Okay, so it sounds like there’s levels to this. Yours is life threatening. Someone else here says it’s not. Maybe everyone with celiac has different needs?

My understanding is the damage already done to the organs. I can smell strong bread and get sick. If i eat any my body tries to seriously kill me in an attempt to get it out. I've been hospitalized by accidental exposure before.

The damage is done before the diagnosis occurs, yes, but the damage usually heals after a strict GFD is implemented. Have your doctors determined why yours isn't?

I wish people who don’t know what they’re taking about to just stop.

You’re spending more time guessing wrong than listening.

Of course celiacs can have damage after being diagnosed and after getting cross contamination. It’s a new event….

"Guessing wrong"? I have Celiac Disease. I know what I'm talking about.

The damage you have pre-diagnosis should be the worst damage you'll ever have from it, because it's the cumulative damage caused by years of oblivious gluten consumption. And that damage should progressively heal once you start eating gluten free.

That's not a "guess". That's how it works.

If that initial damage doesn't heal, then you're either failing at the diet or have Refractory Celiac Disease, which is an entirely different beast. And those with Refractory Celiac Disease generally know to differentiate between what they have and "regular" Celiac Disease, because they know the two are very different in level of severity and approaches to treatment.

And obviously any new damage done to the intestines after diagnosis is exactly that - NEW damage. But I never said anything about new damage. The person I was replying to said the "damage is already done" to the intestines. I was saying that yes, it's done, but it should also heal - and if they have Celiac Disease and are on a strict GFD, and their intestines haven't healed... they need to ask their doctor why, because that's a serious issue.

You really need to read what you wrote again. It implied that they can’t experience any further damage, or, the damage is “better”

And you our celiac isn’t everyone’s. I suffer for 6 weeks after exposure and my small intestine gets damaged. I don’t know if that’s better or worse damage and it’s not for us to decide that. My damage could be equal at this stage. You don’t know otherwise.

So, yes. You may understand it. But you’re also making assumptions.
