleep on, i sleep with a silk bonnet, I use heat probably less than once a month (and not in the last two weeks), I havent bleached in almost half a year (the color is from a depositing mask), I don’t brush hard, and I’ve used bond building masks and k18.

Like I said, this change is extremely recent and I dont know what could have caused it. I use a little leave-in after the shower but I don’t know if that helps or makes it worse. ive tried using smoothing shampoo/conditioner and masks (and k18), and have stopped using so much dry shampoo, but nothing is working. I have no clue what could have caused this, or how to fix it.

First time bleaching, need advice for yellow

10/9 - bleached lengths and then roots with 15 volume

10/10 -toned with T28 (Wella) and purple shampoo, only affected my lengths, and only slightly

10/12 - bleached roots and mids again, immediately was fiery yellow so I toned right away with T81 and a few drops of 050 (with 15 volume) which reduced the immediate increase in brassiness but still left it yellow

I plan to tone again with T81 and 4 capfuls of 050 after a week or so of conditioning and K18 to see if it can reduce the yellow, but I'm wondering if I will have to do another bleach bath before toning in order for it to deposit, and am also wondering if the toner may require 20 volume developer. Scalp was slightly irritated while toning and from harsh purple shampoo but otherwise my hair feels quite normal, and was mostly virgin ~lvl 7 before this.

TLDR: Is a bleach bath necessary to tone, and is it safe after 2 rounds of bleach? Is 20 volume required for it to lift more or to be toned? My goal is simply a more natural blonde, even if it is slightly ashy.

Ion Permanent Brights?

hey, do any of y'all have experience with Ion Permanent Brights in Fuschia? especially on dark hair with no bleach? I bought some back in August but was scared off from using it due to bad reviews, but I would really like to switch to a permanent color if possible.

Help with getting brass out?

I have been coloring my hair for a while to cover grays but it keeps turning orange-red which I hate. My natural color is a deep ash brown. Can anyone help with color adjustments to keep the brassiness at bay? I have been using Garnier box dye (pic #3). Want to go from Pic #1 to pic #2 (last time I had professional color done). I have a Sally beauty nearby and am open to other coloring options. Please help!
