Do not make posts about underwear or its related topics. This includes "where to find" posts, bra sizing or type, nursing garments, lingerie, thongs, VPL, bras/bralettes, bikini lines, personal grooming advice or questions, "going commando" and the like. Interpret this widely, not narrowly.

Y'all. Please stop. It is attracting creeps who are using your material as NSFW "inspiration" without your consent or knowledge. I don't know how to be any more clear than that.

I decided (clearly prematurely) to un-sticky the post about "Please stop posting about your underwear" and I've gotten several posts I've had to remove because they talk explicitly about thongs, panty lines, and bikini line grooming.

I'm the only mod and I feel I have a duty to keep this place creep-free and safe. One way I do that is by being picky about what type of content we host/allow. Discussions about lingerie, sexy clothing, underwear in minute detail--those really aren't "fashion" and more importantly, there are other outlets (see sidebar!) where those discussion are welcome and the point of the subReddit.

It also attracts creeps and weirdos. I do not want to make my members feel unsafe or icky because we have male posters posting fetish and creep content posing as a woman. It happens, people! It's gross but it's part of being a mod.

These topics are included but not limited to:

Panties, thongs, going commando or not

Bras, sizes, shapes, strapless, going without a bra

"Sexy" clothing or clothing designed to show cleavage, labia/outline of labia, buttcheeks, buttcrack, clothing that enhances secondary sex characteristics like "I want a bubble butt, I want cleavage". This should be interpreted widely. If you have to pause and ask yourself "am I asking about looking HAWT?" take it to another venue, please.

I will make a judgement call on stuff like "what type of shapewear should I wear with this" or "I need a cooling thigh chafing solution" or "help me pick a cute going out or date outfit".

Y'all...I love you but this is not "fashion" or style. I have to put my foot down here. If you have legit questions about the function of underwear, take yourself to r/lingerieaddiction OR ask on r/femalefashionadvice where there's a wider audience and you may get a wider variety of answers :)

ENOUGH The queen has spoken.

If you have a specific burning question and don't want to get removed/banned and/or stuck in moderation, get in touch and I'll make a ruling.

• Upvotes

What do you wear and how do you style your outfits/accessories to feel cute and chic in rainy weather? I have upcoming vacation to a place that has a forecast of rain every day and I’ll be out walking a lot🥲

So far plans are:

-makeup everyday
-and nothing…

I love the Keds take on ballet sneakers

As a Xennial who spent my teen years in the south, Keds were a preppy staple! My mom was too cheap for the real ones, but dupes were common from Payless/Kmart/Walmart/Target etc. They were one of my go to sneakers with a dress shoe.

I definitely had dupes and real ones through my teens and 20s.

Over the last few years I have seen some cute printed versions come out and collabos, but not enough for me to jump back in. And like the Converse of my youth, my adult feet were unimpressed.

I just got these in the mail, because I love metallics and the burgundy shade is perfect for my wardrobe. I love the satin ribbon laces as well. So cute.

2 minute take: these are not the Keds of my youth. They are leather, not canvas. The leather is what I would expect at this price point. The insoles are now removable and have some light arch support. And mew breathable with perforations. The width is fine for my feet. I have a borderline normal foot, a smidge wide but not wide enough for wides. I also have flat feet.

There might be a short break-in at one spot, but not uncomfortable. My feet are actually pointy, my big toe is much longer than my other toes so pointed shoes tend to work for me as long as the widest part hits my toe joint.

These should be decently comfy. Not 12k steps, but definitely strollers for errands or an outing and a short walk. Feels like a perfect brunch shoe.

Note: I also have the Another Sole shoes that may he stalking you on instagram. They are a Keds inspired minimal shoe. I find them very comfy and have done 15-20k steps no problem. They are a minimal construction, which leads to more visible wear but they are not lying about comfort.

But comfort could easily be improved with a better insole.

Anyway, sharing this for the other preppies out here!

Personal Style Return to Costa! Costa Rica work trip II fashion and outfit recap

Seven years ago I went to Costa Rica for work and recapped my outfits here. I just got back from a trip for my relatively new job (which has a lot of travel) and I wanted to share my outfits and recap again.

Costa Rica is in their rainy/cool season, with temps in the low 80s and sunny in the AM, with cooler, rainier weather after about 2PM. The general dress is casual/smart casual, and I was visiting an office that is a vendor where we have near-shore partners who do contract work with us (basically) to have a workshop I was running to align on our 2027 priorities, etc.

Day 1 I didn't capture my plane outfit--the trip from NY is long, and it's my Comfy USA pants + a tank + my Krista Larson sheer layering tunic + my velvet and satin jacket and my go-to travel shoes: my Converse Commes de Garcon hi-tops.

Day 2 I took the day off as my team was still arriving so there was no meetings, and I had taken a weekend day to travel in. I wore a baum und pferdgarten dress (!!) that I found at the thrift store, to go to the office and get set up, meet everyone, and then I went to a place called Oxygen Human Playground (a mall) to shop and get lunch.

Outfit pic here I bought these bracelets and I pair of emergency slides as (not pictured) I changed into fancier shoes for the office/mall and they wound up hurting my feet--story of my life, sigh. I got a pair of brown Birkenstock-ish faux leather sandals at a place called "ekono" for about $30 and then just left them with a note to please keep/discard as they wished upon leaving the hotel--these weren't something I felt I needed to pack up and bring with me home. They worked fine but weren't a souvenir or anything.

Day 1 in office this Zara blouse I bought in Portland matches these Talbots pants almost exactly so I wore it as a set for my Day 1 outfit.

Day 1 dinner out with American colleagues I talked them into going back to this food hall I found my first time there and it was just as cool as it was years ago. Costa Rica is one of the single most gorgeous, calming, magical places I've ever been, the food is great, the weather is great, it's paradise. The food hall is called Mestizo Mercado, FYI. Highest possible recommend for both the country and the specific food hall. This is a vintage slip I both slept in and wore once as a dress with my Krista Larson top I hand washed (I found Tide sachets and they are a new MVP in being able to actually WASH items not basically rinse them in face soap, heh) so I could wear it again.

Day 2 by the way, this is the dress I wore in Dallas I didn't capture a pic of, with the same shoes I wore in Dallas. It's vintage and I had the hem let out slightly, although it's still a touch short for true comfort. We had a team dinner at a very nice (but still casual) restaurant and although I wish I could have gone back to the hotel to change, traffic prevented it--it took 1.5 HOURS to go 4 miles. For real. It's insane. I don't recall it being quite that bad last time but that was 7 years ago so...it may have gotten worse since then.

Day 3 this was the final workshop day. I adore the brand CORD and have two dresses and a blouse and if it was cheaper I would have TONS more. As it is, I pounce on sales.

Last day, plane trip home this is the basic plane outfit (I've worn this for multiple plane trips now)--Comfy USA pants (I will be SO sad when these wear out) and a tee, with a flowy topper. The tee is this Gef tee which has a really unusual texture and is heavy-weight ("heavy grammage" cotton).

I also got this pin which is based on vintage matchboxes, and this blouse from Mango, as well as this blouse but the second one is right on the edge of being too small so I may just resell/donate it; they were both on sale.

MVP: the slip! I bought a Newport News 100% silk slip from Poshmark or something and bring it to wear as a slip/dress and as sleepwear on trips all the time.

Overall: both dresses were a bit short or otherwise revealing (the CORD dress has a slit I need to reinforce as it keeps pulling open at the stitching) but dresses make for a very easy one and done outfit especially in hot, humid weather. I was particularly glad to be wearing my nicest option when on Day 3 I went back to the shopping area after work (near AC1 hotel--it has both upscale and chain shops) and was nicely dressed and not feeling dowdy or too-business-y.

I also got a Chanel eyeshadow in Duty Free and a couple small souvenirs but they were not "fashion" so I didn't include them here :)

I have reached a point with my wardrobe in general where I feel I can grab and go with almost everything, however. While I brought a dress + heels + a clutch for the dinner (that I didn't get to use) everything else was relatively casual. I have figured out that items with multiple purposes and layers are they key for travel and "day to night" which does happen for business travel (perhaps the only scenario where it still does in this day and age!)

Have you been to Costa Rica? What did you wear/buy? Share to us!

Question where do you guys find cute, affordable sweatshirts for fall?

looking for a few new hoodies and sweatshirts for fall! I want something casual that looks good with leggings, but not so baggy that it looks like pajamas. Oversized clothes just don't work for me. they make me look kinda bulky. I'd love something with lots of color options too. once I find a fit I like, I can just get it in different colors. saves me from having to figure out new outfits every day lol. trying to stay under $25 each. where are you guys finding sweatshirts like that? also, I recently found out I'm a True Spring. so if you know any cute sweatshirts in colors that would work for me, send them my way! thanks a lot!

Do you hem all your wide leg pants?

I am finally getting on board and love the comfort of wide leg pants, but they are always too long. I’m 5’7. Do I need to have everything hemmed? Keep looking? I’m talking about exercise and lounge pants. I know jeans likely should be hemmed.
Since I can’t be the only one running into this, I’m just wondering what the average person does for this minor issue.

Edit: I have a long torso, so my legs are probably not as long as expected for my height

Question Best dress brands for women that people are loyal to and keep going back to?

Rather than looking for a ranking of the best dress brands, I am more interested in which ones people genuinely stick with and keep buying from. Which brands have you purchased from at least three times because the quality has stayed consistent?

I mostly shop for occasion dresses for weddings, work events, and holiday parties. My budget is around $100–$200 per dress, and at that price, I'd expect to wear each piece for several years. Which brands have actually earned your repeat business?

Question Work travel shoes

I'm 37 and going on a work trip for a few days. I don't travel much at all so I'm looking for some Amazon items (fast shipping) that I can purchase that would help with the airport and work but then be flexible for everyday life. I'm looking for suggestions on shoes that would be good for the airport but also look good with wide leg jeans and leggings. I'm thinking a runner or sneaker?

The office is casual so jeans and a sweatshirt are totally fine (I'll be traveling from Ontario to Maryland) but I also don't want to look sloppy. I don't feel as confident since I've had a baby, that lower belly really is a pain in the ass..

Suggestions for shoes and clothes would be so appreciated!

Wardrobe rebuild Where can I buy grown up clothes?

My style has always been very flamboyant. Like bright colored unique tops and crazy novelty jewelry. I've grown as a person this year and realized my styles changing. I also got a management job and am finding out I LOVE to dress professional everyday. Like blazers and heels etc, nice quality jewelry.

I've looked in my closet and realized the majority of my clothes are either immature and/or thrifted. I love thrifting but I realized I need to buy myself clothes that I actually like. I like unique and bold pieces. I'm finding when I thrift or go to Burlington/Ross and Old Navy I'm just buying stuff cause it's an option, it fits and it's affordable and not cause I genuinely like it.

That said, I'm trying to find sites with quality pieces at an affordable price (like ~$30 for a top, maybe like ~$50 for jeans at most.

I like PinkLily. Show Me Your Mumu is nice for quality pieces but can't afford more than a couple of nice pieces. I looked at Cupshe which has a decent amount I like but idk if this site is legit. I got recommended Cider but I'm pretty sure that's fast fashion. Any other recs?

Formal Wear Needed! Need a pair of black flats with really good arch support for work

I start a new job soon and I'm required to wear black slacks and flats and I cannot find a pair of comfy flats that work with my wide feet that have arch support. every pair I've tried makes my feet hurt, gave me blisters, or had no support and made my back ache.

I’m trying to find these leggings.

Post image
5 Upvotes

I bought these leggings from Marshall’s about 3 years ago. I absolutely love them ! They are fleece-lined, have pockets and a drawstring. I have been back a few times over the years, and I’ve never found them again. The only mark on them is a faded logo. Google was no help. Does anyone know how I can find out what brand they are?

Discussion Post Fellow femmes with bad backs: what are we using instead of purses?

I’ve never been into purses - they just become a sack o’ gum wrappers and open lipsticks and whatever else;
“Fashion” backpacks usually have inadequate straps, and good straps=class field trip.

Unless I’m dressing up, I usually wear a fanny/belt bag, and have found a great brand that makes leather ones on the classier side, (happy to post in comments) but wanted to see what I’m missing. What’s your go-to??

Question Help with this shirt

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

It's an expensive (for me) shirt, I think around $80. I'm trying to have capsule wardrobe and have to think less about what I'm wearing.

The problem is, I don't love this shirt because it rides up when I do things like put on a sweater. I've always had trouble with button up shirts splitting at the bust. I usually tuck it in and pull it slightly out.

Is the problem, the shirt? Is this type of shirt not good for my body type? Which is 5'2, 125 lbs, 32DD or 34D. Should I have it tailored? Unlucky?

Help me please, I'm too old to still look uncomfortable on my own clothes and this top feels like it needs constant adjustment.

**edit/ update**

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and comments! Here's what I've learned:

  1. I'm petite not small in size in tops. That helped with the shoulder drop and overall comfort.

  2. Being "bustier" makes it more difficult. V-neck button ups and tucking shirts into spanx can help.

  3. Silk lined blazer would cause less "riding."

  4. For shirts that split at the bust, fashion tape and the small barbie buttons can help.

I think my goal is going to find blazers and nice sweaters that don't cause shirts to ride up, that fit comfortably and keep me warm. If anyone has any good suggestions please feel free to link.

Discussion Post For those of you with thoughtfully curated, disciplined closets, what balanced mindset or habits helped you get there?

For those of you with thoughtfully curated, disciplined closets, what balanced mindset or habits helped you get there? I am US-based for context.

A little context:

• I tend to accumulate rather than edit. Between size fluctuations, evolving personal style, and learning what works for me, I find myself constantly adding clothes. I generally only get rid of things when they're ruined or egregiously no longer fit.

• I'm looking for balance, not minimalism. I'm open to storing some clothes for size fluctuations or styles that come back around, but I consistently end up with heaps of clothing. I recognize I'm tilted too far toward keeping things and need to pare down.

• I want a sustainable system, not another temporary purge. I suspect I need to examine my behaviors, what drives them, and the patterns that lead to accumulation. I'm even considering journaling to better understand the psychology behind my habits and where I can make meaningful changes.

So, what helped you build and maintain a more intentional wardrobe?

I'd love to hear what clothing habits you grew up with, how they've evolved, what rules or systems you live by, what hasn't worked, and any psychological hurdles you've had to overcome.

I'm particularly interested in the mindset shifts that made maintaining your wardrobe feel easier and more natural over time.

Editing to add/bonus: how did you tactically tackle editing your existing hoard? I assume apply the rules mentioned here, but how to manage it over time?

ETA 2: Thanks everyone for sharing. Walked away with lots of ideas to try out over time.

Question Trying to be a cute hippie waitress

40 years old. To keep a long story short, I worked my whole life in kitchens, eventually became a fine dining chef, eventually had a literal nervous breakdown, spent a year on leave/in therapy, and just got a new job as a waitress in a cute little hippie vegan cafe. Now for the whole new challege: I've spent my entire life in a chef coat/pants/toque (or in sweats at home), and I have no idea how to dress for work. There's no dress code, and honestly it's less about the customers for me and more about just wanting to fit in with the other (all much younger) girls. So, if you were at our big age but still wanted to look professional but also artsy/hippie/generic-vegan-waitress, how would you go about it?

Discussion Post What’s on your “hard pass” list?

As I’ve built up my wardrobe and “Personal Style™️,” I have spent a ton of time figuring out what works for me in terms of cuts, sizes, brands, colors, proportions, styles, etc. As someone who really enjoys watching street style and designer shows, keeping an eye on fashion trends, and also shopping, those things are helpful for parsing through trends and refining what makes it through to my wardrobe vs what I just appreciate as a passing trend that isn’t really for me.

That said, I’m realizing that it’s been even more helpful to have a “hard pass list” in mind when shopping or browsing, meaning a list of characteristics or items that I have learned absolutely do not work for me and I need to never buy, even if tempted by amazing branding or product photos.

Here’s my current list:
— wool (any kind including cashmere, I have an intense allergy)
— polyester
— dropped waist silhouettes
— low rise bottoms
— paisley (just not a fan)
— bags with silver hardware (all my metals are gold)
— vegan “leather”
— heels (joint problems)

This helps me quickly exclude SO MANY items when shopping, keeping things out of consideration that I know in my brain won’t work before I can spend energy hemming and hawing because they look good in theory.

What’s on your “hard pass” list?

Question Heading back into the office at 55+and needing modern recs, please.

Hoping to get some help, please. It's been a while since I've worked in an office setting (I've been mostly remote for years), so I'm not sure what the office trends are for 55+. I don't want to look frumpy or outdated. Whatever your age is, what is your favorite office outfit and shoes if you were a mid-level manager? Thanks!

Question Everywhere Crossbody Bag 2L and the All Night Festival Bag Micro 2L - word like belt bag or short strap in front

I'm deciding between the Everywhere Crossbody Bag 2L and the All Night Festival Bag Micro 2L.

I want to wear the bag at the front with a short strap, almost like a belt bag. Since the strap sits on my left shoulder, I'm concerned that the Everywhere Crossbody might look bulky with the buckle in front.

The All Night Festival Micro looks slimmer, but I'm unsure whether it holds as much. I'm also wondering if the black-and-gold hardware is too contrasting.

For anyone who owns either bag:

  • Which looks better worn at the front with a shorter strap?
  • Which one fits more in practice?
  • Is the All Night Festival Micro noticeably slimmer?

I'd appreciate your advice. Thank you!

Question I miss leggings

I miss early 2010s cotton leggings you’d wear under skirts!

I’ve tried tights and hate them- they just don’t have the cozy feel and the rolling down ends up being a sensory nightmare.

Any suggestions for a legging alternative? I’ll still suck it up and wear tights when I need to look especially put together but for casual days (most of the time)…. I miss my leggings!

Where are we buying special occasion dresses these days that aren't awkward lengths?

The title. I can't wear maxi because I'm short, midi is an awful unflattering length on me, and it seems like if it's short, it's SHORT. I'd like to be able to show some leg because I've really been focusing on fitness and my legs and back look great. I need sleeves because my arms are a mess after losing 75 pounds, even though there is muscle under there. Off the shoulder is ok, I just need upper arms covered.

Nothing little girlish, nothing tradwife. Modern, clean lines perfered and under $250. Is this possible and if so where?

Question How would you style these jumpsuits, especially shoes, during the fall?

Thumbnail

Hi! I plan on wearing one of these jumpsuits to a casual welcome drinks event at a bar the night before a wedding at the end of the month in Maryland. I like them with sandals, but now that we are getting into fall weather I’m not sure what shoes to wear. I’m a little behind the times when it comes to fashion, so idk what shoes we are even wearing in the fall anymore. Dress code for this particular event is casual though I prefer to be on the slightly dressier side. What shoes would you recommend with this outfit?

Also open to any other advice on how style this, accessories, jacket, etc!

Not sure if it’s relevant, but I’m about 5’8”, US size 8-10, average build. Attached photos are models, not me.

Wardrobe rebuild StitchFix vs DailyLook vs other?

36 year old fairly recent postpartum mom here. I need to refresh my entire wardrobe but have no idea what looks good on my body anymore. I live in a large small town, meaning we have a few clothing boutiques, but they’re all priced for the tourism industry and they’re not exactly everyday fashion-minded. The closest large shopping hub is a 3 hour drive away and that’s just not happening any time soon. So, I’m curious about the clothes subscription services. For those of you who have tried multiple, which one did you have the best luck with? I tried StitchFix years ago, and liked it at first, but then it felt like the same styles/very similar pieces kept getting sent to me over and over. Their items were also only good for 3-4 wash cycles before they became junk. I’d be up for giving them another try to see if they have improved, but I’m curious about the other options. Is there a better one?

Discussion Post The holy grail sweater

Friends, I’m looking for a unicorn. A dark gray, oversized, squishy turtleneck sweater that doesn’t have alpaca or mohair in it. I’m talking actually oversized, not the “oversized crop” situation I’ve been seeing a lot of. I have long skirts and fantastic pants, and even some jeans, that I think would go perfectly with that perfectly oversized squishy dark gray turtleneck sweater. I’ve looked in the usual places (Banana, Madewell, Abercrombie, hell I’ve even checked sites like Celine!), but can anyone recommend somewhere I might not know about, or thought about, checking? It has been my hyper fixation for awhile now. Thank you!
