Anyone else helping would be a liability. The guy on top had a good feeling when the shark was going to thrash (there's a reason blind wrestlers are some of the best) and could get his hands/legs/fingers/arms/bits out of the way in time. If someone else was "helping" here, they would likely have been caught entirely offguard when the shark decided to snap and thrash. You've seen the video of the guy on the boat that loses his finger to a shark just snapping shut in half a second? Yeah this is either a 1 person job, or no person job.

12

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26

No one bothered to even old the shark’s tail down so the kid can scoot forward more to lock the head between his thighs. They were all just filming or standing there watching a live show

12

u/AdonisBatheus Mar 27 '26

Why the hell would someone watch someone doing their job well, something they've never learned how to do or know anything about, and then try to help that person without any of the knowledge the guy clearly has

"Ohh these people in this hospital are all just gawking at the lady who fell down and waiting for the doctor because they don't know procedure woooow humanity is so cooked"

If that happened and someone got their finger bitten off yall would turn this into "woooow fuck around and find out lmao dont mess with nature if you dont understand it lmao"

u/Nickpapado Mar 27 '26

Reddit logic of people with big mouths who would have done absolutely nothing as well if they were in the situation. Especially the last part is perfectly accurate.

Everyone is a hero on their heads and other people are dumb and useless.

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Being able to act at that very moment vs being able to rationally understand the common logic that pinning something would mean it moves less, are two very different things. Wow I thought you’re smart but yet you can’t distinguish the two.

AdonisBatheus argument isn’t that people don’t know how to act at that very moment, instead, his argument is that one would need special knowledge to understand that restraining a creature = the creature moves less.

You can’t even get that simple distinction right. Fascinating

3

u/Nickpapado Mar 27 '26

I can just hear your fedora tip the way you "won this battle" on your head by insulting me.

0

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26

LOL this is very basic knowledge.

And reading what AdonisBatheus is saying properly doesn’t require much knowledge at all.

Incredible how you can’t comprehend it

This isn’t rocket science and no fedora tip needed

2

u/Nickpapado Mar 27 '26

Not even worth your fedora tip? That's the real insult

0

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26

Wait, I really wanna make sure something.

Do you know that holding the tail to restrain the shark would mean the shark moves less? It’s a very simple yes no question

The guy is certainly not knowledgeable in how to release a shark. He doesn't have the proper tools and the shark is out of the water which are two major indicators he has no clue what the fuck he is doing.

Worst case scenario you should have wire cutters and if you can't quickly and safely remove the hook you cut it as close as you can to the hook and it will rust and fall out within a couple of weeks.

The amount of ignorant keyboard warriors on here is insane

0

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

You’re speaking as if you don’t know basic physics and then use a totally unrelated analogy, you gotta try harder with me.

One extra person pinning the tail down would mean the shark can’t move as much. Him scooting further front while someone pins the tail would mean the shark can’t move even more. You don’t need to be a doctor to understand this. Use your head a little.

3

u/Lambs2Lions_ Mar 27 '26

Just want to say. That’s not common sense and would not occur to me without having it pointed out. It’s great you know but you assume too much regarding other people’s knowledge of marine life and how to handle what you consider basic encounters.

0

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26

Wait, just want to make sure, you don’t know that holding the tail down would mean the shark can’t move as much like I explained? You think you need to know about marine life to understand basic physics? Does this shark have another mouth at the butt that we non marine students not know about?

1

u/Lambs2Lions_ Mar 27 '26

Yup, did not know that. Most wouldn’t. Learned something new. Not all common knowledge is common. I’m sure there’s common things I know that you don’t. Stop being an ass.

1

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

lol I was being an ass when I said no one bothered to hold the tail down? This is funny. Because the reply above from AdonisBatheus was nothing about how it’s not common knowledge but all about how people wouldn’t know how to very basically hold something down to the point where it’s absurd I said what I said. You do know the thread that you’re in right?

He’s not arguing that people wouldn’t have thought of it; after I’ve said to hold the tail down which totally makes sense, he’s arguing that people shouldn’t help, because holding the tail down is too complex, on par with being a doctor. LOL

-1

u/drindrun Mar 27 '26

“common knowledge” when it’s looking at the situation with your eyeballs. restrain creature = creature move less. what on earth, somehow today it took reddit only 5 minutes to make me tired and exasperated

1

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26

Exactly, I’m surprised this even needs explanation.

If Lambs2Lions said they wouldn’t have thought of it at that moment then I can understand. But these people here are arguing with me that they need some extra knowledge to hold a tail down and didn’t know that doing so would mean the shark moves less.

I feel like even a bot would be smarter than these people

2

u/LookAtItGo123 Mar 27 '26

Buddy if you are not a doctor are you going to go help do a heart surgery because the hospital is busy? You dont have to help everything, especially if you know that you dont have the correct skill set for it and would risk making shit worse.

1

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26

Ah yet another one with the dumb analogy.

If the hospital is busy and someone spills water on the ground. I don’t need a phd to pick up a mop to wipe the floor. Just like how you don’t need to be a doctor to understand holding the tail down would mean the shark can’t move as much making the situation easier, basic physics my 5 year old understands. But here you are thinking you need to be qualified

Use your head a little.

1

u/LookAtItGo123 Mar 27 '26

I did not say that the hospital is busy with a spilt water on the ground. you could easily do that. I said the hospital is busy with a heart operation, you probably cant do that.

Also you said the shark cant move as much, this does not mean that it cant move at all! maybe you should have just been there to help.

1

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

It’s funny how you suddenly want to be pedantic and be extra particular with what one said. Sure. Let’s play your game.

I did not say that the hospital is busy with a spilt water on the ground. you could easily do that.

Neither did I say someone should try to also pull the hook out of the mouth. Weird how you left that out.

I said the hospital is busy with a heart operation, you probably cant do that.

I said someone can pin the tail down, anyone holding a camera can do that. Weird how you left this out.

Also you said the shark cant move as much, this does not mean that it cant move at all!

Exactly. Very smart. You caught that I said the shark can’t move as much and not that I said the shark can’t move at all. So intelligent.

The shark can’t move as much is better than the current situation shown in the video. Brain so dense you couldn’t come to that conclusion yourself.

maybe you should have just been there to help.

Maybe you should’ve think before commenting

1

u/LookAtItGo123 Mar 27 '26

I think you are really cool and great! so knowledgeable and actionable. please do fly to where ever there exists beaches and help! Your actions will make a big difference!

1

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26

Ah, pulling the typical ‘use sarcasm, dismiss the whole conversation, ignore valid points, and peace out before you make yourself look worse because your logic doesn’t work anymore’ card. It’s funny how predictable Redditor contrarian wannabes are

2

u/Bruglione Mar 27 '26

Yeah my thought exactly, it wouldn't even put them at risk

1

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26

Common sense ain’t common, considering the other replies I’m getting

1

u/Flowbeat Mar 27 '26

Who cares we don't need to judge every person we see online.

1

u/qgplxrsmj Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Oh suddenly it’s a “who cares”, when all I did was follow the thread and make a valid point. Amazing!

You guys certainly cared until someone made a point that made sense.

1

u/ImJustVeryCurious Mar 27 '26

I'm no expert but, I think someone else could at least pour some water on the shark? From what I've read, if the gills dry it can die in seconds.

0

u/SwePolygyny Mar 27 '26

Even if they just stuffed a rolled up towel in the mouth of the shark it could have helped and kept him safer.

45

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

One person helping while everyone else films is the most accurate summary of modern life

A random internet person fantasising how they'd heroically handle a shark is the most accurate summary of modern life.

13

u/AsinineArchon Mar 27 '26

For real. Everyone in this thread would be a bystander unless they actually were experienced fishermen and had a lot of practice removing hooks and handling big fish. It's nice to care about the welfare of the animal, but this is dangerous and it's normal to not stick your hand in the mouth of a live shark.

Keyboard warriors here

1

u/canehdian_guy Mar 27 '26

I'd probably splash some water on it or something at least though

10

u/Infrisios Mar 27 '26

I'll have to be fair: I wouldn't have been brave enough to deal with that shark.

3

u/Nickpapado Mar 27 '26

Neither is anyone here, they just think they would. So don't worry about it.

5

u/TimothyMimeslayer Mar 27 '26

Naw, I ain't touching that shark.

2

u/Top-Gun-Corncob Mar 27 '26

Reminds me of when I have give my dog drops in her ears.

8

u/winklevanderlinde Mar 27 '26

Acting like 300 years ago this wouldn't happen but instead of filming they would go on a tea party and talk it like new gossip

15

u/The_One_Returns Mar 27 '26

You risking your hands to save a damn fish? Lmao...

1

u/Xtremely_DeLux Mar 27 '26

Yeah. Some people actually feel compassion toward other life forms; not a thing you would understand.

1

u/The_One_Returns Mar 27 '26

Telling someone they don't feel compassion about all life forms because they wouldn't risk their hands to save a dangerous fish is the most stupid thing I read today so congrats on that.

13

u/BonzoTheBoss Mar 27 '26

So... Would you have stuck your hand in the sharks mouth...?

5

u/Spirited-Ad-9746 Mar 27 '26

you ever stopped to wonder why the shark has a fishing hook in their mouth in the first place?

6

u/IDontEatDill Mar 27 '26

Why is it that every time I see a video on the internet someone was always filming?!?!

6

u/smilingcube Mar 27 '26

How would there be a video if no one is filming?

1

u/IDontEatDill Mar 27 '26

Gosh darn it, that is a good point.

1

u/ConnectionPure8130 Mar 27 '26

Someone always needs to record it.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

hes literally the one that fished it and put it there in the first place

fuck him

0

u/Xtremely_DeLux Mar 27 '26

Were you there? No? Yeah, I didn't think you were. So why should anyone believe your version of the event?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

becuase its the one thats obviously true from the evidence in front of us

or do you think a "random guy" on the beach just happens to have braught tools for cutting fishing line, and just happens to know how to restrain a shark while you remove a hook from its mouth?

dont be an idiot, this guy is a PoS

2

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

LOLZ he is not "helping", he is doing "catch and release" hobby with that shark which is legal in Florida. In short, he put that hook the mouth. And NO, if someone is doing that, do not help them, you could lose finger or hand or life.

2

u/Ok-Needleworker7341 Mar 27 '26

He's not "helping". He caught the shark and now he's letting it go.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

He’s the one who caused it, there’s another take for you

0

u/Figorix Mar 27 '26

Source?

3

u/beldaran1224 Mar 27 '26

They said it was another take, not a fact. And its a plausible take, for sure. Someone hooked that shark and dragged it up onto the shore. The most likely scenario is that whoever hooked and dragged it up intended to release it, and oh look! There's a dude releasing it, lol. And a dude who definitely has some idea what he's doing, he's not some inexperienced dude.

1

u/You_Stole_My_Hot_Dog Mar 27 '26

He has a pair of pliers. Do you bring pliers to the beach with you?

1

u/Jyil Mar 27 '26

Maybe he wanted to be in the film

2

u/IDontEatDill Mar 27 '26

Plot twist: he's an insta-influencer and there was a professional filming crew. It was a trained shark.

1

u/LonelyRefuse9487 Mar 27 '26

"trained shark" is crazy lol. good luck teaching this thing to play fetch.

1

u/IDontEatDill Mar 27 '26

I think it might harder to train it not to play fetch.

1

u/Stunning_Mail_8934 Mar 27 '26

The bystander effect is far older than smartphones.

1

u/Almostlongenough2 Mar 27 '26

There's a lot of times the bystander effect can be infuriating, but honestly touching a shark is to me not one of them.

Like best case I'd leave the hook in and cut the line, then push it into the water with some kind of pole or stick.

1

u/anewerab Mar 27 '26

It would be even more accurate if some of the other people were trying to stop him.

1

u/PearsonBlues Mar 27 '26

Went to karaoke with a bunch of 20ish youngins recently and was so proud there wasn’t a phone recording in sight. There may be hope yet.

1

u/Repulsive-Drama-9855 Mar 27 '26

I mean I don’t think anyone else could help if they don’t know HOW to help. The recording is one thing but I would personally not risk it because I have not dealt with that sort of fish before. (trust me, you wouldn’t too) The shaming is just unnecessary in this case.

1

u/Partyeveryday8 Mar 27 '26

What does this have to do with ‘modern life’ lol.   Helping here could mean losing a finger.  That’s ‘life altering’.

1

u/iam814 Mar 27 '26

Yeah man why wouldn’t I risk an arm for a shark.

1

u/SuspiciousRough6197 Mar 27 '26

Bro He caught that shark so its his Job...

1

u/Xtremely_DeLux Mar 27 '26

So you say, but why should anyone believe you?

1

u/sumwatovnidiot Mar 27 '26

Some dude on Reddit acting like people enjoying their day on the beach should some how be responsible to wrestle a fucking shark is a more accurate summary of modern life

1

u/I-STATE-FACTS Mar 27 '26

do not go close to this if you don't know what you're doing.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

be so fucking for real

are you putting your hand in a sharks mouth when you see it on the beach

1

u/i3njqUL92M Mar 27 '26

Nah, people commenting on half a story acting like they are an expert is an accurate summary of modern life.

1

u/Exact_Recording4039 Mar 28 '26

What the fuck did you want everyone else to do. What would you do with a whole ass shark in this situation? Describe it in detail

1

u/eluser234453 Mar 28 '26

I'm not giving my hand to a shark though. if I'm not a professional I prefer to step back and watch.. better than coming back home with a missing hand.

1

u/Mean-Government1436 Mar 30 '26

One person causing a problem and then being filmed fixing it (poorly) is the most accurate summary of modern life

1

u/DrJuice7 Apr 20 '26

Son thought this was the toughest thing he said all day 💔✌️

0

u/StinkyWetSalamander Mar 27 '26

That's not even the depressing part, the person who saved the shark got nothing, the person who stood there filming got a viral video they could monetize.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

That's not even the depressing part, the person who saved the shark got nothing

So you think saving an aninal means you "got nothing"? Saving an animal has no value to you?

1

u/StinkyWetSalamander Mar 27 '26

The person who did nothing but sat there and filmed this got more financial reward than the person who did something, does that make more sense to you? Because that is what society is now and it is depressing.

People who care about nothing about followers and views profit but the people who do something worthwhile don't.

4

u/Adorable-Light-8130 Mar 27 '26

Saved the shark that he deliberately caught

0

u/Xtremely_DeLux Mar 27 '26

So you say. I've got no reason to believe you.

2

u/Adorable-Light-8130 Mar 27 '26

So you didn't hear the part where he asks "for a stronger set of pliers before I lose MY hook" If he hasn't caught that shark he would've said "the hook" Who's carrying around pliers on a beach? Ah that's right, fishermen.
