The dark side of our collection 🖤

Post image
57 Upvotes

My wife and I decided to put together some of the black bottles from our collection.
Same dress code, completely different personalities lol.
From left to right:
Mind Games Kingside
Mind Games J’Adoube
Fragrance du Bois Lucius Maximus
Fragrance du Bois Lucius
Montblanc Explorer
Acqua di Parma Zafferano
Game of Spades Wildcard
Van Cleef & Arpels Néroli Amara Le Parfum
If you could only keep one of these, which one would you choose?
And what’s your favorite black bottle from your own collection?

Fresh scent guy looking for a warm fall/winter scent, but I hate boozy, incense and tobacco. Help?

Hey all, I'm after some fall/winter recommendations, or anything warm that works in the cold. Fair warning: I'm picky.

I've always leaned fresh (see my collection). My all-time favourite is Creed Aventus Absolu (although kinda prefer the Afnan Supremacy Collector's Edition). Now I want a really nice warm scent for the colder months, and I'm struggling.

I want something loud, not what’ll fizzle into skin scent quickly.

What I can't stand:

Boozy: Kilian Angels' Share is a hard no. It smells like straight cognac, and I can't do alcohol notes.

Incense/frankincense: most Amouage just isn't for me.

Dark and heavy: Blonde Amber and anything in that vibe. Too heavy and dark.

Leathery: Lattafa Musamam. I know it got super popular, but it was way too leathery for me.

Floral and spicy: Brompton Immortals didn't work for me either.

Plain vanilla: I recently picked up Drunk Lovers and Liquid Brun, and honestly they just smell like straight vanilla to me. Dead boring.

Edible scents: stuff like Oajan that smells straight up like a bakery or cinnamon. I don’t wanna smell like a dessert.

Smokey / tobacco: Find Naxos genuinely atrocious.

What I actually like:

Stronger With You Intensely

Afnan 9PM Night Out

Babylon Penhaligon’s

Montale Arabians Tonka: probably my favourite warm scent right now, but it's not very work friendly. And I don’t want anything Middle Eastern-leaning now.

Terre d'Hermès Eau Intense Vétiver: LOVE it, but I'm not after another vetiver since I already have Bois Impérial, which scratches a similar itch. I also have a Dior Homme Intense dupe.

So basically I want something warm, cosy and masculine that isn't boozy, smoky, incense-heavy, tobacco-y or super dark.

I know I can enjoy warm scents, I just haven't found the right one. Open to designer, niche, or clones. What would you suggest?

A blind buy became my signature and most complimented perfume 🤍

Bought this on a whim because I saw the profile on fragrantica and I'm obsessed. The longevity is my only complaint, as is the case even with more expensive fruity/floral perfumes that I own, but it's so affordable that I can easily respray it without a second thought if necessary and it sticks well to clothes.

It is slightly synthetic and shampoo like but I'm a chemist so it suits my personality super well! Guys especially have stopped me to ask what it is X'D and it's unisex so ig that is a perk too lol.

mail day! Frutiger Aero by Unjust 🏝️🧼🏙️

this is my first time buying from Unjust, and I’m very, very happy. you could definitely argue that this is a novelty/unserious perfume since it’s based on the y2k aquarium Softsoap bottle, but I would say it’s more playful and nostalgic than unserious. tbh I’m legitimately impressed by it.

the packaging is so fun from box to bottle (the box plays music and lights up when you open it!). the scent itself is light, fresh, airy, oceanic, and a little bit soapy, exactly what I was expecting. honestly it’s even better than I was expecting! I sprayed one quick spritz on my arm for a skin test and I could smell it for several hours. very wearable, perfect for spring/summer/early fall when the sun is out and your hands are clean.

for $40, well worth the price for the nostalgia trip alone. now I really wanna try the Skype perfume that just sold out, and I REALLY wanna try the Backrooms one.

Started in this hobby in 2020! 6 long years. I am well around 600 samples that I have tried.

Artisinal/ Haute like Henry Jacques, Krigler, Prin, Ensar Oud, Areej Le Dore, Bortnikoff —> niches like Zoologist, Frederic Malle, Roja, Memo Paris, Widian, to more mainstream like —> MFK, Byredo, Creed, to almost all high-end designers you can name.

I loved many of my artisinal samples, BUT: for me personally, it is more of a acquired taste meant for personal indulgence and awaken something deeper within, like a «spiritual transcendence». It is not something I would want to wear around people, especially not here in Scandinavia…

I have also tried sooo many niche brands, both very well known and lesser known indie brands. I liked several of them, but unfortunetaly not enough for FB.

I might add new bottles in the future or maybe not? BUT I am very much content with my collection. Just enjoying the moment.

Any questions? ask!

Cheers!

Are our colognes actually toxic?

• Upvotes

love collecting fragrances, and I wear stuff like Xerjoff, Parfums de Marly, and Creed every single day. But lately, I keep seeing videos saying that colognes are full of bad chemicals (phthalates and shit) that mess with your hormones.

Is this just fake internet panic, or is it actually true? Do expensive niche brands use the same toxic stuff as the cheap ones just to make the scent last longer?

I just want to know if spraying this on my skin every morning is actually dangerous. Do you guys worry about this? Are there certain ingredients I should be avoiding?

I have a 100ml Dior Homme intense from 2008. It’s only been sprayed a few times (less than 10) does anyone have any idea on the value of it? Trying to decide on keeping or letting it go to a collector. I do t have the box anymore

I bought a bottle of immortelle solaire on Rescented after buying the discovery set and falling in love with it. It smells a little different from my sample, but I didn’t think anything of it cuz I thought it was just different batches. Now I got a tester of vanille havane from olfactory factory and I’m realising that the cap of my immortelle solaire fits significantly looser than the vanille havane. Anyone know if it could be fake?

I see some ppl with shelves that have ambient lighting and what not. Seems cool af and very organized. I just started collecting a couple months ago. Started at the cheaper end for the most part. But i realize that i need a cabinet or shelf or something. im running out of room. Also theres quite a few of these that ive never even sprayed yet lol. Even starting the collection on the cheaper end i can see its going to be a very expensive addiction. But i dont drink or smoke or gamble so i guess this i a better vice than most lol

Anything that smells like this?

Looking for something that smells like one of these dish sanitizing machines. Anyone who works in a kitchen knows how heavenly these smell (unless I’m crazy). For anyone who hasn’t, it’s like an aquatic, clean smell, but not like a body wash soapy clean, like a clean towel sort of smell. I know this is really random and probably sounds insane, but I genuinely can’t get over how great these things smell every time I open it up.

Do you choose your perfume based on your personality or your mood?

Some days call for something fresh and clean. Other days, you might prefer something woody, spicy, warm or mysterious.

I'm curious: do you have one signature fragrance that feels like you, or do you switch fragrances depending on the occasion?

What fragrance family do you naturally gravitate towards, and why?

Disclosure: i enjoy learning how people choose and experience fragrances.

Im curious if any of yall have tried these fragrances.
The Absolu Aura is my favorite out of the bunch. Strong for a few hours and still hangs around for a couple more.
The other 3 I got from JomaShop on a whim, based on a reel I saw. They are not great in opinion and don’t last very long.
