I went to Montessori school and in 1980 at age 3/4, I was making pancakes and English muffin pizzas by myself, in class. I was also, sewing as a hobby, always making doll clothes and silly accessories for myself.

I feel like these skills haven’t been taught at that age for QUITE some time, now.

I feel like people started assuming children are stupid and incapable of being independent and learning skills. They do everything for them. I taught Outdoor education and it drove me up a wall every time a teacher or parent tried to explain to the kids what to do. We had specific activities meant to encourage team work and critical thinking, without help. The amount of times I had to shhh them, and tell them this is now my classroom.
