Putting everything else aside how did he get up there so quickly. It looks like MJ had been rising for quite some time before he pounced.

Its a crane, not an elevator. Look at the video right before the fan shows up, you can see the path up to MJ's platform is still pretty flat only a couple seconds before the fan arrives.
