It’s almost funny seeing false titles and comments like this on these posts.

That’s almost 100% that kids catch, and he’s doing his due diligence as a fisherman to remove the hook and release the shark.

He’s definitely not a random dude, and this shark didn’t end up on that beach on its own.

Edit: I said almost 100%. If nothing else, he knows or is with who caught the shark. A stranger grabbing and unhooking your catch just doesn’t happen like this.

Another commenter who has more info supporting what my comment is saying.

You mean, you don’t normally carry your pliers and other tools to the beach?

103

u/onefst250r Mar 27 '26

Lots of people have tools in their vehicle. And the parking lot is probably right next to the beach.

Not saying that this isnt some staged video, but having a pair of pliers or multitool near the beach is not that abnormal.

26

u/Stormcrow_2 Mar 27 '26

The dude caught that shark. He’s not a hero lol

2

u/mycream47 Mar 27 '26

Catch and release is still the best type of fishing there is

7

u/BigLlamasHouse Mar 27 '26

Eating the fish is the best type of fishing there is. That way at least there's a reason. The downside is you don't get to pretend you're doing a good deed lol.

3

u/RedditOnAWim Mar 28 '26

You don’t get to choose what hooks the line. It’s not always what you’re after.

1

u/Whole_Series2416 Mar 27 '26

But with catch and release the population doesnt decline as much as much as eating them. Isn't that a better result?

1

u/Spirited-Ad-9746 Mar 27 '26

But why would i do it if not for eating the fish? Why wouldn't we do catch and release potato farming then?

3

u/OnePerformance9381 Mar 28 '26

For sport. Surely this is not hard for you to understand. The most exciting part of catching a fish is the actual catching of the fish.

This way you get the “thrill of the catch” without depleting resources from nature.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '26

Surely it’s not hard for you to understand that many people outside the fishing hobby think that’s unnecessary cruelty…?

1

u/BigLlamasHouse Mar 31 '26

I've never heard someone make the argument that sport fishing is more moral than fishing for food. I don't have a problem with either I just don't understand the "depleting resources from nature". You're gonna eat something eventually.

2

u/NxTbrolin Mar 31 '26

For the same reason you shoot guns at a shooting range instead of at people. Some people fish to eat. Some people catch and release. Some people hunt. Some people go to the range. It’s…really not that hard to comprehend.

1

u/Spirited-Ad-9746 Mar 31 '26

That analogy does not work very well since at the shooting range you shoot inanimous objects. We do not go to shooting range to shoot animals just a little bit and then let them go.

1

u/InsideFact8661 Mar 29 '26

Well let’s see YOU do that!

0

u/seazonedsaltdog Mar 27 '26

You think he's shark fishing at the beach?

4

u/BigLlamasHouse Mar 27 '26

I think it's not uncommon to hook a shark when you're surf fishing.

1

u/seazonedsaltdog Mar 27 '26

Its also not uncommon for a shark to beach itself

4

u/Basicallyacrow7 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

With a hook and line attached?

ETA: also shark fishing from the beach via a drone or kayak to swim the bait out isn’t uncommon in Florida.

2

u/BigLlamasHouse Mar 27 '26

That is very uncommon.

Where do you think the majority of shark attacks on people happen?

21

u/bearhos Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

You think its more likely that a live shark with a hook in it's mouth just happened to get washed up on the beach and that guy just happened to have 'tools in his vehicle?'

Or do you think this guy was fishing and this is just a fake title from a bot?

EDIT: The man with pliers says "my hook" 2 different times in the video. He caught the shark, fake title confirmed

14

u/onefst250r Mar 27 '26

Yeah, its quite possible the person was fishing. Or someone on the shore was fishing, likely for other species, and hooked the shark.

But, "tools in vehicle" is pretty common. Hell, there's a whole "everyday carry" (/r/edc) type of person that carries tools everywhere they go.

1

u/x_danix Mar 31 '26

Dedicated fishing pliers (at least from the looks of them) aren't typically part of a regular edc though.

1

u/Tarsonis_II Apr 01 '26

Can confirm, I have basically a full toolbox of hand tools in my truck plus a 3/8" impact as well as a jump starter, first aid kit (with trauma kit) and a vehicle recovery kit including tire plugs, shim and Jimmy and a tow strap.

Just in case.

And as a matter of fact it came in hand a few months back when someone drove into a retention pond and couldn't get their doors open (the car wasn't sinking, just stuck in mud) and were too freaked out to roll down their windows (or maybe the car shut off and had no power? Don't really know) but someone yelled for a hammer and who do you think had a 3lb sledge in the truck? This guy

0

u/Spirited-Ad-9746 Mar 27 '26

The fact that "on shore shark fishing" actually exists and is quite popular puts quite the doubt on your naive presumption that they were going after some other fish.

6

u/Whole_Series2416 Mar 27 '26

Do you not have tools in your vehicle? If not you should.

2

u/mmmacorns Mar 27 '26

I’m 38 year old mom and even I have tools in my car.

1

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Mar 28 '26

Doesn't change the fact he's doing catch and release, he caught the wrong kind of shark. It's traumatic enough for them they usually end up dying anyway.

Say what you want about fishing, but legally he cannot keep this shark, it's just a casualty now of his other fishing activities. It's unfortunate because normal fish usually survive catch and release, it's traumatic but not deadly. Sharks physiology handles being beached about as well as a whale

1

u/Legal-Row6448 Mar 28 '26

Look… if somebody gets a flat tire u know what they gon’ do right? Put the spare on ? Hell no. They gonna start crying then call girlfriend or dad or he might be actually calling his boyfriend to cry about his situation… what good are tools if using them requires breaking a nail

1

u/InsideFact8661 Mar 29 '26

They don’t need to carry tools…they ARE the tools!!😂

0

u/bearhos Mar 27 '26

I do. I also love to fish.

But I wouldn't be referring to "my hook" if I hadn't caught the fish myself. Plier man says "my hook" twice in the video, he caught it.

1

u/Benjamminmiller Mar 27 '26

and that guy just happened to have 'tools in his vehicle?'

He asks someone else "do you have a stronger set of pliers", heavily implying someone else had the original pliers and gave them to him.

1

u/Generic-Cheese Mar 28 '26

It probably wouldn’t get as many likes if OP was truthful lol. “Dude catches shark, takes hook out and sets it free again”

1

u/Spare-Security-1629 Mar 28 '26

To be fair, he still took responsibility. I work in Animal Services and have to rescue many animals with fish hooks in their beaks/mouth/etc.

2

u/mal_guinness Mar 27 '26

Definitely someone shark fishing, as someone who's done it once you can't catch a shark without being prepared to take a hook out of a shark's mouth. My friend pulled the hook out while I grabbed the tail and then pulled it into the water. You should really be wearing kevlar gloves for this.

3

u/OnlyInAmerica01 Mar 27 '26

Remember the age-group that makes up the majority of reddit. Pretty sure "DIY" is considered "capitalist propaganda" or some such.

2

u/onefst250r Mar 27 '26

Sure. But, see also, r/edc.

2

u/jltime Mar 27 '26

No one said it was staged, just that the dude isn’t random

1

u/AWWAWater Mar 27 '26

I would agree . I typically have some sort of small multitool with me no matter where I go. Beach , pool, work, playground with kids . That shit comes in handy the moment you don’t have it .

1

u/potatecat Mar 30 '26

Where I am from, there is no parking anywhere close to any beaches.

2

u/realcanadianguy21 Mar 27 '26

I thought I watched someone else throw a multitool from the sidelines

2

u/financekid Mar 27 '26

People carry leathermans for edc. You can get Chinese leatherman knockoffs for $25. You can fit pliers on a keychain.

So yes having pliers at the beach isn't crazy.

2

u/Stormcrow_2 Mar 27 '26

Y’all are totally missing the point lol

0

u/financekid Mar 27 '26

A.) he didn't have the pliers someone else did

B.) having pliers doesn't mean you are a fisherman

C.) he could have been a fisherman but nothing in the video indicates one way or the other

1

u/Own-Raisin5849 Mar 27 '26

I carry my Leatherman and and EDC knife every single day, a lot of people carry multi-tools around, at least in my peer group.

1

u/Myself-io Mar 27 '26

I always carry pilers and other tools on the beach...🤣

1

u/Spincrit Mar 28 '26

Cars on the beach are pretty common in some areas. Having pliers in one is even more common

36

u/WalnutSnail Mar 27 '26

He even says "or I'll lose my hook".

19

u/Btherock78 Mar 27 '26

I heard it as "before I lose my hand"

6

u/roastpoast Mar 27 '26

He said "I'll lose my hand befOR I lose my hook"

1

u/Selfcare2025 Mar 27 '26

I heard that too

22

u/waffels Mar 27 '26

"It’s almost funny seeing false titles and comments like this on these posts."

"Anyway, here is my own version of what is happening in the video that you should believe despite also having no proof or context to base it off"

5

u/havens1515 Mar 29 '26

The guy literally says "You got a stronger set of pliers? Before i lose my hook."

3

u/Basicallyacrow7 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Yeah no proof for mine either that’s fair.

However I’d bet money on that dude is at minimum with the fisherman. Aka not a random stander by waiting to save the shark that got reeled in.

My context is years of coastal fishing and I’ve never seen a fishermen allow or need a “random hero” to unhook their catch.

Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/interesting/s/aGSvNaqAFg

Comment that has real context to support my theory.

3

u/allozzieadventures Mar 27 '26

100% agree, I think these people in the comments have never fished and/or been outside before

0

u/allozzieadventures Mar 27 '26

No proof but a whole lot more plausible than the title

4

u/Roxerz Mar 27 '26

read it as false titties.

5

u/Joe4D2 Mar 27 '26

Yes someone is shark fishing and if it’s not him they’d be pissed if the kid did this

2

u/Evening-Ordinary-513 Mar 27 '26

Agree but you’d hope he’d know to put the pliers deeper and nearer the tip of the hook. He stayed up where he was trying with his hand. But hey, he got it

2

u/Tamajyn Mar 28 '26

It's like the story about the pack of dogs that escaped the meat shop in china recently coming out as being completely fabricated, they were just some rando dogs in china they filmed and decided to make up a story around it, but reddit loves a good narrative

2

u/MyPunsAreKoalaTea Mar 29 '26

Why not just keep it?

His goal was to catch a fish and probably eat it. Judging from the hook he was fishing for this size

So why not kill it?

6

u/TALKTOME0701 Mar 27 '26

I thought he asked someone if they had a stronger set of pliers. That would seem to mean he didn't come there with tools. He didn't have any gear.

I'm happy to believe he saw the fish there while everybody filmed it and decided to do a good thing

3

u/Dangerous-Feeling-49 Mar 27 '26

Nah, just means he wants to know if anyone has stronger pliers than the ones he's using

3

u/TroGinMan Mar 27 '26

I mean isn't that what you're doing?

2

u/Basicallyacrow7 Mar 27 '26

Sort of. Critically thinking though, whoever caught that shark isn’t going to let someone snatch his shark like that. So at minimum he is with whoever caught it, and isn’t some random hero.

Source: I fish on the coast, and have been around fishing my whole life. Random people unhooking your fish (or shark) just doesn’t happen.

1

u/TroGinMan Mar 27 '26

Like I get it where you're coming from, but you're still making many assumptions like the title.

The shark could have washed up on shore, it happens, and already had the hook in (if it's a popular fishing spot, then it's not a crazy thought). Someone else could have caught the shark but couldn't or was too scared to remove the hook so the rando jumped in. It could have been his catch and the title is completely wrong. Any one of those is likely.

I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, I'm just pointing out that your critical thinking isn't much different than the title.

2

u/Basicallyacrow7 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

I’m more talking about possibilities.

A shark washing up with a perfect hookset with fishermen behind it? Highly unlikely

A random person jumping in to unhook someone else’s catch? High unlikely.

Unless someone has the actual context behind the video it’s all guesses. The main difference is I’m owning up mine are educated guesses having been around this, whereas, it’s frustrating to see (most likely) made up titles on a group from people looking for free karma.

Regardless, no matter what it’s titled unless OP has the context, my point of using a fake story for karma stands.

Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/interesting/s/aGSvNaqAFg

Comment with context and evidence of what I’m saying.

1

u/trichocereusnitrogen Mar 27 '26

I wonder though - that is a HUGE fishing hook - looks like something you'd use out in the open ocean for tuna fish or whatever. I'm not sure what somebody would be trying to catch from shore with a hook like that. Right off of sandy beach like that there would be no large fish to catch - unless this guy was actually fishing for shark on purpose, just for the sport of it..

I may be wrong here, I do not fish with a pole, but I've certainly been around a lot of it

1

u/darkrockprotodiezel Mar 27 '26

"A stranger grabbing and unhooking your catch just doesn't happen like this."

Have you never gone fishing before?

2

u/Basicallyacrow7 Mar 27 '26

My whole life, mainly on the coast in Florida. even if he was a stander by, (which further evidence provided by someone else shows he in fact wasn’t) if he was, there was a conversation had.

Going up to and taking it upon yourself to unhook someone else’s catch without asking/communicating is not generally well received.

2

u/darkrockprotodiezel Mar 28 '26

At least to me, someone can still be considered a rando even if you did talk to them cause it's someone you don't know yet, but let's not mince words. I see what you meant now. My b

1

u/Basicallyacrow7 Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

but let's not mince words. I see what you meant now. My b

You’re totally fine. I’ll die on the hill 90% of internet arguments are from splitting hairs/mincing words.

ETA: at the end of the day even what I’m doing with the title lol

1

u/ElJefefiftysix Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Worried he took that long on getting the hook out.

Most shark fishermen would have cut the line or pushed the hook thru to cut the barb off to make removal so much easier.

Saltwater rusts out hooks in short order, get the shark back in the water.

Unlikely that shark is going to live from that handling.

1

u/SadisticPawz Mar 28 '26

unrelated to the comment youre replying to

1

u/ChocolatePuerh Mar 28 '26

I'd help a stranded animal like this, as would plenty of other good samaritans.

1

u/my_cars_on_fire Mar 28 '26

I’ve never heard a dentist say this, but it makes sense 🤔

1

u/Signal_Helicopter_36 Mar 27 '26

It's less of a lie than I expect to hear from the White House today.

2

u/RingtailVT Mar 27 '26

"The shark left the water because he wanted to be on our soil, it's American soil, and let me tell you it's the best soil. It's so good. Other countries they don't have soil as good as ours, that's why they're losers, that's why their sharks stay in the waters and ours don't."

1

u/Signal_Helicopter_36 Mar 27 '26

This is what our reality has dumped into....spot on.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

He may have been passing by and a kid maybe caught the shark while fishing for other stuff and didn’t know how to handle it, so he stepped in. When I was about 12, I was fishing on a boat with family friends and I hooked a nurse shark. My pole was set up for catching red snapper, and I honestly thought I had just hooked a piece of heavy trash on the ocean floor. Slowly I reeled it in, there was no big fight, just heavy heavy weight. Carefully I reels it in and when it was close enough I saw the 6’ shark and as a kid I was like “wtf now?!” I could deal with a red snapper myself, but a 6 foot shark? lol I was lost in the sauce, my dude. I had to get an adult to handle that situation, which they did by pulling the shark alongside the boat, reaching down with some looooong hair pliars to remove the hook, and right as they did that the shark thrashed, snapped the line, and sadly the hook didn’t get removed before it swam off. So that’s another plausible scenario, he’s helping someone else who got in over their head, but I would say almost certainly this man is a fisherman, as evident by his comfort handling the fish and removing the hook.

1

u/itsmassivebtw Mar 27 '26

I can't believe I have to say this but: no shit. Nobody watching this thought the shark randomly beached itself with a hook in it's mouth.

4

u/Basicallyacrow7 Mar 27 '26

Read the replies to my comment lmfao. I thought the same until I’m being told that’s totally plausible here

2

u/oO0Kat0Oo Mar 27 '26

Some people are dumber than you think.

0

u/Front_Eye_3683 Mar 27 '26

Good to know, but I don’t see any false titties.
