Hiii looking for more folk punk !!
Particularly it often pisses me off how much people write about romance/sex because i'm aroace. Like i'm fine with music about those topics, but stuff about family, friendship, or whatever else is way cooler
Right now i like sister wife sex strike, apes of the state, local news legend, mothers day rogers, and ramshackle glory. A bit of AJJ and days n daze too
I STRONGLY prefer trans writers and vocalists or fem vocalists. Cis men piss me off a bit
Thanks

At Shug’s in Salisbury, NC, both acts were amazing and were super cool. Also got to play with our local friends The Malorties Shorties great new band. Hope you all get to catch a great show soon!

I doubt there’s much overlap between grandson and folk punk fans but this felt like it would fit nicely in the middle

Hey! Like the titles says I was wondering if anyone knows of some decent open mic places that would be receptive to folk punk? I know of some in the area and played a few years ago but the audience tends to be older and the vibe is usually more “calm-singer-songwriter” type stuff and my upbeat sloppy stuff usually is met with kinda confused and polite little claps (I admit it’s possible I just suck haha). But anyway if anyone knows of a cool place where folk punk would be well received in the Detroit area let me know!

Did anyone who ordered the Friends in Real Life vinyl series get the New Practices LP? I got all the singles but I don't see that the LP itself shipped yet.
I emailed also but haven't heard back yet so I'm checking in with anyone else.
Well aware of the label's...capacities so I'm perfectly fine with a delay just want to make sure that I didn't end up getting missed or some other issue.

The Sanctuary
Montgomery, AL
$15 suggested. No one turned away for lack of funds.
Get ready as RENT STRIKE (solo) and Myles Bullen bring their raw, genre-bending sounds to The Sanctuary in Montgomery, AL—grab a friend, support touring artists, and come be part of the community.

I’m new to the scene and have been looking for some venues in NYC that often host all-ages gigs for smaller, starting-up folk punk artists. (Or even just folk in general!) I use the term “venue” really loosely - be it a weekly show that happens in a park, or a bookstore, etc….wherever there is music to be found.
Even if it’s not a venue, how do you usually catch wind of any musical happenings in NYC? Folk punk shows seem kind of hard to find (whereas hardcore and punk seem to be everywhere), but I’m having a feeling there’s always one playing, at least in someone’s basement.

A lot of folk punk bands are anarchists and a lot of anarchists are folk punk. A lot of folk punk artists are young and there are a lot of young people who like folk punk.
I wont get into the details, but youth liberation is about the fight against adult supremacy/adult chauvinism. And its very popular among... you guessed it, young anarchists.
The young teenage angst element of punk songs are really popular and mainstream in the general punk community, but not a lot of punk songs tend to go deep into the systemic bias and oppression of youth. I've rarely hear of a punk song being about youth rights, but I'm guessing, if I had to look, the best place to look would be folk punk.
Anyone got any suggestions of songs that are related to/have elements in common with/about youth rights? Will blast it in dads car when I have the chance.
