MISC. Michael Jackson was performing in Seoul in 1996 when a fan climbed up a crane to reach him. MJ held onto the fan securely to prevent him from falling, all while continuing his performance

The microphone gets pulled away from his mouth and the volume of his singing does not change. Michael was known for lip syncing at concerts. Take for example his Super Bowl halftime show. I don't think he was singing this live. That's not to say he wasn't insanely talented at singing. I think he just wanted to focus on the spectacle of the performance at times.

The superbowl doesnt allow anyone to perform live. Artists are required to lip sync because the superbowl doesnt want possible sound delays to get in the way of the football game.

Lady gaga sang live, you can tell because she’s nearly running out of breath during the piano part and she’s offbeat slightly during bad romance, granted the part on the roof was entirely pre recorded and she just descended from somewhere half way up the stadium

Imho, her halftime performance was one of the best.

That entire show was perfect. Really shows who we are as a country and I dont see how people couldnt find that anything less than beautiful

My parents are conservative and we watched that Super Bowl together. They both said that Lady Gaga’s performance was very good. I was surprised.

It truly was everything a half time show should be.

I imagine they can't let anyone spout anti-nfl aligned political statements either on that stage.

I didnt even consider an artist going rogue like when JT pulled down Janet Jackson's top.

That wasn’t him going rogue either, it was a preplanned set piece. It just went wrong - it was supposed to reveal her bra underneath.

It’s not true. They don’t make artists lip sync

At the Super Bowl vocal mics are typically live, but none of the instruments are. It's just not feasible in the short amount of time they have to mix everything live.

They have a mix of backing tracks and live - Alicia Keys had a little slip up live in 2024. Also the Weeknd just sounded bad enough it couldn't have been prerecorded

That god-awful performance by the Black Eyed Peas in 2011 was not prerecorded. I hope.

I can't speak for many SB shows but Tom Petty was clearly singing live

100%. tom petty was pretty clear he would not lip sync at a live event.

2

Yes but Tom Petty was the GOAT

Not true. The drums and vocals are often live, it’s just the stringed instruments that are pantomimed

Whitney lip-synced her infamous Super Bowl national anthem

This isn't 100% true. Kendrick Lamar had a pretty big mess-up during his performance of DNA during his halftime performance.

u/mr-scotch 2d ago

That is not true at all. They don’t allow live performances of instruments but the vocals are legit live.

Ricky Martin def snag live at the last Superbowl

*most* lipsyncers should be tried for fraud

The rules of the superbowl require all artists to pre record their performances. Both singers and musicians playing instruments. Frankly it’s quite impressive that musicians can match the instrumentals exactly.

He definitely wasn't singing live. Still kudos for being able to keep the performance going

MJ pretty much lip synced the entire show for this tour.

Shut it

Wouldn't say he was known for it given it was only his last tour where there wasn't a lot live
