MISC. A grandma broke her nose while hiking, didn't want the helivac, and ended up spinning out of control. She won a $450,000 lawsuit.

Why even have 1 rope going down and not 2? That would have prevented this problem, no?

According to the article in the first comment, there was a second rope, but it broke.

When you get heli-lifted lile that, generally the helicopter was unable to land. It hovered low, and they hooked her up to the underside.

Just want to be clear she went hiking in the summer when it was well above 100 degrees. She put everyones life in danger that day to rescue her then won a lawsuit. When being stupid pays off. Im local

She wasn’t being evacuated because of heat exhaustion.

She still did it though putting everyone elses life in danger. You know how dangerous it is hike in 110f. How selfish it was to put everyone in that situation Thats why there was a helicopter to begin with. Stories leave out the real details for clicks.

The whole thing happened in the morning when it under 80°F.

They advise that you hike between 5am and 8am. They were on their way back out at 7:15am when she fell and broke her nose and hurt her leg. She specifically asked not to be airlifted because it was unnecessary. They said she'd aggravate her leg injury and requested the helicopter.
