I was literally coming here to say this. I distinctly remember as a child, watching a nature documentary where a baby giraffe became so infested with ticks, it could not grow and eventually succumbed to the infestation and died a slow and horrible death while it’s mother guarded it, helplessly. Ain’t no way a “loving god” designed that. I will never understand believers, especially the Abrahamic religions make no sense to me under even mild scrutiny.
I had to stop watching nature shows as a child. I would get so worked up because nature is truly metal. Seeing animals being eaten while still alive really did it for me.
Their argument sorta hinges on the idea that animals are not sentient. That they can't make choices or take morality into account by any degree. They are simply put here to exist for whatever reason.
Honestly, Abraham religions are really just shit poor takes on Buddhism with an added bad guy character and deep seeded bigotry complex. 💀 As if a being of all know omnipotence gives a single fuck if you love a dude or a woman. dumb asf.
I think about myself as atheist but I like one of the directions of gnosticism where our god is the lowest and imperfect in pantheon of perfect beings.
Weird, this is only ever taken into consideration with Christianity, but no other religions.
For instance the muslim religion is way worse for western culture, and extremely unaccepting.
However whenever muslims come over here and don't wear hijabs, they don't believe in all the hate, we accept them.
But Christianity? Because the words are there and 5% of the Christian population acts out because of it, the 100% of the population needs blame? Seems insane to me.
Missing the point on purpose? Animals suffer all the time in order to prove a point about faith.
We could start with all the animals (God's creation) Abel kills to please God. God is so satisfied with all those slaughtered animals that he favours him over Cain's pitiful sacrifice of vegetables (also God's creation).
Jesus exorcises demons out of a suffering man. Does he banish these demons? Nope, he transfers them into innocent pigs instead, driving the pigs away to drown. Drowned animals seem to be ok with God.
Don't get me wrong. A lot of atheists cause animal suffering too. It seems to be a very human immorality. But justifying it through religion is a special take for sure.
This has nothing to do with biblical literalists. All Abrahamic religious followers believe God is all powerful AND all loving. My argument is that this is false. He is either all powerful but does not care about suffering or all loving but powerless to intervene (or more likely and rationally, doesn’t exist at all). God cannot be all loving and all powerful if he creates parasites that cause suffering. Not surprised you didn’t get my point though. Religious people love to pretend to be obtuse in order to avoid confronting anything that would challenge their (false) core beliefs. You have to ignore obvious contradictions in order to keep believing, contradictions that are even obvious to some children (like me as a child).
The problem here is PEOPLE… People believing that Good or Bad is somehow not part of life. Life and Death are natural parts of life. The problem is PEOPLE thinking you should die a peaceful death cuz that’s morally right.
I get the empathy, we are empathetic beings for the most part. But for Animals or life in general is just Life and Death.
The GOD entity technically made everything the way they are. Good or bad are terms we as humans use but technically everything is good and everything can be bad. For YOU might be good but for someone else might be bad.
Parasites do what parasites do. WE are not parasites but we can do worst things.
If we judge life this way then I think we are just putting the GOD entity at a lower level, at our level.
Again religious people jumping through hoops to justify their “all powerful god” allowing suffering for some reason yet still getting the label of being “all good”. Makes no damn sense to anyone who isn’t brainwashed.
If you think about it its true. Its us who determine what is bad. We are the one putting on a labels to those things. You think animals care about what you think is good or bad? Life does not care cuz life and death are part of nature.
But because we have a very troubled mind since we are self aware of the things that happen to us, we end up with a lot of psychological trauma. Our need to KNOW and our need to understand things will not allow us to just accept things the way they are cuz we are complex beings and even thou SOME are able to accept these things and not lose some sleep over it.... Many other will see them as sociopaths with no remorse. When in reality they just have better control of their emotions.
You can not expect billions of people with brains that are developed into this self awareness of our existence to all behave equally. So Religion tends to help these people to find a north where they can set their minds to.
If population grows continuously, multiple will have to starve to death. I mean, that sounds more awful to me. And at least the ticks are able to have a life as well. I think they deserve a life as well at least.
There’s a ton of predators that also live there that could make shorter work of the baby giraffe rather than dying slowly from ticks. Perhaps you lack the ability to empathize with animals or you just want to defend an imaginary god whom you believe invented them, either way, I don’t respect your opinion.
