MISC. After Steve Jobs learned about Windows (which used a mouse & a GUI), he accused Bill Gates of stealing Apple's idea. Gates replied "Well Steve...I think it's more like we both had this rich neighbor named Xerox & I broke into his house to steal the TV set & found out that you had already stolen it."

So, his own arrogance effectively killed him.

Killed by his own hubris.

Turns out that an Apple a day did keep the doctor away.

Hoisted by his own petard.

Shouldn’t have worn that petard if you didn’t want to be hoisted by it.

I’m not saying this to correct you—you’re doing a bit and it’s delightful!

I just want to make sure other readers know that a petard is a small bomb, not a piece of clothing. “Hoist with his own petard” is, literally, “He got tossed in the air by his own bomb”and essentially the same “he stepped on his own landmine” (except probably less messy because of the lower effectiveness of renaissance incendiary devices). Colloquially it’s an expression that means “to be taken down by one’s own previous actions.”

You're good. I did the same research before I made my first comment but I couldn't resist making the pun.

This is one of those fun facts that just lives in my brain, no research required. I read a lottttttttt of optional Shakespeare during my high school years 😆

Yes, but *he* did it. I bet you couldn’t.

Or wouldn’t, whatever.

Probably killed someone else too since he bought his way onto the liver transplant list even though he was too far gone for any real chance at success at that point.
